I love every version of the song, from the unreleased alternate version with Clapton to the performances on his first tour with just piano and banjo but this version really kicks. Shame it didn't last the tour as it's a real highlight from the set :)
He's brilliant... and @ evoxtcy it was released as a studio version on his Face Value album... track 5 or 6 I think, and it has a real mournful bluegrass slide sound in the background. Very moving version the album one!
This could have been from the Wiltern. We played for a week at the Forum in LA and then did an unannounced show at the Wiltern after finishing the Forum gigs. When you bought your ticket you had to go in and could not sell your ticket. One of the best shows we ever played. I MISS PHIL...........leland sklar
It's a very good piece of music and I like this version way more then original. But one day I was walking down the street and listening to this song and I thought could it be Eric Clapton playing solo guitar in this song ? It sure sounds like him and I now they have performed together a lot. I would be happy if anyone could answer my question :) .
Thanks for uploading. I've looked all over for this song. I got to see him perform this song in Chapel Hill, NC at the Dean Smith Center. It was one of the greatest shows I ever got to see. I felt lucky to see him perform this then and I feel lucky now that someone has uploaded. it. As far as I know it was never been recorded for retail sale.
@evoxtcy This version comes from a special edition of the 'Do You Remember - live' CD single that came in a very nice carousel-shaped box. It is very rare, though, and I can imagine why you might never have seen it around. That CD single also featured the semi-acoustic live version for 'Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore' that was performed on the second half of that same tour.
i've been a 18 year old phil collins fan but this is fucking amazing this was before my time but its awesome i only know the album version but this is no better words than amazing
I would like to ask poster (if he's still around) how he knows this is from "The Wiltern Theatre" in Los Angeles - is this confirmed, or just based on the comment by a user here previously?
I can confirm what others also said: The source of this is an official single, Do You Remember Live (limited edition carousel cover) that has this as a B-side. I have the single, and it doesn't list the origin of the recording, hence my question. Song was only performed in September gigs of the 1990 tour.
Thank you for putting this up. I too have been looking for this version for about 19 years. I saw him perform this version on tour at Chapel Hill, NC in 1991.
I, too, like others here have been searching for this version since I first heard it in concert so many years ago. Thank you so much. I just LOVE this version. He should put it on an album - I'd buy it just for this version of the song!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I heard this version during the 'Serious' tour when I saw him in NYC a hundred years ago!! The song didn't make the dvd release of the concert, and I was so worried that I may never hear this rivoting version again. Just amazing! Thank you for confirming that I didn't dream the whole thing! You have no idea how happy I am right now!
Awesome. Thanks for posting. I couldn't remember the darn title of this song. I herd it on the radio today and I was like OMG that is brilliant. I knew it was Collins just couldn't remember the title, but thank you.
their used to be on youtube a really rockin version of doesn't anybody stay together anymore from the serious tour perfored in tokyo. it was more like the album version but with way better instrumentals. disappeared a few days later from youtube. please don't remove this. these are great rareties that should always stay for everyone to enjoy.
dont know who posted it but it rocked. the guitars where heavier, the keaboards where heavier, phil was on piano as well. brad cole played light organs along with the heavey keyboards. it sounded like it was a b-side from a single released during the serious tour. it was an mp3 with just photos of phil. the ending rocked with first the music dieing down and just phil singing, then the music takes over and phil hits the piano hard as he song closes with a bang. i luv da soft version but dis rockd
good luck in deed. when i found it it was located under " phil collins rare" know all i find on youtube is the version from the seriously live dvd. (i dont sleep much. when the kids are asleep at night i usually look up my faave artists and hope the light from my netbook does not wake them. it's funny when i first found that rockin kiss ass vrsion of doesnt anybody stay together anymore live in tokyo, i pressed play and didnt know my vulume was up high. luckly da kid sleeps like a rock on drugs
you found that kick ars version of doesn't anybody stay together anymore live in tokyo? no way! please dont be kidding. thats so cool. ours is a phil collins, pink floyd, and other good music house. even the kids love my music.
I have a copy of that version of doesn't anybody stay together anymore. but it is from a concert in Sydney, Australia, let me know if you want me to post
a feeling that i was being watched, which turned out to be true.
i wish i could tell you or someone about what i'm going though, but i can't. i'm being tested and i don't know why? i'm untalented and i don't know what they want with me. i'm not mental. pls belivev me.
Thank you, thank you! I have been searching for this since I heard it at a show in Nashville in the early nineties. It was performed very little during that tour. Where did this come from? What a great gift for this Thanksgiving weekend! Truly outstanding! Very happy. Can't wait to play it for the "non-believers" that this rock version existed.
Not sure why this was never officially released or I just missed it somehow on a b-side or something. Thanks so much for posting this.
you're very welcome, I'm glad you like it. I don't remember how I got it, unfortunately... I think it's from some Serious Tour Bonus DVD, not sure. enjoy!
Whoa Man! A kick a** version! Just goes to show that even after achieving pop idol status PC could still knock it out of himself every once and awhile. I guess Daryl alternated between guitar and banjo on this version.
This live version is pretty rare, and is the only track not available on the "Serious Tour - live in Berlin" video/DVD which was officially released.
It was released as a B-side for the "Do You Remember [live]" single, but only on the collectors edition single that was housed in a carrousel shaped cardbox.
Sadly, other great songs performed early on this tour like All Of My Life and Find A Way To My Heart were not released officially, and only exist on bootleg soundboard recordings.
oh it was hard to find it, don't remember where I did.... I had it a long time but never had time and will to do something like this, my video... enjoy the song =)

I like the cow moos sound in the live version. Helps solidify the imagery of the hardships of a rural farm life.
