  • Am I the only one to get a 3 secs no-sound vid out of this?

  • Must be a problem with your Flash player or browser...

  • No, I got the same problem.

  • Wow, I have the same problem too! YouTube f$#@ed up the video... I will upload it again...

  • what's the difference between model of the mammoth on this vid and this model - youtube . com / watch?v=sQdTsNwKtkc ?

  • The one in the other video is a bit newer. I haven't heard of any differences in sound, though.

  • Very cool pedal and a awesome demo!

Good work! Thank you for the video.

  • I think this pedal sounds totaly amazing, i agree with the comment below though, far better on the bass hehe

  • Sounds wayyy better on bass

  • ?? I don´t sell anything... I just build my own pedals - for fun and because it´s cheaper.

  • MisterKuss you seem retarded.

What BloodySunday77 meant was that if someone (maybe you in the future, but in this case Zack Vex) creates something really innovative, new, unique or whatsoever, he should get the creds n cash for it.

Cheap-Heads like you shouldn't copy HIS work to save YOURSELF a few hundred bucks. Give it up to the real deal.

    T'care

  • Well, I would never use the word "retarded" - I think it shouldn't be used ever - but what you're writing is along my way of thinking...

  • I can see both sides of the argument here, but it always buy the effect before trying to make it for myself, bcos how do you know its gunna turn out right and sound exactly the same, im currently building a fuzz factory (yes i already own one) and to tell the truth i hope it turns out different to a zvex, i want it to have its own unique sound, so yeah, have fun reading all this useless shit i just wrote for no apparent reason =]

  • yeah that's one way to see it, but I don't like this idea of copying his work to save cash.

Same thing with music, people illegally share it to others, but the difference there is that the band itself doesn't lose much money on it. it's the record-companies that produce CD's that lose. and TBH I don't give a shit 'bout these money-squeezing band-factories. Hope they will be gone soon. They just steal money from the real musicians. They are not needed now that internet can handle the "spreading"

  • So wait, let me get this straight... in order for MisterKuss to NOT be "retarded" he would have to spend a shit ton of money on a painted box with typical electronics in it that he could have gotten for a fraction of the price and built himself, without the schematic for a ZVex and had it exactly how he wanted it?

ZVex didn't invent electromagnetism, and he sure as hell didn't "invent" the components used to make this box. He just put them together, and gave it a name.

  • (a) It's called "copyright", or just the fucking right to make a living out of what you make and sell.

    (b) The fact that all of today's electronic devices (from cheap radios to space shuttles) use the same electronic components doesn't lower their value. Would you need to "invent" the bricks to build your house? Get real.

    (c) "Putting them together" is actually much harder than you think - it's called "electronic design" - far more difficult than playing with Legos.

  • (d) ZVex didn't make this fuzz. The creator is mentioned in the video that you are supposed to watch before commenting.

    (e) If you had even the slightest touch with today's guitar pedal electronics, you would know that his designs are actually innovative and NOT a clone of anything else. Do your homework.

  • 1) if he built a pedal that was the same and SOLD it... it'd be wrong.

    2) building a pedal in the likeness of another is a method for learning... one that was used to MAKE THIS pedal. If you say not to do that, then you're saying that this pedal shouldn't have ever been made.

    3) You don't sound like you know what you're talking about. I build pedals on my own too... components and topography isn't very complicated, it's not a hard thing to design.

    Turn in your homework...

  • You would be the last person on earth for me to prove whether I know what I'm talking about or not, thank you very much.

"Invent electromagnetism"??! "Invent the components"???!!?! How old are you?!

I also make pedals of my own. You just don't get it, do you? Pedal designs don't start from scratch but in decent, no-clone designs like this, the similarities are like saying that a bird and an aeroplane both have wings. This pedal was made out of an idea - it didn't just disappear out of nowhere.

  • i demand a video of one of your pedals sir.

  • (a) You are in no position to "demand" anything, (b) they are (or I should say, were, because I am not into that hobby anymore) just clones, (c) I am a lousy demonstrator, (d) they don't work anymore.

  • not you trick, saladin.

  • I are englis methinks veri best.

  • hahaha

  • Putting them together isn't hard at all. I had absolutely no electrical experience, hadn't soldered anything in my life before I build an API and Neve preamp from 7th circle audio. They turned out fine. Then I ordered some BYOC pedals and they also turned out just fine. If you have a schematic, it shouldn't take that long to learn.

Since these pedals are so expensive, the only way I'd ever own one is if I built it myself. Zvex doesn't lose out on any money, since I could never buy them anyway.

  • i wonder if chris wolstenholme uses one of these for his bass distortions...

  • My advice: Build your own pedal on a piece of stripboard, for less than 30$...

It will take 1 hour and sound just the same.

  • Ok, the next time you'll try to sell something, I'll just copy it and save myself the money. Makes sense.

  • they need a video with more bass in it instead of guitar. although they both sound fantastic.

  • if u wanna hear another demo of this pedal...type in "another way to die" by jack white and alicia keys

  • BEST FUZZ ON EARTH...BOUGHT ONE TODAY FOR A B-DAY/CHRISTMAS COMBO...(it was quite worth it)...but this thing will satisfty me forever.

  • This guy talk always remminds me of dennis leary.

  • i played a 79 rickenbacker thru a 1960s ampeg portaflex with this, it was the bassiest fuzz i have ever used awesome!

  • The pedal is a one-trick pony; it does one kind of sound, so it's not the most versatile pedal. I used to have it on my pedalboard, but now it just lays in my pile of unused pedals. Besides, it's so small that I always manage to screw up the settings everytime I step on it. However, it's such a special pedal that I'll keep it around for studiowork. Soundwise, it sounds like my russian Big Muff PI through a noisegate and compressor. Though, my guitarist seems to have fallen in love with it...

  • Its very expensive but its the greatest fuzz bass pedal I ever seen, where I can buy that sick sound?

  • You've seen it, ok, but have you played with it? With your guitar and on your amp? And more importantly, have you compared it to other fuzzes that you like?

As I explained, don't take the wonderful sound of this video for granted - it doesn't sound so amazing (to me, anyway).

  • As to where you can find it, it depends on what country you're from... try Musicstore de or Proguitarshop com.

  • Well, a correction: it DOES sound amazing but it depends greatly on the amp being used, the volume levels, the pickups, its position in the pedal chain etc.

  • i love it!!!!

  • it arrived!!! its amazing!!!! demo/review up soon, can i put it as a response to this vid, yeah?

  • Yes, let me know!

  • ordered myn yesterday for 228 pounds(including P&P) cant wait!!!

  • Are you going to use it for guitar or bass? Post a clip!

  • BASS BASS BASS BASS BASS BASS!!! and of course im gonna post a clip!!! ill do a whole review/demo!!! plus im gonna add some big muff + wolly mammoth playing!!!!! ill post a comment here when i have the vid up!!

  • dude, they dont cost 400 euros in Eurpe!!rofl

    in england they're 219 pounds(bout 275 euro)

  • Do a little searching. 355 euros in a big internet german store. Although in the Vintage & Rare Guitars shop it costs 288... but you also have shipping costs.

  • Since it seems the prices have changed, I also changed the description of the video. But still pricey as hell, I am afraid.

  • In Italy there's only one authorized reseller and the price is 375 EUR.

    Crazy price!

Google around a little bit and get schematics for cool FX...you can divide by 10 the price of zvex!

  • when i get myn, im gonna do a demo and put it on youtube fo sho!!!

  • exactly :06 seconds spent featuring a bass with a pedal made for this instrument? :/

  • Man, this dude almost talks about Chuck Zwicky for longer than he plays bass through this... BASS FUZZ!

This is very frustrating to hear a demo of a bass pedal played with a guitar. It's bad enough there are 10 guitar pedals per bass pedal, but to steal the bloody demo is just maddening!

  • My point exactly! Well, I just received mine and it looks badass! I'll be testing it later tonight, so I can keep you posted on what I think about it.

  • You can post a video... maybe I can link it up with the demo above...

  • Can't figure out why he just only 30 seconds to demonstrate the pedal with bass when the pedal is built for bassplayers. I'm strongly considering buying one, but need more soundclips determine if this is something I would pay 400 dollars for...

  • Exactly... by the way, its price is not reasonable at all. I mean, I've had my fair share of boutique pedals but this is really outrageous. The only way I will pay more than 250 euros for a pedal is only for a Fulltone Tape Echo, a Moogerfooger or an Effectrode pedal. Mr. Vex, fuggedaboutit.

  • not enough on bass tbh!

  • this is probably the best bass distortion/fuzz pedal cause it keeps the bottom end.

  • Might be a strange question, but would the pedal's tone sound any different if using the power plate 9 volt adapter?

Also, is this the type of effect that works best towards the front of the signal path, or does it not matter?

  • It is almost always better when used before preamp and poweramp sections, as all fuzzes. However, experimentation is the key to anyone's personal sound...

As for the power plate 9 volt adapter, I am afraid I didn't understand your question at all! If you mean "would it sound different if I were to use an an adaptor", I would say no.

  • Yep, that's what I was wondering. Some people claim that pedals sound different when run with a battery, rather than a power adapter.

  • The truth of this is, at best, ubiquitous, although I run two of my fuzzes only with batteries. Only in very special cases there might be a difference, and this one is not one of them.

(I have never connected them to an adapter, but the reason for this is that I want to avoid any burning accidents with their collectible transistors (and believe me, they have come THIS close to getting burned - they have reverse polarity).

  • with a good noise free adapter, i'd say no. But i've heard some players use an almost dead battery on ceartain pedals cause they like the sound better.

  • On old fuzzes. It's such a simple and sensitive circuit (especially with Fuzz Face & germaniums) that the non alkaline battery (probably due to delivering smaller current) creates a "sag" and softer sound.

  • I think fuzzes should sound a bit darker. (see: about this video) With that in mind, I think this is the greatest fuzz I've ever heard. I would totally use it exclusively for guitar.

  • I know what you mean... all fuzzes tend to scream with their treble. But I think it lacks definition (well, all fuzzes lack definition - they are not snappy Mesa Triple Recs - but I mean that most of the nice fuzzy details are gone).

  • Jack White of the White Stripes is now using one of these on stage

  • Sounds like farts at the beginning

  • The maker of this video is an asshole. Bass players have to put up with guitar player vanity all the time, but demoing 3/4 of a bass pedal demo on a guitar is downright insulting. He says 'listen to the subs' and then plays the guitar. How pathetic and delusional is that?

  • I take it you are a bassist... you're probably right, though!

  • Don't even talk about "guitarist vanity." I play bass and guitar and bass is way easier. But you're right. He should have shown more bass and less guitar (or no guitar).

  • You're right - power chords are harder to play than root notes. If you're getting more complicated than that, it's like comparing apples and oranges.

  • err... by demonstrating that this pedal can blast subs while being used on guitar enforces the fact that it will destroy subs if used with bass... you're an idiot.

  • The guitar demonstrated the subs just fine Lummox

  • yeah the zvex guy is a total ass wipe when it comes to bass pedals. i once asked why he didn't create many bass pedals and he just basically said "because bassists don't buy as many pedals as guitarists." what a tool.

  • Well, that's actually, er... true? Haven't you figured out yourself by now that bassists don't actually buy so many pedals because they don't need them?

  • Yeah, thats kind of like asking "mr hot rodder guy, how come you don't make special body kits for mini-vans?"

  • nope.

  • even in this demo despite its being a bass pedal the majority is guitar

  • i have this pedal for my bass...great pedal..z vex makes great stuff...check out the wah probe and tremolo probe pedals..incredible

  • The Fuzz Factory is more of a toy. It is too unpredictable to get a constant sound that you can rely upon (especially in a live situation), too crazy to sound musical and natural (as natural can a fuzz sound), too small to be used easily live, and too expensive just to play with. I'll stick with my Fulltones and Big Muff...

  • i've seen the fuzz factory played in live sets a few times and it was completely awesome. the song was completely recognizable from the original.

  • this pedal is for Bass not for guitar if you want a Fuzz for guitar is the Fuzz Factory, i bought the 2 of them, and thats how i use it F.F. guitar an W.M. for bass

  • I would rather hear more bass through it than guitar. Sounds like the best bass fuzz pedal ever though.

  • True, as a bass fuzz it is absolutely great, as long as you remember to treat its knobs correctly or its goes berserk (especially the "Wool" - kind of a noise gate).

And although I don't like it for guitar, I must admit it's in a league of its own. No Fuzz Face clone, and no Tone Bender -Maestro - Octavia - Foxx Tone Machine clone either.
