(as i always loved the 5150 , it could easily replace my randall combo . and the AD515VT will be replaced by an AD50VT or perhaps AC30CC . can't decide as i'm just addicted to the vox simulation of the AD50VT but love it's versatile tone . but , hey , the vox can do good rock and for that remains , metal and hard rock there will be the peavey ...

Is there a big difference between Japanese and Korean Tokais? I have heard that Japanese ones are better made than Koreans?? (different parts breaking and stuff.)

Yes. I have two Japs and two Koreans. The japs are far superior. Be aware there are different grades though. Jap ones range from £600 up to £2500 depending on the grade. The one you see here would go for around £1000 in the UK, not far off Gibson money. Those that say they can tell the difference blindfold between a Gibo and a top grade Tokai talk utter shite. If anything the best Tokais are better.

No this one here is a LS90 and goes around £600 new, it's almost entry level in japanese models. For £1000 you can get a LS150 which really really nails a gibson.

Essentially, the top is the only difference. Flame (85F) vs Quilt(90Q), you choose.

One more thing, I swear this is it, You can't buy the Tokais in North America anymore. Unless you get one on ebay. That's where I bought mine about 3 years ago. They are getting more scarce since the lastest Gibson lawsuit. Get 'em while you can.

Thats because Gibson have lobbied the shops like crazy to get them to boycot lawsuit replicas like Tokai and Burny. They don't like the fact that the japs can take their design and build it better, like they do most things these days.

To bore you even more.... the pickups on the tokais sound great. My 58 LP has Voodoo pickups and they sound muddy compared to the Tokai pickups.

I have 3 Korean Tokai's, LP Gold top, Flying V Korina, Explorer w/split headstock Korina. I paid about $400 each for them. I have no complaints. I also own a 1958 Gibson Les Paul sunburst reissue Tom Murphy aged, and a 1990 Les Paul Special, I would put the Tokai's up against any of them. The only difference in the Koreans is there is no fret binding and they have maple necks like Gibson used in the 70's. Other than that, I wish they were around when I was a beginner.

All entry level japanese (ls70,ls75 and so on) models are more than decent imho.

The korean ones can be ok, it's just that they don't have a consistent qc. You can get a surprisingly good one, you can get a bad one. I say go for a japanese, you will be more than happy
