Do you know if he is aggressive to other rats?

Nurturing may help. it really depends.

He may be just an agressive rat, not very common, but can happen.

Also, he could be agressive because he has not got a cage mate.

The best thing to do is get him fixed, them possibly a girl rat. As a cage mate. if tha doesnt work, take the girl rat back to the store, or your male, what ever works.

He might need lots of training, which could result in alot of bites too

Rats will chase string, too, like cats.

You just have to move the string slowly, though, because their eye-sight is pretty poor (especially compared to cats).

They play so nicely with it lol. Mine are very "snatchy" with the cat toy lol, they're really gentle rats but something comes over them when you put a cat toy in front of them lol
