When I first saw Doink on WWF, I remember thinking, "This guy can actually wrestle!" Had Vinny Mac put the clown make-up on someone else, this gimmick probably would have flopped. But Bourne really took off with it and made it work. He really had the potential to be a big name in the wrestling business, IMO. I saw him live in many wild brawls as 'Maniac' Matt Bourne for ECCW in BC. Good times.
Awesome how Bourne used this Bourne Again gimmick to give a nod back to his Doink as well as Big Josh (0:53 when he puts the sleeveless flannel shirt on) gimmicks.

Every time I see one of these old promos, with this banner behind them, I remember a comment from Paul E., where he talks about the shooting of these. It was done in their video guy's basement- behind the classic ECW banner is a washer and dryer.It doesn't take away from the incredible mike work, in fact, it gives perspective on how far the original ECW came in such a shirt time.

This promo is epic. Shane Douglas although an overrated wrestler can cut a promo like no other. Matt [Os]bourne was always underrated; the Doink gimmick would have crushed most people's careers yet he ran with it taking it to new heights

Glad I'm not the only one that thought this. Listening to Bourne's ECW promos, I can only think of 2 things. 1. how good they are, and 2 how much his voice sounds like Piper's in them.

he is have you ever heard matt do a shoot. when matt broke in in late seventy eight it was the same time piper had just started in portland and the rest is history... Matt borne aka doink used to party it up with Roddy Piper and Rick Martel

@badassindo he was very good friends with piper back in their portland days, when you hang out with someone long enough you can start picking up some things from them. he said in a shoot interview that he watched alot of the old batman series and tried to act like the joker

I have always liked Matt Bourne. Very underrated promo man. Great overall talent. And I am not just saying that because he is from the northwest.
