Hi Brennan. I connected Elgato to my ATT receiver to record a Program with English subtitles. However, the captured movie has ends clipped off, missing the beginning of the subs. regardless of the capture being made in 16:9 or 4:3. However, when I record the same program in the Hard Drive of my Panasonic VCR/DVR recorder, the movie is perfect and when I connect the Elgato to the Panasonic the capture from the HD is also perfect. Connection is via SVideo cable. Is this a defect of my Elgato?

Hi! I just bought this product today. I was able to set it up and record some video but after 4 minutes it automatically stopped recording. I wanted to record up to an hour. Any idea why it would stop like that? (I am recording from old family video tapes).

I recorded a couple of videos from my TV and tried to edit them on iMovie, but since the file is an MP4, there was no video but only audio. I tried to find some other ways and tried to convert them as a different file, but I had no success. Do you know anything that's free and will work?

Hi Brennan....I am thinking of buying this device to transfer dozens of 20-25 year old SVHS tapes to digital for editing in iMovie, burning DVDs and taping back onto MiniDV cassettes and/or HD storage. Reading reviews on Amazon and such, many folks have problems with the transferred video quality (dropped frames or just not as clear) plus some say the audio is out of sync with the video. Have you had any of those problems? Ever transferred SVHS tapes? Thanks!

Yes you can put it on a DVD. Make sure you are using a DVD and not a CD. Also use the iDVD application that comes preinstalled on your mac. Use this application to create a DVD. It puts the video in the right format to play on any DVD player.

I bought from apple, they charged 99 but saw on amazon for 79 apple claims they will help me if i have problems & can return where as amazon wont help and will charge to return if they even take back t all one opened so i figured for the support i will stick with apple but i have a question for you if i convert my vhs and put on a disc with my mac can the disc be played on my dvd player and on a pc computer i ask only because whenever i make a dvd on my mac it doesnt play on my tv dvd player

If your TV has the YELLOW, RED, & WHITE LINE OUT jacks you should be fine. It should say either line in or line out by these jacks. 

Make sure they say line out, not line in.
