This was the birth of mmo rpgs. The one that started it all. The feelings and excitement of entering a fresh new world like this can never be repeated. No one knew what to expect, and that in itself is what made it all so magical. No story lines, no quests... just the open environment... and the blissfulness of it all.

My first MMO. Many hours and memories I can recall hearing this song. I was little kid when I first played this game and it's something I'll never forget. It's an experience i'll carry with me for life. I had many fun times, I met so many people and made many friends, and I still think about them to this day, hoping their lives are going well. The ultima series in general, even now, 25 years after it came out, I still count as one of the best games of all time. Only recently with Elder scrolls oblivion and Skyrim has any game come close to touching the sheer greatness that is Ultima.

I miss Deceit "bone wall" with 10 butcher's knives and 10 other people raising melee, a decent drop here and there, and PK bombardment every 30 or 45 min. Then, of course, being the PK group to hit the bone wall :P
This was by far the greatest game. Raiding enemy guild houses, raiding dungeons and running from PKs for fear of losing everything you had. No game will ever be like this. Imagine now if they tried to make a game where dying meant you lost what you had on you....with the hand holding in games these days the game would never last. So sad......This was truly a great game

I remember putting stuff in bags and hide them behind trees so I can pick up with another character.
I remember the first day on Official Atlantic, server glitched and skill increase rate were like 100%, i got from 20% magic resist to 97% in 1 min. I was practically immune to magic attacks. 10 cor por = 20points of damage, lol to pks.

I lost years of my life to this game. If there is a heaven, its getting to play again from day one with the same sense of wonder this game brought me the first time through.
I don't understand why so many UO veterans say Renaissance ruined UO, the sad truth is that UO reached its highest population peak when Renaissance came out. The majority of players did not like spending hours fighting in dungeons etc. just to be killed by a player that was too lazy to fight for their own loot. What Killed UO was Age of Shadows, that's when the majority of people quit.
ugh, such a great game, so sad UO2 was scrapped, it would have been epic. Still today darkfall is the closest thing but not really even close, the MMORPG market sucks so bad right now.

Funny... the year before I found out we'd be getting a computer I was at ABCO and they had a table with used books for sale. Among them was a large, white Ultima Online Second Edition game guide. Though we didn't have a computer I'd heard of UO and read about it, and desperately wished I could play it. I bought the guide just incase we got a computer, and read that book from start to finish... then early the next year I found out we were getting a computer... bought UO before we even got it here
Almost hurts to listen to this song. Played UO, on Pacific as Casyle Deagwa, from Feb. '98 to approx. 2001'ish, a bit after the shards split. Listening to this song reminds me... getting up at 5am in the morning and rushing into the computer room, shaking and freezing, listening to the hum of the computer as my dial-up connected, and then this song as I got ready to play. Sometimes I'd just sit and listen for a bit...
Aaaaaaaah this brings me back. A little nostalgia for my snake infested rune-linked island house ( with the infamous lie 'Cheap swords for sale') . There was no wandering healer and lots of deadly snakes and hideously over-priced anti-venom..... I made a fortune.
mortal online tried to revive the gameplay but its not the same, graphics and nothing else wont bring back what UO was... truly epic, back when people had know idea what they were doing, no macros, nothing, just noobs going around getting owned not knowing what to do, the FIRST AND THE BEST, no wonder people will copy from it till the end
The one thing I did like about the way the game was changed was the custom house design. That was really fun. But other than that, yes, I'd prefer it go back to the old days.
With all the new technology in today's MMO games, none have had the addictive power that Ultima Online did. Crafting, housing, PvP, adventure and the uniqueness of UO still makes it stand out today some 13 years or so later. Should there ever be a day that UO comes back to us in an updated form created by the original people who made UO pre Tram, would be the day that I cancelled every gaming account I own to play this legendary game.
Ever since I first played Ultima 6 on SNES I loved the games. I remember my first time getting UO, seeing my character's name being scrolled on parchment as i bought an item made me giddy. I remember despising Pker's and traveling in large packs of Tamers to destroy pvpers for their heads :P what fun.
Played as Trichinosis on Europa when it first went live. UO and EQ are still the best MMOs ever. WoW cant touch the gameplay in those games. Being able to PK some fool, jack his house key, recall rune, and Kal Ort Por to his house and steal all his stuff was epic. I cant believe they ruined a perfect game with trammel/felucia bullshit

Now thinking about it, I must have start playing before UO:R, as I was only 13 years old when doing so. From then on, I've been playing a list of mmo, EVE, AOE, L2, EQ, AC, WOW, LOTRO etc. etc. but neither had the impact of satisfication as UO did.
From running around, confused, on the streets of Britain, gathering a party with ambitions of passing the crossroads for our destination: the dungeon Shame, then evolving to a more subtle player that gathered resources from mining, which I in turn sold to the blacksmith which I had become acquinted with during the hunting in Shame, bought a house, neon dyed my hair, became 7x GM and finally turning into a rude harassing player killer.

If you want a real oldschool UO experience wait for In Por Ylem 2.0 to come out, anyone who has experience with oldschool freeshards will know IPY, and it's coming back bigger and better... When I played this game, nothing else mattered. Oh, the girlfriend wants to have sex? Not now; A GM just showed up and we're starting a quest. Go back to the kitchen and make me a sammich. If you weren't made to cook, then why do you have milk and eggs inside of you?

you must have forgot about Mr. Bojangles, the guy who had a several million gold bounty on his head for the longest time on Pacific, also one of the greatest PK's in the entire game, and more than likely the greatest on Pac.

My dad actually got into the beta and I remember having so much fun playing this game even though our characters would get wiped every day or so. I played on the pacific server too from 97 til around 2001 as well, sometime shortly after they came out with the veteran account award system, ethereal mounts etc... we might have met eachother, my dads char was DragonKnight and i had characters named DragonKnightJr, Lock, Hak, and Skizzik

I don't understand why so many UO veterans say Renaissance ruined UO, the sad truth is that UO reached its highest population peak when Renaissance came out. The majority of players did not like spending hours fighting in dungeons etc. just to be killed by a player that was too lazy to fight for their own loot. What Killed UO was Age of Shadows, that's when the majority of people quit.

ugh, such a great game, so sad UO2 was scrapped, it would have been epic. Still today darkfall is the closest thing but not really even close, the MMORPG market sucks so bad right now.

Funny... the year before I found out we'd be getting a computer I was at ABCO and they had a table with used books for sale. Among them was a large, white Ultima Online Second Edition game guide. Though we didn't have a computer I'd heard of UO and read about it, and desperately wished I could play it. I bought the guide just incase we got a computer, and read that book from start to finish... then early the next year I found out we were getting a computer... bought UO before we even got it here

Listening to this song reminds me... getting up at 5am in the morning and rushing into the computer room, shaking and freezing, listening to the hum of the computer as my dial-up connected, and then this song as I got ready to play. Sometimes I'd just sit and listen for a bit...

mortal online tried to revive the gameplay but its not the same, graphics and nothing else wont bring back what UO was... truly epic, back when people had know idea what they were doing, no macros, nothing, just noobs going around getting owned not knowing what to do, the FIRST AND THE BEST, no wonder people will copy from it till the end

The one thing I did like about the way the game was changed was the custom house design. That was really fun. But other than that, yes, I'd prefer it go back to the old days.

With all the new technology in today's MMO games, none have had the addictive power that Ultima Online did. Crafting, housing, PvP, adventure and the uniqueness of UO still makes it stand out today some 13 years or so later. Should there ever be a day that UO comes back to us in an updated form created by the original people who made UO pre Tram, would be the day that I cancelled every gaming account I own to play this legendary game.

Ever since I first played Ultima 6 on SNES I loved the games. I remember my first time getting UO, seeing my character's name being scrolled on parchment as i bought an item made me giddy. I remember despising Pker's and traveling in large packs of Tamers to destroy pvpers for their heads :P what fun.

Played as Trichinosis on Europa when it first went live. UO and EQ are still the best MMOs ever. WoW cant touch the gameplay in those games. Being able to PK some fool, jack his house key, recall rune, and Kal Ort Por to his house and steal all his stuff was epic. I cant believe they ruined a perfect game with trammel/felucia bullshit

Now thinking about it, I must have start playing before UO:R, as I was only 13 years old when doing so. I completely quit playing at the age of 19 I believe, so yeah, it was a huge part of my teenage years lol. From then on, I've been playing a list of mmo, EVE, AOE, L2, EQ, AC, WOW, LOTRO etc. etc. but neither had the impact of satisfication as UO did.

I love how I developed in this game though.
From running around, confused, on the streets of Britain, gathering a party with ambitions of passing the crossroads for our destination: the dungeon Shame, then evolving to a more subtle player that gathered resources from mining, which I in turn sold to the blacksmith which I had become acquinted with during the hunting in Shame, bought a house, neon dyed my hair, became 7x GM and finally turning into a rude harassing player killer.

Dont bother... UOGamers is a piece of shit. You will love it for about 5 minutes and then quickly realise it's a clustre fuck. If you want a real oldschool UO experience wait for In Por Ylem 2.0 to come out, anyone who has experience with oldschool freeshards will know IPY, and it's coming back bigger and better... Look it up, THIS ONE you wont regret.

i started playing this game in 97. the fond memories i had. i quit in 2001 when they changed the way pvp was played. uo is no longer what it used to be. this theme really brings back memories. i would just like to say one more thing.... i'm the greatest pvper on the face of uo for my name brings fear and havoc to the faces of all uo citizens. i am the great karen of vesper and minoc from pacific shard, and i own all the dungeons and bucs den.

My dad actually got into the beta and I remember having so much fun playing this game even though our characters would get wiped every day or so. I played on the pacific server too from 97 til around 2001 as well, sometime shortly after they came out with the veteran account award system, ethereal mounts etc... we might have met eachother, my dads char was DragonKnight and i had characters named DragonKnightJr, Lock, Hak, and Skizzik

when i hear this theme, i remember past.forgotten friends,lost guilds,ruined castles and houses,left horses mares,mustangs,fields.ultima online of the past still too precious for me and better than too many games.this theme still makes me cry.why we left sosaria,because of graphics? what about todays game better graphics but just kill kill kill.no rp no daily life no jobs.
