All that man can do is kill the body, to be absent form the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. The world is not worthy of such men, Dietrich Bonhoeffer loved not his own life even unto his own death.
Even as an atheist, I must admit that to even use the word "Bonhoeffer" in a sentence is to "sanctify" that thought. Bonhoeffer knew only what it was to give, and not to take. He did NOT have to come back to Germany when Hitler took power. He fully knew he might end up giving his life. He accepted that completely.
Bonhoeffer stood against Nazism and Hitler in every way, including by giving his life against it. No more brave person ever walked the earth.
I wish the type reflected the gravity of the moment better....it was more thrown together pizza flyer than elegant and somber. Typography is an art-using it here would have honored this great man in a more noble, fitting way.
@vivascargill Wow. Wow. And double wow. That moved me deeply. it was intense and appropriatelynamed. The Grace and fearlessness of which he went to meet his Master.
-My God-Stated in the most prayful way possible. Thanks for showing this to me. Definitely looking for the book. This movie from this one scene is intriguing.
DIETRICH BONHOEFFERS POEM, WHICH HE WROTE IN CONCENTRATION CAMP FLOSSENBRÜCK:
-

BY PEACEFUL POWERS, TRUE AND QUIETLY SURROUNDED
SOLACED AND COMFORTED WONDERFULLY
JUST THIS WAY I WANT TO LIVE MY DAYS WITH ALL OF YOU
AND GO WITH WITH INTO A NEW YEAR
Pavlinara3 3 weeks ago
BY PEACEFUL POWERS WONDERFULLY COMFORTED
WE WAIT HERE CONFIDENTLY, FOR WHATEVER COMES
GOD IS WITH US AT THE EVENING AND THE MORNING
AND FOR VERY SURE AT EVERY SINGLE DAY.
STILL THE OLD WANTS TO TORTURE OUR HEARTS
STILL THE BAD DAYS OVERWHELM US
OH LORD GIVE OUR FLUSHED SOULS
THE SALVATION, WHICH YOU MADE US FOR
Pavlinara3 3 weeks ago
WHEN YOU GIVE US THE BITTER GOBLET THE, HEAVY ONE
THE ONE THAT’S FILLED WITH SORROWS
WE WILL ACCEPT IT WITHOUT ANY SHAKING
AND TAKE IT FROM YOUR GOOD AND LOVING HAND
BUT LORD WILL YOU RATHER GIVE US JOY AGAIN
A JOYFUL AND BRIGHT WORLD
THEN WE WILL ETERNALLY REMEMBER THE BAD THAT HAS PASSED
AND THEN OUR LIFES WELL BE YOURS FOREVER
Pavlinara3 3 weeks ago
LET WARM AND STILL THE CANDLE BURN TODAY
WHICH YOU BROUGHT INTO OUR LIFES
LEAD US TOGETHER AGAIN IF IT MAY BE
WE KNOW THAT YOUR LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARK
WHEN NOW THE SILENCE SURROUNDS US
LET US HEAR THE STRONG SOUND
OF THE INVISIBLE PEACEFUL WORLD AROUND US
ALL OF YOUR CHILDRENS HIGHEST ANTHEM
