  • This is the remix from a dear departed friend and collaborator, Robert Racic. Check out Retread..the remix has a detuned voice saying "Vulva" (Robert's sister) and yet another of his little in-mix jokes that never failed to make me laugh. From 3"10 you can hear it!

  • radical clip ..

  • Australia > Ibiza

  • Severed heads were just another great aussie band ignored by the same crap radio stations pumping out crap in Sydney today thank christ for JJJ

  • New FHU Release and Video:

    youtube.com/watch?v=eSyqtzwrCJg

  • Yay! It's Severed Heads!

  • All the way to the bottom, Maggie. You made it. :(

  • I have the 12 inch record (single) of this... Fuckin awesome! I bought it at a record shop on melrose. I'll play it at a dance party whenever I want to hear something worthwhile. Infectious groove! There are a very few dance songs out there that stand on their own, don't need to add or take anything away from them... just complete, just perfect!

  • I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS ON YOUTUBE!i grew up with this! -I LOVE IT!

  • <3 masking with a passion

  • Thanks Beyondthed. Good to know! :)

  • This stuff rules. Ellard and co. could really make great dance music. I gathered he didn't want to be pigeonholed into becoming a dance band -- or a Skinny Puppy band -- then you don't make the Dance Top 10 either because you're still too weird. Sevs are different. They're not Moev or TMC. It's just a little college weirdo rock!. Make them listen to "Quest for Oom Pah Pah. They'll go insane! I'm a fan of weird and being weird, so I love Sevs!

  • I totally love this!! ;-)

  • Yes It Is From Rotund For Success...A Masterpiece!

  • @SweetSweetWaldo

    INTERESTING.

  • how do u make the visuals in this music video? i love it!!!

  • yeah, these 'guys' were on nettwerk records out of vancouver (at least on this side of the pond). silly me thinking i would find more of this kind of stuff when i moved to vancouver!

  • This version is the "Mini Mix" from the Big Car Remix single with the pineapple on the cover. It's also known as the 3AM Vocal from the Twister+Retread compilation.

  • Seen this on Teletunes 1990.

  • i like.

  • :-D

  • This really is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Tom Elleard is a genius!

  • Here's a better way of putting it... more Oceana

  • But I remember a different video, seen on MTV Europe's Party Zone at the end of 1991.

It had no vocals, and the music was more catchy than this one, although very similar.

Any idea anyone? How is that version called?

  • @xelha24 I think that the version of which you're thinking is on YouTube. Just search for "Severed Heads Big Car", and pick the one that isn't this version. :)

  • Thanks! The other one on YouTube is just the version I was looking for! :-)

  • Thanks for posting. Very underated song from the early 1990s.

  • one of the few bands that made the transition from 80's to 90's dance music and weren't rightfully stoned to death. this song is simply awesome, the chorus is delicious and the punctuation (samples) is the cherry on top.

  • Suddenly....

    I am Rotund with Success

  • I love them

  • some day when i can get married to my lover I will play this- shine a light on me

i love severed heads so much

I'm ripping come visit the big bigot with dead eyes opened right now lol

truely they have always been my band

  • Well...Prisoner (Cell Block H) was great, too. Happy now?

Any of you folks talk to Bea or Rita?

  • @ringspun01 What about S.P.K.? ;))

  • @worshipper777 SPK are wonderful too, but much more raw industrial than most SH catalogue. And what about Rip Van Hippy or Shaolin Wooden Men? Australia rules.

  • ah yes... pure bliss ;) love it!

  • What a good song, I wished they had played this at my U back then. I have the 12" Petrol, never knew they were still around in 90's. Also, had (and lost) "Since the Accident"(?) That was scary stuff as I remember.

  • i loovvve this song my friend Chip and i used to catch this on 120 Mins (mtv)) and at a club in Chapel Hill when we were in college. i wish i could also find 'greater reward'.

  • This version has eluded me for about 18 yrs since i never realized the name of the song and did not know the original was on rotund for success. is there any way to get this version at all on cd or mp3?

  • This is the Big Car remix, a single released in 1990, after Rotund. It is available on the Retread compilation, available from the bands' website. Google Severed Heads.

  • No, this isn't the version on Rotund for Success. There was a Big Car Intro about 2:29 long, with a sample of a girl screaming from a movie I'm trying to identify.

  • Dark cobwebbed corners of my mind are telling me it's Elizabeth Taylor. Googling tells me she played a 'Maggie' in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but i've never read/seen that, so I don't know if that fits in.

Someone more cultured than me can confirm/deny.

  • ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM MAGGIE, YOU MADE IT! AAAIEEE! It is certainly Barbara Feldon. I think it's from an episode of "McMillan and Wife." However, Tom Ellard insists it's from "Ironsides," he should know, it's his sample. Yet, I can find no credit for Feldon appearing on "Ironsides," but she did play a "Maggie Miller" on "McMillan" in the "Freefall to Terror" episode from 1973. I've never seen the episode so I can't say for 100%.

  • Where did the version of this song appear? I think this was on Rotund For Success, but doesn't sound like I remember it? Tom on the little car is classic though! Good find. :)

  • The version on the album is different not as 90's house sounding as the video version. (this version reminds me of Information Society)

  • @DungeonStudio "Mini Mix" on Discogs, release #638230

  • @DungeonStudio it MIGHT be on the "Retread" EP which came out in 1991 from memory... I'm not home right now so I can't check.

  • @DungeonStudio It's not the "Rotund For Success" album version - this video song is off of a three-song EP, Severed Heads' "Big Car EP", released in 1990. The version above is called "Big Car (Limo Mix)", the second (and shortest) of the three songs on the disc. I've had this on CD for years; let me know if you want it, and I'll forward you the MP3 files.

  • @howmer001 Appreciate it. But I got so much Heads stuff as it is, I think I'm good for now. :)

Might get back to you on that though. Thanks again.

  • @DungeonStudio its on a remix CD with this version and a few others
