What they needed to do was get shovels and dig out all that thick mud around the wheels so they wouldn't stick, then use boards to ramp it up to the top of the rest of the muf and that most likely would have pulled it out with no damage. Sure maybe they didn't have shovels or boards but they have other unstick trucks to run to a hardware store to buy that stuff, which is a better option than ripping the Jeep apart like that. But hey, hindsight is 20/20 and i've made plenty of stupid mistakes.

Actually, if they had tied it to the axle, it might have gone differently (still unsuccessfully, probably). The problem was, it was tied to the body/frame, and the right front was so hopelessly buried in mud, it just pulled the body forward, and that tire stayed stuck. The right front tire is under the middle of the jeep at the end - that might be what is holding it in the air, in fact. He needed to be pulled backwards, where the tire had already made a track. Wow, what carnage!
