When Elvis first recorded I was amazed at the difference he made to the whole music scene,I could'nt wait for each new release, all rock and roll.Then to see him on film Love Me Tender, was fantastic.I did'nt like the ballad  LMT as I was interested in his r&r singing and his hip movements.In the early 60s I was amazed by his comeback recordings Are You Lonesome Tonight and It's Now Or Never , I realised then he could sing almost anything and sound great.He's 1000s of imitators no equals.

Very very good but Jim Reeves version is impossible to equal,the smoothness of his voice, the sincerity the backing orchestra all in Jims favour.I am a great fan of both from day 1 of their respective careers but can see that every song recorded by them is not fabulous, better than good but not fabulous.

If Elvis had recorded it at the same time he would have sounded like he did on other similar songs like Can't Help Falling in Love. But still great on both versions.
