If we really want to join the 21st century then we ought to be investing in our national rail network. Having to use a car to get from A to B as the only way around is outdated and has been perpetuated since the 1950s. We need to move beyond that.
Finally! Maybe people will stop being killed on the dangerous State Roads when they drive from Evansville to Bloomington. This is the best idea that has come to Indiana in a long time, other than the light rail industry back in the 1940s. Before you open your big mouth about me being some sort of Environmental Hitler, perhaps you should see the benefits of this Interstate. I expect my comment to met with serious repression.
The route was decided in 1955, not 2005. Anything built on the route since then risked being taken. Folks who already lived along the route and family farms that will be split up or ruined over this do have my sympathies, but more recent construction was always a crap shoot. And they lost. My neighbors will suffer the loss of a very productive grain farm. Others will certainly gain in the economic boon. Most of the route is through low economic production zones (even for Indiana).
proven fact: I-69 will save 2 minutes of travel from Indianapolis to Evansville. 2 MINUTES!! I am VERY opposed to the construction I-69, part of it is because I am directly on the route. The rest of it is because I have lived here my entire life. I like the country that we have out here. With I-69, everyone will go right by at 70 or 75 MPH. The faster you drive, the more gas you burn, and the more pollution you emit. Distance has nothing to do with it if speed increases
Have you ever driven on highway 41, I guess not or you would be awhere of the dozens of stoplights located on the route from evansville to Terre Haute. I wonder where you get your proven fact about the 2 MINUTES, because you contradict this proven fact when you claim people will drive faster going a shorter distance on I-69. I suppose that back in the 1950's you would have opposed the construction of the interstate highway system, maybe we should go back to travelling on wagon trails.
the distance will remain about the same. it will go due north from evansville to the Daviess/Greene County line, where it will go northeast to Bloomington, and then continue parallel to 37 until Indinapolis. Where it will be signed with 465 until I-69.
All the interstate system was designed for back in the 1950s was a quick way to move troops. initially, they were going to have it as military only. they decided against it.
I live on 231 and it does not go through Evansville, it takes at least an half hour to get from the east side of Evansville to 231. Also when I go to Indy I use 231, If you obey the speed limit you might average 50 mph, the speed limit on an interstate is 70. I really do not care if they build the road or not, but I have a keen interest in mathematics and statistics and it bothers me when someone makes a statement that is so blatantly incorrect just to further their argument.
2 Minutes you have no idea what you are talking about. I drive 41 form Indianapolis twice a month and I cant wait for the new road. The people I talk to in Evansville are also excited about it.

Just got an email from inside indiana 'hailing' the start of the expansion of I-69 for our 'economic benefit'. I wrote them and told them they are full of crap.
this is a way to take al;l your freedoms away look at the fema camp thay are for us if we dont go along with the new world order stand up and fight this is a must fight now becose we might not have a chance later
are you that ignorant it will mean that american trucker will lose jobs to mexican truckers, this highway is part of an idea that has been put in place to have a highway from mexico to canada. it would be impossible to know who is driving. your rights are being attacked. wake up people and fight back.
you are correct in a way that americas old way of leaving will change but mexican truckers wont take the jobs it just means that you will have to share and compete jobs with them because the value of peso and dollar will be the same. NAFTA highway means AMERO
I have mixed feelings on this. I think a direct route is better for practicality, but I was really hoping they'd use 41 at least through Evansville to get rid of the stoplights. That would greatly improve my commute to work.
Do you have any idea where the bridge is supposed to be? I'm concerned about Audubon park in Henderson.

I-69 extended from Indianapolis to Nashville would be ideal for Peyton Manning.

Hey genius, if they build I-69 people will have a shorter route to travel and will use less gas and emit less pollution. Join the 21st century.

What does that mean? Should we destroy all trees, and farmland to pay homage to trucks moving goods into the midwest from China?

Dear God why did they have to start in Indiana... I'd put money on the fact that is going to be part of the NAFTA "super highway".
I got a bad feeling about this.
