  • I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a new record out on Itunes and at CDBaby, called Everyday Magic, and featuring my new band. Glad you enjoy this video, and please check out the record! - Rahsaan

  • Hart:1 Barber:0

  • Rahsaan, Ever heard of a GREAT band called Here Come The Mummies?????

  • @wiedarw nice.... I'm pretty sure he has....LMAO

  • I was there just yesterday for their friday night concert. Antonio Hart is one of the greatest players in the world. I truly amazing man.

  • Saw Antonio at the Jamey Aebersold camp at U of L. He was amazing live.

  • Omg , My Idol Antonio Hart , Man He Is Amazing. He Went To My High School .

  • @abna13 I got to see him perform tonight at expressions actually! he's so amazing!

  • Yea I Met Him When He Was Practicin With The Jazz Combo. He's Incredible And Very Nice.

  • THese are two excellent players!!! Love this Clip. Good Ole jazz music!

  • What happened to Jazz teacher Mr. Tracy ?

  • i didnt kno wale played alto sax

  • I love Professor Hart! He is so good at sax.

  • Dayum.

    This is blazin'

  • Is that a young Herbie Hancock on bass?

  • :)) nice

  • I just realised (once again) how great Sonny

Stitt played and how far ahead he still( after

so many years) is. That´s not intended as a slight to these musicians, who obviously all can play.

  • Sonny Stitt was closer to the truth.

  • LOL...there's a boat somewhere, and I think you've missed it, decus69...

  • And what boat was that my friend?

  • @decus69 - Just that the "truth" you speak of changes for every art and for every artist constantly. The notion that one artist is closer to the truth than another (particularly when it may be based on a collected 2:45 seconds of hearing someone play) is merely an expression of greater artistic kinsman-ship with one artist over another by the speaker, imho.

  • @decus69 - Sonny Stitt IS absolutely one of my greater influences for the depth of melodic resources his improvising reveals. That said, I do not believe that either his audience, or the American audience (maybe culture is a better word for it) that jazz desperately needs to connect with, will be full of people (players and otherwise) evaulating the music in pursuit of its proximity to Sonny Stitt's musical accomplishment and artistic vision, or his "truth", as you say.

  • Bird was the fist truth as he spoke an orgiginal language then came Sonny stitt who apparantly spoke birds language but that is open to debate The essence of these two men Parker/Stitt have

been copied and twisted around into numerous genres but the truth remains.

I can hear where the these two guys are ripping from So, Stitt must be the truthas he is the foundation of the languge these two men speak.

  • Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art. - Charlie Parker

That said, there's PLENTY that I'm playing on this clip that doesn't have much to do with Sonny Stitt's influence in my playing...

  • Thanks for reminding everyone of that Bird quote...I think people often lose sight of the purpose of music, and they forget that we all come from different influences...

  • @bbjqsax killin playin dude

  • Still soundin' good Rah - Sal

  • I didnt know who antonio hart was until I saw that he is in the new dave holland group. He is a great player. It will be amazing to meet him and see him play next week at the pitt jazz seminar

  • Rahsaan, I heard you and your brother some years ago at F Scotts in Nashville and met you. You are playing sooo great bro! Smokin!

  • This past summer workshop I auditioned for him not knowing who he was and, jesus, he is an extremely good player. When he played with Don Braden at the camp, it was a life changing experience.

  • antonio is my guy, i saw him play at the summer jazz workshops last year in louisville, and i have been hooked on him since

  • I just saw Antonio while I was in Louisville.

He blew my mind. Like 8 times. Per night (I saw 5 3-hour shows). He's ridiculously good at inserting random quotes into music; the ones I remember are at bit from Rhapsody in Blue and Tenor Madness.

  • Yeah, he also threw in "The Rite of Spring"

  • They are part of the Louisville jazz faculty - Tyrone Wheeler on bass, Jim Connerley on piano, Jason Tiemann on set. Excellent!

  • Greetings from Rahsaan Barber. I'm actually based out of Nashville, TN. I appreciate the kind words. God Bless, Rah

  • Thanks for the correction - sorry! Hope all is well and I hope to hear you play again sometime in the future. ~Jess

  • He's really amazing - he's based out of the Louisville, KY area, but I know he's an alum of Indiana Univ. Definitely check him out if you ever get a chance!

  • Very nice. Antonio is always smoking but I don't know this young man on tenor. Very, very nice!
