While i agree that Sue Braadford is an idiot...i also feel sorry for your children, if you consider then "your property" ...Children are people. Not Property.
Sue Bradford and Helen Clark are nothing but busy body commie dykes.. Keep out of my private life you commie bitches!!! I'll raise my OWN offspring 100% AS I SEE FIT, they are MY property, NOT the property of your state! Thank god Bradford and Coddington have left politics, two commie hatchet faced feminazi bitches LESS in parliament!
headlessrd, I respect your right to an opinion, but please, I need you to realize that I was not being frivolous when I mentioned MMP's purpose. It was designed by the allies after WW2 to destabilize Germany and Italy and prevent them from ever again rising to power by using statistics to over-prioritize radical and minority views. FPP is raw democracy in it's most unadulterated form. Also, I don't know what polls you get your stats from, but they sure as heck ain't accurate! VOTE NO!
Aotearoastu, Sue Bradford was nothing more than a list MP who was NEVER voted in to government. She only ever got in as a statistical quirk of the MMP system, a system that was DESIGNED to cause political instability to keep societies down-trodden and oppressed after WW2. She has no respect for the opinion of the public, and no respect for the very concept of democracy. Her bill is widely regarded as poorly written trash, and only serves to punish everyday parents, not criminals. VOTE NO!!!
FPP was specifically designed not to represent the majority,
MMP allows proportional representation so everyone is represented in parliament.
Barnardos, Plunket, Unicef, Save the Children and 70 other NGOs all support the amendment and a YES VOTE in the upcoming referendum.
Latest polls show 30% were against the law change and no parent has so far been prosecuted for smacking a kid, and now kids have equal rights ti you or i.
"So WTF are we to do when the child strikes the parent?"
Okay lets over turn the bill so the parent can strike back! Yeah that would be better. Kids hitting parents, and parents hitting kids.
I have a son who has never hit me and I don't hit him. It really doesn't seem to be that hard. If your kid is hitting you hitting them back is not going to fix the problem.
yeah, but you're missing the point aotearoastu. Smacking isn't the same as hitting; that's why we have a different word for it. Some parents do need a backstop - when timeout, treats-removal, etc have failed, they can give their child a smack, using reasonable force - in the circumstances, of course. And no loving parent enjoys it - they do it because they love their children.
I'm afraid you're missing the point. For a start it's called the Prevention of Violence Against Children not the Anti Smacking Bill. And it's not aimed at parents like you who don't abuse their kids. You have discression when it comes to how much force to use against a child. Plenty of others don't. The bill is aimed at them. You can't hit adults either in case you didn't realise but if I gave my 26yr old brother a slap on the head I'm not going be put in jail.
If you smack your childs bottom you're not going to jail. If you go to town on you're kid with a jug cord you will. The bill was never designed to make good parents like you into criminals even though scare mongerers would have you believe that it was. And yes unfortunately there have been cases of people over reacting when they see a child getting a smack or a flick on the ear, but after a while people will settle down.
Play the whole interview, taking little bits out like this is just bullshit, she has said all along that that would you take someone to court for smacking you?...NO, But if they gave you a really good whack you would, and kids should have those same rights!!
You ignorant fool, National voted the bill in as well. And made a special amendment so that police could use their discretion so that good parents who gave their child a smack wouldn't end up as criminals.
The point of a democracy is that you vote for politicians who make decisions for us in parliament. A majority of the MPs in parliament voted for the bill and thats how it got passed. Since National got in they've done plenty of things I don't agree with but thats life. Thats democracy. Does that make sense? Can you understand that? If Sue Bradford is such a stupid bitch you're welcome to stand for parliament and do a better job but you won't. You'll just bitch and winge.
Well done Sue and 11 year old is now this countries second youngest murder, who's next...........
