  • Depends how quickly the repeated notes come at you. You can use bellows pressure, swap bellows direction, finger the button twice ... OR ... learn to play the repetition by swapping 2 fingers repeatedly on the same button. It's fiddly, and takes lots of practice, but gets better results. Is that helpful?

  • Big question for me, how do you articulate two notes of the same pitch? You can't exactly tongue the reeds lol

  • Do you have any showpiece items you've done on English concertina we could see (not vital, just nice. You're already doing a great job. Maybe even a recording of what you play when you're with mates at the pub or something. )This YouTube is starting a majestic revolution in do-it-yourself education, I love it! So helpful to see someone doing it. Be sure to show your hands so we can see what you're doing. I peer anxiously when it's out of the frame. Regards, Bruce Thomson, New Zealand.

  • Hi Martin, I'm up to day ten of my learning, with some help from your video, thanks. Suggestion: It's much easier doing the scale if you discover that the pattern is a symmetrical zig-zag, alternating between the inner two columns (index finger), and the outer two columns (using middle finger). I actually drew a picture of the zig-zag - it helped me a lot by visually showing what my fingers were doing spatially. The learning was then far less 'guessy'. Bruce Thomson, Palmerston North, NZ

  • nice haircut!!

  • Thanks for the videos and information/lessons. I should (hopefully) received my new Jackie in the Post soon. I plan to use your videos to help me learn to play. I'm mostly interested in Morris and English Country Dance music right now. Hopefully my experience on guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and fiddle will help me learn the English Concertina. Any suggestions? Thanks! Mike in El Segundo, California.

  • Great to hear someone's planning to play Morris Tunes!!! They're some of the finest tunes we have but are often sneered at for some reason :( You'll do fine and learn quickly!!

  • @mccypr

did you get it on the HMT catalog website?

    the Jackie 30 button?

  • Martyn, you clearly have too much time on your hands!

Anyway, you use it generously passing on these pearls of wisdom. You should be making money out of this.

    Thank you, and good wishes.

    Colin.
