Extraordinary shot of the piano solo. Very unusual to get this viewpoint of Jerry's piano playing, i.e. to see both hands clearly. Talk about getting around the piano with an audacious completeness. You don't usually get to really see his left hand moves too often.
I believe Jerry's playing would have even put a smile on Chopin's face, if not for musical content, at least for the joy of playing the instrument with such passion, freedom and confidence!

I read "Hellfire" on my holiday in Croatia, a bit chilly end of the season and having a cold - reading about Jerry Lee was my best comfort! Back home, I had to check the old songs - he's brilliant!
I first met Jerry Lee Lewis when I interviewed him at KVEG Radio in Las Vegas in 1963. He was appearing at the Thunderbird Hotel (which later became the Silverbird). He was a nice man then and also a nice person when I talked with him at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood in the 1989s and 1990s. He seems wild and crazy on the stage but he is a quiet conversationalist. He definitely inspired my piano playing.
I had the pleasure to see Jerry Lee in Houston, Texas a couple of years ago and I have to say man the man can burn the panio up. He has not lost his touch at all. Today's music they can't do justic to what was back then.
If Jerry and Elvis were in a talent show like americas got talent. I think it would be a draw. Based on talent alone, what one lacked the other made up for in some other way! they were both electrifiing entertainers, Elvis voice being his gratest ally. Jerry with a unique piano style, and a great voice as well. If this were 1956 and these two were to perform back to back(and I'm sure they did) I would call it a draw and just thank my lucky stars for being there to see it!!!
Listen to all the unreleased outtakes from Sun that Jerry did while Sam Phillips perked up his ears. Jerry is a brilliant pianist and his playing is unique. He probably never plays it the same way twice...it's always a creative process depending on how he feels at the time. He can play the same song a dozen different ways. His voice? Well ..it has a soulful quality and intensity to it. People who only know him from Great Balls of Fire and his other hits on Sun have barely touched the surface.

Extraordinary shot of the piano solo. Very unusual to get this viewpoint of Jerry's piano playing, i.e. to see both hands clearly. Talk about getting around the piano with an audacious completeness. You don't usually get to really see his left hand moves too often.
I believe Jerry's playing would have even put a smile on Chopin's face, if not for musical content, at least for the joy of playing the instrument with such passion, freedom and confidence!

I first met Jerry Lee Lewis when I interviewed him at KVEG Radio in Las Vegas in 1963. He was appearing at the Thunderbird Hotel (which later became the Silverbird). He was a nice man then and also a nice person when I talked with him at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood in the 1989s and 1990s. He seems wild and crazy on the stage but he is a quiet conversationalist. He definitely inspired my piano playing.

If Jerry and Elvis were in a talent show like americas got talent. I think it would be a draw. Based on talent alone, what one lacked the other made up for in some other way! they were both electrifiing entertainers, Elvis voice being his gratest ally. Jerry with a unique piano style, and a great voice as well. If this were 1956 and these two were to perform back to back(and I'm sure they did) I would call it a draw and just thank my lucky stars for being there to see it!!!

Listen to all the unreleased outtakes from Sun that Jerry did while Sam Phillips perked up his ears. Jerry is a brilliant pianist and his playing is unique. He probably never plays it the same way twice...it's always a creative process depending on how he feels at the time. He can play the same song a dozen different ways. His voice? Well ..it has a soulful quality and intensity to it. People who only know him from Great Balls of Fire and his other hits on Sun have barely touched the surface.
