i was in need of a special ocasions perfum, diferent of my everyday YSL L'Homme which i love by the way. I smelled Fleur du Male by JPG and i was like.. wow.. this can be very nice once used in small proporcions. i bought it but now i saw this review and i didnt try this one on sephora.. do u think i should go back to sephora and try this one? i didnt open the box yet...
I was in sephora the other day with my Uncle (The fashonisto of the family) and we found this one. He really liked it and I do, too. A part of me wants to wear it but I's having to work myself into having the.. well, balls.
Hi Katie! I just bought Kenzo Power, and you were right! It's my kind of perfume! It's a sweet, subtle, slightly powdery floral amber. I can see why there are Dior Homme comparisons. I had the same idea when I smelled this. I'm not sure what's in both that makes them similar. Thanks for the advice, Perfume Guru!
I am a big Kenzo Power fan also. I had heard it compared with Dior Homme, but Homme is less likable for me - there is an overwhelming woody ambery note in Homme that ruins the whole thing for me.
have you ever smelled something like bamboo something by kenzo? my bf wears it and I love how it smells on him. i haven't had much luck finding it at a store in the states.
Haven't heard of anything by Kenzo with Bamboo in the name. However, the bottle for Kenzo pour Homme is in the shape of (blue) bamboo. Could that be it?
Hi katie I have a question Im 20 yrs old and i have a sensitive nose and i cant take strong scents i tend to go for floral and sweet scents but i havent found a good one yet do u have any recommendations thats good for a 20 yr old thanks
Another wonderful review Katie! Your Unicorn cameo made me laugh! Speaking about women's fragrances for guys, I read in Luca Turin & Tania Sanchez's book "Perfume: The A-Z Guide" that Estee Lauder White Linen is a fragrance that 'Guys and gals could both wear'. I've smelled it and it's a very comforting, soapy floral. I just don't know if I can pull it off though. I might smell like a bar of high-quality soap. But then again, I'm beginning to find that appealing. Thanks Katie!
Yes, you'd have to have very particular tastes to carry off White Linen. The powderiness might put me off. But Luca T advocates Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere for the lads, and I think that could be successfully executed.
Hahaha! I wonder what particular tastes those may be! =) I smelled No. 5 Eau Premiere and it's lovely! And it's still recognizably No. 5. What are your thoughts on Estee Lauder's Intuition for Men? It seems like an interesting Oriental for men, though I wonder if it's any good. Sorry Katie, I'm in "Let's-Explore-Estee-Lauder" mode. =)
i like the bottle haha. i'll go shopping around some perfume counters when i get home :P really need a new scent, and a light one would be great. especially since i'm planning to get black orchid hahaha
on a side note, what are some other "women's" fragrances that would smell good on a guy? i'd like to explore some more possibilities. just some off the top of your head would be great :D
Women's fragrances for guys to try: Bulgari Jasmine Noir Estée Lauder Youth Dew Amber Nude Gres Cabaret Lolita Lempicka Hermès Eau des Merveilles Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess YSL Elle Gucci by Gucci for Women EdP Stella McCartney Stella Christian Dior Diorella Prada Infusion d'Iris And then in the niche category, pretty much anything goes, with both sexes trying everything, but these two are especial faves of my Perfume Pen Pal Dan from my blog: Chanel Coromandel By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuse
Lots of focus and experience & repetition. I make sure my nose is always "on" - & not just when I'm smelling fragrances. Food smells, nature smells, good smells, bad smells - I pay attention to them all, & mentally catalogue them. I call it having a "conscious nose". Smelling single note aromatherapy oils at health food is a great way to identify more obscure scents like myrrh or juniper, for instance. & lots of ordinary kitchen spices pop up in perfume: cinnamon, cumin, cardamom, pepper, etc.
This is really interesting. Maybe I do something similar, but not all of the time...I am going to see if I can practice having a conscious nose. Thanks, Katie!
I must try this! I have just begun to explore the Kenzo line with Flower Oriental. Love your reviews. It is nice to hear someone's tone and inflection--even humor--when delivering an opinion.
"A come closer scent without being desperate"...hmmmm...that would be a new twist for me but I'd like to give it a try. Especially because you mentioned bergamot and laubdenum. My list for Santa is growing! Thanks, Katie! As always...great review!
Yes, i agree that the name is ironic. I also find interesting your association of this fragrance with Lovely. However, my most immediate reference for this fragrance is Dior Homme, created by Polge too. I feel that he refined his iris note on this fragrance, while making it a little bit greener and fresher.
my younger brother could stand to learn the lesson of scent application. he usually puts it on in his room with the door shut but that doesn't stop it from singeing my nose hairs and making my eyes water constantly
'Power' is one of my favorites (along with 'Prada Amber pour homme') and I agree that it's a scent for the day. It also offers a great range of other products such as shower gel and deodorant spray. I highly recommend the after shave balm :)
Katie, have you smelled John Galliano's first fragrance yet? I'd like to hear your opinion on that, because it reminded me extremely of 'Power' when it dried down on the skin.
I got this as a gift and I was pleasantly surprised too. On me it smells of bergamot, black tea and - how can I put this - hot rocks. You know the scent of sunbaked stones at the beach on a hot day? Not aquatic - but a little warm and woozy - A little like Io by Carthusia. Great review Katie....
Funny you should say that, because once I interviewed Alanis M, and she told me that I really reminded her of her friend Tori Amos! "Isn't it ironic?"

Oh and I agree with about Power. I think this is a fantastic fragrance. I get very little spice and a lot of floral and amber tones. Love it!
