Winning what general Westmoreland called "the hearts and minds" of the local population is the difference between success and defeat. The Taliban inflict far more civilian casualties than America and it's allies, not only via haphazardly placed IEDs, but using civilians as cover and executing those who support the US.

The Taliban to cause far more casualties. Coalition forces take great care to not inflict civilian casualties. By using laser and GPS guided weapons, restricting air strikes to instances in which they are really necessary, and requiring that targets be identified by ground forces, they can avoid them easier than the Taliban.

An unconventional war such as this is often determined by the civilian population. Without their support, an insurgency cannot operate efficiently. Right now a large majority of civilians generally approve of the Coalition's intentions and efforts. A larger percentage support neither side than support the Taliban.

I have just returned from Marjah. It is not all that mountainous as you can see from other Marjah videos. This pig faced son of a whore student is not fighting for his country he is sitting in England pontificating about things he has never seen. Civilian deaths? Define civilian. I have never killed or captured a Taliban who was in uniform or had a Taliban ID. The locals are scared and fearful of our withdrawal. I'll also note that the Taliban have inflicted far more civilian casualties than the NATO forces - suicide bombing, human shields, IEDs etc. on civilian-dense areas may as well be just as deadly (if not more) than NATO air strikes.

All you people really have no idea what so ever of what happened at Marjah. You leave your comments and your opinionated facts but still have no idea. There were no civilian casualties at all the first week, only for the fact that when we landed in birds, we knew that anyone we saw was that infact Talib. just a couple of points here, the file photo is a bad representation of the terrain in marjah , marjah is a very flat open area weith mountain ranges to the north , the fighting was in intense during the first month of the offensive dieing down to intermitent ied attacks, and heating up to intense firefights everyday during the warmer months and the summer time. Also as far as civillian casualties , they happen and are an unfortunate occurrence and an awful set back for relations between forces

We have laser and GPS guided munitions and highly trained soldiers and Marines that really care about the civilian population; the Taliban have IEDs; many of which are activated by pressure plates. They can't even tell the difference between a civilian and a man with a gun. Did you know that before a target is engaged by an aircraft, it must be positively identified my men on the ground? By the way, last time I checked, IED attack were pretty cowardly.

Winning what general Westmoreland called "the hearts and minds" of the local population is the difference between success and defeat. The Taliban inflict far more civilian casualties than America and it's allies, not only via haphazardly placed IEDs, but using civilians as cover and executing those who support the US.

The Taliban to cause far more casualties. Coalition forces take great care to not inflict civilian casualties. By using laser and GPS guided weapons, restricting air strikes to instances in which they are really necessary, and requiring that targets be identified by ground forces, they can avoid them easier than the Taliban.

I have just returned from Marjah. It is not all that mountainous as you can see from other Marjah videos. This pig faced son of a whore student is not fighting for his country he is sitting in England pontificating about things he has never seen. Civilian deaths? Define civilian. I have never killed or captured a Taliban who was in uniform or had a Taliban ID. The locals are scared and fearful of our withdrawal. They are also racial, religious, cultural, tribal and ethnic bigots.

You said Afghanistan had been harboring terrorists and insurgents for thousands of years, but this phenomenon with Al-Qaeda only started in the mid 80es.
Plus the people fighting NATO back isn't arabs or outlanders, its regular Afghans.

@GrimmjowProduction Al-Qaeda didn't exist until the LATE 80s. Do also note that Afghans only comprise a third of the Taliban's fighting strength - the rest are either Pakistanis or from elsewhere. I'll also note that the Taliban have inflicted far more civilian casualties than the NATO forces - suicide bombing, human shields, IEDs etc. on civilian-dense areas may as well be just as deadly (if not more) than NATO air strikes.

And no, Taliban is largely made of Afghan refugees who fled to Pakistan during the Afghan-Soviet war.

@GrimmjowProduction From your logic, then I might as well say that the Waffen-SS consisted largely of Germans throughout all of WW2 or that the French Union forces in Vietnam were largely German veterans. If it was largely of Afghans, then tell me why they're so enthusiastically fighting against the Pakistani military. The Taliban DO use Pakistan as a source of manpower and resources, partly thanks to elements within the ISI.

When NATO drops Jdams that shit ranges between 250-500 and 1000 pounds and blow up whole compounds and villages with families in them, deffinetly far more deadly.

whats weird in this war is us and coalition forces will take over areas then leave and then the militias return. So in some ways the war appears to be a war of attrition not to actually win. If this is true their is definetly something of value that they do not want to leave from Afghanistan. Which so far looks to be the poppey fields.

OK There are multiple stories about it. First as I mentioned before. Secondly yours. Thirdly by the interruption of ISI by encouragement of other secret servis from Mossad, CIA and others.
