@eisemanrenyardjake yes we learned how to use our imagination in those days, the kids of today have had that stripped from them by internet mobile phones, their innocence also robbed too, we had it tough then but a cardboard box was the best !!!
I always, even as a kid wanted to know who had the job of collecting those rocket sledges after each launch or was there just a massive pile of them in the desert.
@trackend good point , i reckon their was a dedicated team that reset the launch runway before XL5 returned home, `we`re on our way home` we`re on our way home ` LOL
So after watching an episode of Thunderbirds on cable this Sat morning, I HAD TO LOOK FOR FIREBALLXL5, the best of the lot! Ahhhhh, the memories! And yes, I'm 50-something and old enough to have seen it during its original run in the midwest. Over and Out!
@Kamou10 cool, it was the best show, all the characters were real and the story lines were better then and still are !!! everything was logical and easy to follow , unlike todays masproduced drivel ...LOL
@ejcm55 Yeah, I lived for that opening sequence, every saturday morning. I even had a Fireball XL5 lunchbox. I just got the XL5 and SuperCar DVD collections.
Thanks for posting this video. Brings back memories. I loved this show. Before it I loved Supercar, and after it I loved Thunderbirds. My brother got a plastic model of Firebird XL 5 for Christmas.
I was in first grade in 1963 when CBC broadcast it at 3:30 in the afternoon. I would literally run home as fast as my 5 year old legs would carry me so as not to miss a single precious second, only to be bitterly disappointed by invariably arriving home early and having to suffer through the remainder of the lead-in show, "Mr. Rogers". Even at the age of five I found his show insufferably dull and babyish.
@problem49 Yes i never missed a second, it was the best thing on the TV, futuristic fresh and different , of course supercar was still going too !!, but all the gems were still to be made.... stingray thunderbirds captain scarlett joe 90 ufo etc etc . Cheers
@kopynd1 we both got mixed up LOl, it was Barry Gray, i thought for years it was John Barry, but we were wrong , but he did all the music for the Gerry Anderson series . Cheers man
What with Steve's reference to Venus's "French cooking," I'm inclined to think that Venus is based on Yvette Mimieux. Their voices sure sound similar. And, I must say, when I first saw the episode "Planet 46," I fell in love with the main instrumental theme, with its Latinesque feel, not unlike the main theme of the original "Star Trek." I note that there apparently never any strings, only early electronic keyboards and top-drawer horn section.
@baraxor Same for me , Interesting facts you sent me about the design of the Rocket Thanks, I will put them in the more info, if that s allright with you !!! Wayne
@HappyJack01 Yep they all had there routes and it goes back even further, than we think, there was one bright spark at the start, before all this society and politics and money nonsense lol, I blame Health and safety for most things , they are a set of numpties, imposing silly rules designed to protect idiots at the expense of everybody elses freedom to do what they please LOLOL Cheers my friend !!!
@baraxor hahahaha, so funny, but they could keep the attention then AND now !! classic stuff that will live for ever !! many thanks for popping in on my Cheeky channel LOL !! Wayne (oh I popped the remixed music on the top) hope you liked it
Fantastic Wayne. Loved this show when I was a kid. In the late 80's I played in a band called 'Thunderbirds Are Go!'. Our poster was our heads superimposed on their bodies.
OMG dave You have a colourful past, well black and white in this case, A tootie, I was going to ask you the same ?, maybe Max would know ? I think it was maybe a colourful term from the 60`s refering to someone who has taken blue or pink pils hahahaha or maybe not
I used to sit and wait for it to come on, and i never missed a second of every show, I was Steve Zodiac and actually flew Fireball XL 5 . I was in love with Venus, and thought I would marry her one day...
Thats very interesting, I love all the Barry gray stuff, it was just classic stuff, and it will always be the best , The pinnacle of band sync ahd been reached, sadly attempted to be replaced by computers, but it will never be as good, not in a month of sundays and the rest, anyway blue pills pink pills or steak ? lol
Made a model of Fireball in lego with an empty, gray, tubular battery pack for the fuselage.

used to love this...
but Barry Gray is the smart bastard..
he did the music for all of Gerry Anderson stuff...
Did you notice he used different music for the start and the end of a lot of the shows?
He got twice the royalities..
When the shows were repeated Anderson got progressively less for each showing, whereas Grays money actually went up..
Pissed old Gerry off no end
lol
