I need to know if the Makaton is used in Israel as well please. My hubby and I want to go to Israel and we have a 5 year old autistic daughter. Any help you can give me on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks, Antoinette (abpearce100 (@) gmail . com)
This is the central prayer in Judaism, that is recited many times daily, referring to the the ways we are meant to physically remind ourselves of our faith and our commandments.
"You shall wear a sign upon your hand, and we shall have them (commandments) as a reminder in front of your eyes"
referring to Tefillin (you can google that).
"You should write them on 'mezuzot' on your home and at your gates"
Thanks - we are a special needs school in London and we loved watching this in our RE lessons. Thank you for a wonderful resource which shows the spirituality of young people with special needs.
Beautiful job little M! My 9 y/o son has Downs, and we also rely on ASL for clarification when his receptive or expressive language needs a boost. Thank you for sharing. You made me smile.
I work with special needs and teach at the hebrew school in Belfast , this is my fav clip on e.bay and I am looking forwrd to the clip of M doing his Bar Mitzva in Makaton , B"h .
This video is amazing, such a blessing to me.... thank you for sharing something so intimate with us, only wish it were longer. I'll simply play it more often.

Your little boy is adorable!! :-D you can see that a couple more goes and he'd probably sign the whole lot that was ace for his first try and only being 2! I've never seen signing used for things like prayer. well cool!
He's a year older now and knows it all the way through, though he still tends just to say the last syllable of each word, his signing is pretty good.

Hi Jeremy,
Great to have your feedback that you've used my Makaton Shema in helping Jewish children you work with who have mental handicap.
So glad to hear that you've been able to use it to sign with the Shema with some of your kids.
That is my hope that it will be used.
Best wishes
Jonathan
