  • oh yeah american freshmen just discovered sport that we do in Europe for almost hundred years and now they gonna be the best of the best...jesus America is funny

  • 5:30 love his shooting technic

  • :D i'm in a biathlon team as well. had a competition today at the Callaham Whistler Olympic park. it's my first time racing but i came in 5th place. on my first round of shooting hit 2 targets, 2nd round 1, and last unfortunately none but my arm was shaking so much because i was tired. i love biathlon!!!

  • lol would it be more exciting to see them strap a heavy 50.cal on their back?

  • 5000 calories? I am almost training like an Olympic athlete. I just dont do the actual exercise part.

  • what rifle do they use. I have a toggle bolt Izhmash basic biathlong, but it's the most basic for competition.

  • @cliffcox66 Anschutz 1827

  • @cliffcox66 Anschütz

  • How about snowboarding and shooting?

  • In biathlon you need to be really strong and tough, but at the same time technical in skiing and shooting as well. In my opinion it`s the greatest winter sport, because it is outdoor`s and it makes you to develop in many sides. On the one hand it`s the same xc skiing, but the shooting makes it more unpredictable, interesting and attractive for the spectators and fans:)

  • you have to be ex military or police to do this :)

  • goddam these guys are strong

  • @kaos3124 Not weird at all, when you think of its origin. Biathlon originates with the Norwegian Army, and was introduced to the public by the first ski club in the world, Trysil Rifle and Ski Club (1861). The club was formed specifically to promote national defense, a PR attempt if you will, much like the computer game "America's Army", made by the US Army.

  • @stengevarsel I am from Trysil :D haha awesome ^^

  • Was anyboy else watching this during the olympics and then all of a sudden thought they were watching a ski race when all of a sudden you thought "Wait, what the fuck are they shooting at?"

  • @kaos3124 it is weird . but its really hard .

  • @kaos3124 Actually, that sounds like a great idea. Who wants to join me?

  • They also use .22 ammo also probably because of the low recoil so they can make fast follow up shots.

  • @mikey41297 its also so the people watching the competitors compete dont go deaf

  • This is actually an extremely difficult sport. I'm a Canadian biathlete myself. Thanks for the "respect". :) Feels good to know people appreciate the sport.

  • Im sorry but I dont see the point of this sport???

    It looks funny though

  • i love snowboarding but this sport is tough!

  • Fantastic winter sport! Really painful too, unfortunately. I've been a biathlon runner for some years now, and it's very fun!

I'm glad the Norwegians still rule in biathlon..

  • at least they're not campers

  • TEAM CANADA WE GONNA OWN JUNIOR WORLDS BIATHCHEZ

  • Sometime design auto-aim for real life..

  • I am from a little country Estonia, where cross-country skiing is at the moment more popular than biathlon. Those two sports need big heart, if you don't have one, you're not fit to do it. One of our XC skier did 60km double-pole skiing a day after ankle injury before 2002 Olympics, he then won gold and silver medals, 4 years later he defended his Olympic gold medal.

If you want to become a cross-country skier, then you have to practice at least 6 days a week, 4 hours a day (like my friends)

  • How do they score? It's a combination of speed (skiing) and accuracy (shooting)? So do they subtract time if they shoot accurate or use points or what?

  • @random234

It depends on distance, if it is sprint (12.5km) then 1 miss = you have to pass extra 150m lap. In 20km distance, every miss equals to 1 minute time added to your time. So you cannot win if you are the fastest but cannot shoot the targets and you cannot win if you are the best shooter but slow skier. It is about 2 sports and that's why it is so popular and entertaining.

  • KILL AND RUN ! thats what thats sports about,, modern and legal sidejob of assasins

  • i still love curling...

  • these guys have serious guts.

  • It's the other way around. Your muscles recover faster after xc skiing than running.

  • This is the most impressive sport in my opinion,.. work pulse up high on ski and get it low fast and take the shots.

  • thats kick asss :D

  • yah im a biathlete, and let me tell you, it's a challenge but if you have the right mindset for it and your determined, you will do well!!

  • @Airforce807

where did you get your skis?

  • Fuck! The first thing I am gonna do in September is sign up for biathlon team!

  • @electronikita

where did you get your skis?

  • @puparoni you can get them anywhere but it depends on where you live.

  • @Chingster22, I disagree, I think there's more impact while running, and it's much harder to go up and down the hills.

  • @TheACacello

where did you get your skis?

  • @SelinaJR, remember that there are also uphill spots that take a lot out of you.

  • its hard to walk on skies in snow!

  • these people have mind power good on em

  • i thought this was the weirdest olympic sport ever when i saw it on TV! these guys are amazing

  • Go Iraq- Oh wait...

  • why no 40 pound .50 cal?

  • cuz this is COD MW2 an i dont think they would want to carry that on their back the ENITRE TIME

  • new favorite winter sport

  • i agree. this looks like it HURTS. respect to all of them. you need to be a champion to do this shit every day

  • @junkevin Heyy. I do biathlon. It does kind of hurt XD

  • @MelElise123

where did you get your skis? I need some!

  • @MelElise123

Where did you get your biathlon skis? I need some!

  • @junkevin thanks.its one of the 5 most painful and hard sports.

  • Good luck U.S.A!! You guys are amazing!

  • yeah TIm, he used to be my neighbor in New York!!!!

  • how random is that!

    skiing and shooting????

  • Comment removed

  • The sport has its origins in an exercise for Norwegian soldiers, as an alternative training for the military. The world's first known ski club, the Trysil Rifle and Ski Club, was formed in Norway in 1861 to promote national defence at the local level.

  • nice wikipedia buddy

  • lol quoted exactly

  • @Invisus944 yeah, cuz they had firearms in the middle ages....

  • lol

  • Not random at all. I believe there was a US Army Ranger unit in WWII that did just that, except they didn't shoot at paper targets.

  • I think they should do that with 80 pounds of combat gear on lol

  • U S A! U S A!

  • It's great to see sports that people of varying ages can compete in.

  • Biathlon really is a great sport! Too bad the Fortner-actioned rifles are so expensive

  • @larshenrik91 EXACTLY i wana start training but geez the rifles are like $1,000

  • aussie will win even though we have no snow

  • Go Canada!!!!

  • Go TEAM USA!!!
