w12 is not a tdi, but the petrol engine (6000cc, 450 hp), the same as the one on phaeton w12 and audi a8 6.0 ... the V12 TDI that is available for Q7, is not available for touareg (at least for now)

You are right and wrong. A TRUE W-engine has two crankshafts joined by a common gear, as such in the true H engines, U engines, ect... But the VW engines are not "true" W's. They are two VR-series engines, which consequently are not V engines but more staggered inline engines (each piston/con rod has its own crank pin and only has one bank), joined together in a vee pattern. For example, the VW W-12 is to VR-6 engine banks joined to a common crankshaft as such two inline engines would.
