  • Hahaha "I want a man who picks those tempos"

Basie & Ella were SO made for each other. If you ever wanted to hear an argument for "Intelligent Design", this is it!!

    :D

  • Wait, no.... That is Cleve, not whoever the intro said it was.

  • @theinvisiblelight It doesn't mention Cleve in the credits, but it is hiim... There is a segment where he is , when the "Kansas City 5" do thier thing see the whole special .. it was PBS produced and a studio performance, there are still several alternate takes from this yet to be released..

  • 2 pros giving a lesson on how its done! what else can I say!! the way they listen and respond!!!!!!!!! wow.

  • Thanks sooooo much for posting this!!!!!! Incredible!

  • @OneLiddleBird Thanks so much for enjoying it!

  • God, she's good! Always seems like she's loving what she's doing and gets totally into it.

  • Favolosa! Ella sarà sempre Ella.

  • la formazione esatta è: Count; Ella; Cleaveland Eaton al contrabbasso, Duffy Jackson alla batteria.

  • Pure chemistry between these two giants... Pure love too...

  • I'm Speechless... Simply beautiful!

¡Qué música tan hermosa y qué músicos grandes!

  • I'm speechless... Simply beautiful! ¡Que música tan hermosa y que músicos grandes!

  • btw. Awesome to see Count basie in action together with Ella. 5*

  • Mickey Roker, is also, not here.

  • That's because Mickey was not Basie's drummer...Mickey was with Ella's trio normally Bobby Durham would play drums...

  • Used to be Ed Thigpen, Bobby Durham, then, Mickey Roker (involved in drugs with "Little Esther Phillips," which contributed with their deaths. It was only, after that Ella was aware of the drugs, that fired Mickey and brought Bobby back ointo the Tommy Flanagan Trio. Ed Thigpen, currently lives in Copenhagen and conducts private Jazz Symposiums, as well as, touring Europe..

  • Yep, met Mister Ed Thigpen in Europe a few years ago and grabbed this rare oppertunity to ask a lot of questions too. He was extremely kind and told stories about the days of wayback with Ella and demonstrated some awesome techniques on the drums. I videotaped it all (I had a camera with me because I was on my way to my longtime hero Max Roach) and can honestly say that he is among the greatest ever to touch the drums!

  • That is NOT Keter Betts on bass!!!!

  • The bassist here is Cleveland Eaton ..He's got a good style....Keter is on with the trio on the show., just not this segment....

  • Kinda biased. I have known Keter since 1969. As a matter fact, Ella was my late son's Godmother, and we both flew to BH to see her when she "passed away." Keter lived in Silver Springs, MD, and I only lived 15 miles from there. When Keter's daughter called and gave me "news"..was, and still DEVASTATED.

Ella, was my late son's Godmother.....he "worshipped the ground that she walked on".

  • Sorry to hear about your son...I met Keter in 1986 when Ella performed in at Great Woods in Mansield....great concert and after meeting Keter was awesome...he even signed my album...How's Jenn Betts doing? Not for nothing the point of that set at the top was to use Basie's trio as apposed to Ella's because it was a duet with Basie...BUT there are lovely moments like the Ellington Songbook segment with Keter and Mickey and Paul Smith...

  • Are you talking about "Pinky"? She was the world to him. She was such a warm person. Keter was devastated about her "leaving." Stll convinced, that, is one of the reasons for his early demise. Are you talking about Mansfield OH, or LA.?

  • Mansfield, Massachusetts. and Pinky was on my MySpace for a long time, I have a new MySpace and I guess she's been busy...at some point I wager she'll add me again.

  • Newstart, if you read my last posting, explained that "Pinky" passed away several years ago.

  • Oh wait i was talking about Jennifer Betts how is she??? I forgot Keter's wife's nickname was Pinky blonde moment i guess.

  • Jennifer is doing fine, thanks to the fact that Keter took care of her, very well. Haven't talked to Jennifer, for quite a while.

  • she was on my MySpace until I made a new account . Been trying to add her again for months now..She must be busy etc....

  • Hi David, thanks for posting this superb Show. Love your idea of celebrating " Ella Birthday Week". For my contribution I've just uploaded 2 clips from the part of this show she did with the Paul Smith Trio. Both clips in DVD quality. Happy Birthday Ella!!!

  • I loved how right after she sang the head on one o'clock jump she sang I don't know where I'm going, then let loose on this awesome run.... wow.

  • Here she is 62 years old..and she's also having fun with Basie...I love their interaction

  • There are several parts AND I'm doing it in order...she sings with just Joe Pass on "Am I Blue" and then the intro , then Count Basie and her, then the Basie Band etc....Better make a playlist when it's complete lol there are many parts

  • Yep, never mind.:)

    I just saw part one.LOL

  • Thank you!!

    I have to create a new playlist...wait...

This is the intro, isn't it?

Are you sure this is part 2?
