I seriously need to start using this again, it's been sitting on the table in my bedroom looking at me, calling me for about the last 2 years. Maybe I made a mistake when I got this as my first ever synth. I sure am happy I have it though. It's clearly capable of doing a lot. I just wish there was a way to connect it to a big screen and see more detail. It would make it so much easier and faster to edit.
Very good impressions, what's possible with the Fusion. I also have a 8HD but sometimes I hate her and sometimes I love her...she's like a devil and give us just so much we can imagine. But I think you told her to do the things that you will!
Congrats, it sounds very gooood!!!!
Thank's for the video
Michael
PS: My own sound for a pedalsteel here named: 130 Video
After listening to you I purchased a fusion 8. This keyboard is way underrated. It has sounds no others have. I also own a TYROS, and planning to make some joyful sounds.
Why exactly did the Fusion last so short on the market, it looks a fabulous synthesizer workstation, i'm looking to buy one, but they're so rare. Cheep though, but i can only find them in america (I'm in the UK) such a shame.
I have an 8HD Fusion... this video is why... it inspired me to the proper levels of gear lust to go and buy one. Mine has the Hollow Sun and probably every freepack available, plus some paid ones, like Nebulae. It does do strange MIDI things at times, such as turn off all my other modules' effects and resets the patches, but that's going away as I learn more about this synth. It is a tremendously versatile instrument, and I hope mine lasts for years and years so I can learn it.
I like it, though I agree with the comments below from HIDEPlatonic... it does weird things on MIDI and sometimes it crashes, or on sequences sometimes it turns the effects off on other synths, and resets patches. However, lately it is behaving very well. The strength of this synth is shown better in the 3rd party sounds, and the edit capability. Having 32-40 tracks is nice, too. The keyboard feel is good, though mine has variations in response across the board. Cont'd...
The funny thing about the Fusion is that its sounds are nowhere near what the QSR and QS series had. At least, at the factory level. But, it is a good synth, and highly underrated. The idea behind it was excellent. I don't anticipate getting rid of mine, because there is so much that can be done with it. But I wouldn't gig with it at all. It's a good studio workstation, especially midi'ed up to other kit. I paid $750 for mine, but I think $600-$700 is about right actually.
see i already have a studio midi controller and my sh201, but i want some more range. sh201 has great effects and controls and some awesome 8 bit sounding noises and pads, but i am looking for something that is missing, and that is a real analog out of this world (different) sound. like at 1.53 in this video. that lead is so sweet in every way the word sweet is used. i am missing that. i want to gig with it. if i did get it, it would have to be the 8hd. fully weighted keys are awesome.
I bought mine 2 years ago. Used it on stage one time. Volume levels all different ,Sound man had a fit. Also Changing programs is slow, loads off al hard drive. I love this keyboard and it sits in my studio now as a synth controller. Sometimes it spits out strange MIDI info and crashes the midi drivers. I tried it with my FAntom XR and it took a big dump and the fantom Crashed. Its buggy and I have the update installed but I wouldn't recomend this as a live keyboard.
Very under rated great synth that should of been more successful if Alesis weren't such tards...but why the hell is it so god damn ugly and why no rack mount version?!
seems to me Vanderson is like Karsh... Karsh could make amazing photos form Kodak Instamatic cams.. same as Vanderson.... he can probably make any synth sound stellar. its all in the user.......
I have a Alesis Fusion 6HD. I must say it is the best sampling instrument workstation I ever had. My first workstation was a Roland XP50 which of course didnt have the capabilities for multisampling. Each has their pros and cons but I think the fusin overall has more pros than cons. Think about it this way. I owned the XP and I use to hear sounds I wish I could have played in the XP but couldn't but now I can with the fusion. It is very simple once you understand how it works.
Alesis needs to stick to what it's always been good at (aside from ADAT, which they hopelessly poured money into to create an hard disc version about the same time computer production was becoming the norm. Morons): Analog synths. Just analog synths (Andromeda is a beastly synth) If I'd owned the d@mned company, it sure has hell wouldn't have been sold, because it would have been streamlined, and profitable. Too much ego, okay ideas, awful implementation.
Nice demo. I have a fusion too, and it's serves me well. BTW, It's not only a very deep sound generator with the best patching ever devised, but does a respectable job at zero-latency multitracking my analog synths I still have around. But what I like is this thing can really nail down so many of the classic analog sounds, that's what got me to buy it. Any chance you can post your demo sounds? I'll in turn I'll email you a dead-on Van Halen guitar, as well an Roland MKS-30 modeled synth.
This keyboard is a wonderful keyboard. It can do way more than any other keyboard on the market today. What I like most about it is, you are able to load sample sounds of most any kind in to this keyboard.
this is a synth with so much potential. yamaha removed fricking their own FM/modeling synthesis, and Korg has just EXB Radias. Roland's ARX expansions are all for acoustic instruments...only Fusion had so much polyphony and multitimbrality PER synth engine...16 multitimbral FM, VA, VL? wow! No other synth comes close. Too bad Alesis released it prematurely giving a bad initial impression. Alesis should have released it a little later with beta test/bug fixes, etc.
Exactly. Its specs are still huge -so they should have developed it year or two longer before releasing. And they still should.. Alesis should keep continue developing Ion and Fusion. Model II or something.. new OS versions at least.
how would you rate this keyboard overall in its capability to make good trance/techno music? not just yanni/tangerine dream kind of stuff, but full up high energy trance/dance/techno complete with all the super fantastic synth effects and otherworldly sounds?
no niestety, trochę cienko z funduszami więc trzeba czasem poświęcić coś "mniej potrzebnego" i kupić coś nowego, takie czasy :)
Radias jest ciekawy, ale Viruch powala na kolana. Myślę że wystarczy wersja B, ale desktop. Nie kupuj w racku bo będziesz się wkurzał na obsługę tak jak ja kiedyś... Miałem Virusa własnie w racku, parę filmików w tył znajdziesz gdzies tam go w akcji :)
Teraz czekam jak przyjdzie czas żeby odkupić go sobie, ale desktopa :)
ja obiecałem żonie, że nic już nie będę kupował nowego, teraz będziemy mieli inne ważniejsze rzeczy (czyt. dziecko), natomiast liczę się też z jakąś zamianą, swoją drogą myślałem jednak o radiasie, fakt że słyszałem go jedynie w demach no i chciałem kupić w rack'u (mam nadzieję, że da radę go sprawnie obsługiwać), co do virusa to jeszcze mam sporo czasu żeby się porozglądać, no i dzięki za ważną uwagę a propos wersji w racku:)

@wrightie008 it's been criticized for it's plastic sounding VA, that which I don't mind. I find it more of an expectation than a fault

Typical Alesis - Gorgeous design, horrible engine and/or implementation.
I'm a pretty loyal Korgie, myself, and my Triton Extreme is great... but I will tell you this..
The Fusion is gorgeous. Styled after an airplane wing. What did we expect? It's a shame it sounds a lot like a Korg Trinity 10+ years too late.
Well, I guess that's why they got bought out by Numark. It doesn't help that the management didn't really seem to give a shit about the company.
