I'm level 14 orc and have a smithing level of 70. I think if you use the Fists of Steel, I think you should focus on leveling up your smithing so that you can make some really good gauntlets and upgrade them so that they do the best. I think at level 70 you can make Flawless armour and weapons

I got my 100 smithing by just mass making iron daggers (iron bar and leather strips are required). I sat at Whiterun and bought out the stock from the Blacksmith girl. Once I bought out all the iron bars and leather strips I would wait 48 hours (2 days) and buy out the supply again. I repeated the process a few times... Enchanting the daggers you make is an AWESOME way to get your enchanting up (which I didnt do, i regret it). I hop this helps!

By the way brad, the more you work on magic then fighting will suddenly become very difficult and you will end up fighting high power mages and necromancers. That's what happened to my brother, he finds being blasted with fireballs the destroy half his health very annoying. Just wanted to give you a little warning.

Caution Brad! If you're planning to go with the heavy armor, go to the right side of the smithing tree, not the left. I went to the left myself and planned to get the daedric weaponry perk from the left as well, but apparently you can't get the perk if it's from a higher position.

for heavy armors go to the right of the tree not the left, left side is light armor meant for sneaking and mobility, steel, dwarven,orcish, ebony, daedric, and dragon armor are heavy sets

iron ingot and leather strips are easy to come by just go hunting, deer, saber, goats, bears, all of their Hyde can be turned to leather strips at tanning racks. There's one at a forge in white run at the iron maiden weapon shop. iron ingot can be ought there as well or iron can be mined smelted into ingot.

Hey Brad I would go for the dwarven armor path then you wouldnt spend 1 extra perk slot for dragon and then daedric. p.s. you want to train heavy armor right? then you MUST choose dwarven armor cause thats heavy armor, elven armor is light armor!!

On your smithing skill tree, the right side is heavy armor and the left side is light armor. Even if you get dragon armor perk, you can't go straight to Daedric or Glass.

Brad Something shop in Riften, go inside and downstairs into the basement, there's about 15 iron ingots, 10 steel, plus about 3 iron ore. This respawns after two days (in-game days[yes you can wait]) spent outside of Riften. Just to help you out :)

for decent armor, do the alduins wall quest quickish and u can find some blades armor,i have lvl 50 heavy armor and improved it all to superior, the main armor is 86 av

Also, make sure before you craft iron daggers for smithing, make sure you are well rested (from sleeping) and activate the warrior stone (if you haven't already) at the Guardian Stones.

For iron go to Halted Stream Mine, Northeast of Whiterun. There are a couple of bandits (shouldn't be too much trouble) and inside there is 16 iron ore veins. I think you get 3 ore from each iron vein so that should help produce chi tons of iron ingots in the smelter.

the dwarven scrap medal from the spiders and spheres can be converted into dwarven ingots for smithing.

spam buying iron ingots, leather, and leather strips. the stores redo their stock every in-game 2 days. Buy traveling from Riverwood to Whiterun to Marthal to Solitude to Riften and back to Riverwood. Fast travel to each place and go to the Smiths. By the time you get back to Riverwood the smith and stores will be restocked. Continue in the same path until you have a shitload of materials. The only issue is loading time and Money. Like so Brad can see.

btw Brad, don't know if tis would help but you can find the Glove of Pugilist (from a dude in Riften Ratways), you can disenchant the effects (10% more damage to unarmed attacks), and enchant the effect to your gauntlets, you will dish out more dmg

Brad, empty, get a pick axe, go to Downstar, Go to the iron ore mine, mine a shit load of iron ores, use Downstar's smelter and blacksmith to make the iron daggers.

the dwarven scrap metals are for smelting dwarven metal igots (for better armor and weaponry)

DON'T SELL THE DRAGON BONES. YOU'RE GONNA NEED THEM FOR THE DRAGON HEAVY ARMOR when you reach lvl 100 smithing with dragon armor smithing perk.

BRAD GO TO RIFTEN if you go to the smithy there go inside his house and go to his basement and there are atleast a couple dozen iron ingots in his basement with some silver steel ingots too and there are also a shit load of leather strips!!!!! and you can complete a quest were you give him 10 fire salts and you can take the iron ingots without stealing them because they replenish every 4 or 5 days

brad i dont know if someone told u already but whatever u smith gives the same experience so it would be really easy if you just kill a lot of animals to get their furs and you can turn fur into leather and leather into leather strips which means all you have to do is smith leather bracers and for that all you need is leather and leather strips i hope this helps, because of this i got my smithing to 100 really fast
