@WoWintosh Hey buddy. I'm the guy in the video. I think it's mostly the beauty coupled with how difficult it is to get. The spalt is a mineral deposit caused from wet wood that's been sitting for many years. The wood is very fragile until its treated. It's a bright sounding wood and works fairly well for guitar tone. It's not my first choice for tone but good pick ups add alot. I still own PRS guitars but the Quicksilver has really great action. The EVH Wolfgangs (lefties) are it tho.
Call him and he WILL tell you that your guitar is a piece of shit and that all the guitar brands suck except for his rip off brands. His wannabe Ibanez are equal or less than the Ibanez GIO. He makes rip offs of IBANEZ, PRS, B.C. Rich And wayyyyy more. APPROVE THIS COMMENT
Stop copying your stupid comment on every Ed Roman related video on youtube. The guy may be a little overzealous at times but that does not change the fact that he makes some quality instruments.
FINALLY someone who feels the same way. I think (assuming you're a fellow righty) that it's because we can't relate to their playing, their feel, etc.
i like your tone. i am interested in quicksilver guitars, and am wondering what kind of tonewoods you selected? it looks like you have a spalted or burl maple top, but what is the body and neck?
@DJglasgowSon The top is spalted and quilted maple, back is black Corina. the neck is birds eye maple. Ebony fret board. Pickups are Duncan Black Backs. Since I didn't put a tail piece on it the guitar holds it's tuning incredibly well. And at that time I was playing very hard. I was also playing directly into the amp. No boxes.
thanks for the info man. i am thinking about getting one of rome's katana body shape axes... scott from their shop had my cost around that, can't wait!
@DJglasgowSon You'll have a one of a kind custom built guitar tailored to your liking that you'll love. No guarantees on what the resale might be opposed to a PRS for instance. I've seen some used Quicksilvers listed around 3 but probably not worth selling once you get it. (Not that you'd want to)
the resale would probably be limited to the value of the individual parts and the quality of the workmanship. and, yeah, i wouldn't sell something that tailor made to my taste, as i've spent literally years trying different woods, pickups, nuts, frets, etc. to find my dream axe, until finally realizing it wasn't available in mass production.
i hate when people bash Ed for telling it like it is. Hes a master of his trade and as soon as i get enough money im gonna buy one of his kickass guitars
@metalfiend124 This is me playing the Quicksilver in the video and I can tell you it's a pretty amazing guitar. I don't use it now since I switched over to an Ibanez Jem but still regard it as the nicest playing guitar I've ever had
Got a hand made Explorer (Wonderer) being shipped to me as we speak. Called Gibson custom and ask them if they could put a Floyd Rose in one and all I got was BS. Ed Roman had no problem building what I wanted. I now only do business with him. Goodby Gibson.
@Carrotwaffle Ed says they start at $1,200 to $1,500 now, but the maple top can be $500, inlays can be $100 to $400 to $5,000, it just depends on how much you want to spend on the options. 40 different kinds of wood, etc.
I have an Ed Roman built Quicksilver. Much better version of the PRS. Most can't afford that level of high quality. I am not most people. Live with it.
I worked with Buck, and his favorite guitar that i remember him loving the most was a guitar he found in a pawn shop we called the swiss cheese guitar. I asked him about the stuff Ed makes and he siad it was incredible stuff. Buck would know quality!
File a complaint with the Nevada Consumer Affairs Division (get the forms on line). include all emails, recorded telephone calls and photographs. Time to expose the ?King?
@Destructopodx He doesn't advertise much, and doesn't get endorsements like Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Slash, Clapton, Van Halen, I just hope the guitars are good, though.
too real too funny and touche' Ed is an over rated ass. I have one of his creations and it's going to cost me a small fortune to make it an ok guitar. Man I wish I had never heard his name. I call him Grimace McRoman he sells Sappy Meals and super sizes his list of haters.
@ManTurds What were your problems with his guitar? Was the intonation ok? Did it buzz? Were the mechanical parts, pots and knobs installed ok? Did it sound good fundamentally? What had to be fixed on yours? Does it sound good enough now that it is fixed? I've heard some bad things sometimes when people first get one of his guitars.
@metalfiend124 I had no problems. I did have to get a fret job since I wore the frets out. It has great action and feel. I can see where some people say the tone is generic. It doesn't have a distinctive sound like a strat or a les paul but it does sound great. Currently I like my Jem's tone better for the metal sound.
They really are great guitars, but Ed Roman is a total douche bag. My only complaint with mine is it was quite overpriced. I should've bought a strat and a les paul for what I paid for mine. It would've been a much better use of the money.
@fastone022 Did you get a lot of cosmetic options that bumped up the price like maple top, inlays, binding, etc? Romans seem to look better than Gibsons, Fenders and seem to have way more options. How did your Roman sound compared to a Les Paul and strat?

Despite Ed's hype you would be much better off with any of the trusted guitar makes...
Ed roman is guilty of everything he accuses the competition of..
And yeah an SG or a Les Paul has ton's more character in it's sound than one of Ed's guitars...
Otherwise if their so great why isn't every guitar player in the world playing em...?
Even the stars he's built guitars for never use em live...
No disrespect to this guys playing or anything but it's probably because they sound a bit bland like this..
