seriously...lets say the first hand position explained around 2:25 ALWAYS says that someone is terrified, this emotion that is revealed could also mean they are afraid to make mistakes when teling the not so true story they thought of the night before.... i believe that you can get a lot out of body language but dont get into details like the position of someones fingers, its impossible to make universally valid conclusions that way thats ridiculous! instead look for posture or face expression=)

The hard part is determining baseline behavior. One non-verbal cue may just be normal for one person to exhibit, but people may interpret it as a sign of deceit, anxiety etc.

This is mis-information!! Jan believes what she is saying but the fact is that you Cannot interpret movements without BASELINING someone or undertanding their normal behavior. Just like a lie detector asks at begining of pollygraph. The hand together when sworn is is NOT an indicator of lying or potential to lie. Each person does things differently and that is their NORM and its when they deviate from that which May be an indicator of lying!

You can tell she doesn't know what she's talking about (but likes to think she does) because she misuses the famous 55-38-7 statistic from Mehrabian. It's the most common mistake by people who don't actually know the research (just pay it lip service).

Those statistics refer to the communication of LIKING, not communication in general. Plus, the study only included images of the face (no body) and it only involved females. She'd know that if she were a real "expert."

pretty amazing stuff i want to know more of this! What does it mean when somebody, when questioned suddenly changes position on the chair, is that a lie too whe he/she answers?

Typically movements would depend on how the person has moved in the chair and other clues they are giving out..i.e..hand positioning, leg position, fidgeting, are the arms crossed or open? Looking for other signs to collaborate with the chair movement will give you a better conclusion if the person is lying or not. With someone just moving in a chair alone I wouldn't see this as they are automatically lying to me, but possibly a red flag that they might.
