  • Metroid Prime was best Metroid.

  • 2 metroids disliked this video

  • It is the first I bought with my own pocket money, when it was first released. I was mowing lawns to pay to this game after seeing the ad on TV. I still own it with the original box and manual, and play it once in a while.

  • Great freaking game and DAT FINAL BOSS FIGHT. This is likely one of the few games that's held up incredibly well over the years. From the gameboy era it had everything it needed, generated an alien atmosphere, has a bitchin' soundtrack, and the gameplay (although a bit tedious to pad out how short the game actually is) still holds its own against more recent titles (METROID OTHER M I'm LOOKING at you're BULLSHIT).

  • @lightlittlebrownboy come on MOM does not suck

  • @nintengamer3v0lve

Samus Aran- Voice acting. I'm not gonna bother mentioning the Wii's hardware limitations, the fact that they turned a bitchin' Bounty Hunter into a big flappy vagina stereotype, and of course that Ridley fight. Come on man it was a bad Metroid game, the series is really going downhill, but its a "decent" game on its own if you pretend it has nothing to do with the franchise. Metroid Prime and Super Metroid GOTYAY

  • @lightlittlebrownboy I thnk you're right about metroid prime series and super metroid

    but still think it's underrated

  • @nintengamer3v0lve

I would agree, but I just feel that it was the wrong way to go with the franchise. Thought then again, if it wasn't Metroid other M it would just be more fans begging for Super metroid over and over and over again.

  • @lightlittlebrownboy wadd'ya mean for the last part O.o

  • Fuck this game... very passionately and sensually after a fancy and expensive dinner.

  • SUPER GAME BOY!!!! :)

  • I like how jolly this game is compared to the other Metroid games...

  • This game scared me so badly. Got it on gameboy when I was like 7

  • @ThePunkambassador ..yeah real scary game..haha

  • this game was impossible

  • This is seriously the only Metroid game I've never played.

First thing that stands out to me is how very... different this soundtrack is. O_o

  • How can us fans not remember this? This was my first own Metroid game as well and I won it together with my Game Boy when I was really young. One of the first game boys in sweden even :3

This game got the atmosphere just right. I'd love a faithful remake of it for the NDS/N3DS.

Still got my cartridge with me, right now it's in my laptop bag.

  • First metroid game i ever seen or ehrd of. Got it then loved the series.

  • I deeply respect that this isn't tool-assisted...kudos bro.

  • I'm playing this game right now, I was able to find a copy at my gamestore, so lucky! i'm loving it, despite how slow it is

and those metroids are freakin' scary. I'd walk into a room and I'd get scared off my ass cuz it just happens to be there haha

  • This was the first Metroid game I ever played and I hated it! I always got lost. This game needed a map. I hated the series for years because of it.

  • what happened to the music halfway through the vid?

  • Remember this game? I still have it!

  • F-U-C-K YEAH

    THKS BRO

  • I love this game. But I think Nintendo should do a remake of this game for GBA or DS with better graphics and maps for all areas. That would be sweet.

  • This is the first Metroid game I played too and I was in primary. It was hard at that time and I took weeks to finish it once. I played it on the classic Game Boy without the colour and I love the game :]. Thanks for sharing :)!!!!!!!

  • you dont have morph ball right from the start if you start it from scratch

  • If you have ever played this game, you start with the Morph Ball and Missiles...

  • @MarkP0rter this is the only metroid game, other than prime hunters that you start with the morph ball and missiles

  • 4:11

  • I didn't like the new approach they took with Metroid 2 so I never beat it. I thought the design was way off from the original and some things you just don't change because you lose the fans of the original game. I mean you rarely have to shoot open doors :/

  • how is this in color?

  • @DarkSamus288

    if hes using an emulator,

then hes using a GBA emulator or a gbc emulator

they both put colour into GB games

  • i still own and play this daily. i wish i had a GBA sp instead of my old school GBA advance w/o the backlight.

  • So is this game for Game Boy or what? I've rocked the NES and SNES but I've never seen anyone playing this in real life. I do however know that the Advanced version is worth it.

  • i remember it. i even used to OWN it.

  • Same here. The forgotten Metroid...some of the Metroids, when they appeared, would scare the SHIT out of me, lol

  • i noticed all metroid games can be bought, except this one. Its not on the market! they need to remake this one too. For DS

    :D

  • it may not be Metroid Prime but its a pretty awsome game

  • i have the origional version. i get spider ball and then i am lost. thanks for the speed run

  • I need a ROM for this game but I can't find one! Shit.

  • i had this game, the B&W one, i used the gb game genie on it, which was a game genie good at fucking with games with random code.

  • so metroid zero mission is a copy of metroid II but with better detail?

  • no itsa remake of the first game with an added ending

  • metroid zero mission is a remake of the original metroid game for the nes with some added stuff.........its good that they made a remake but it was way too easy.......the origional was sooo much better.

  • zero mission is a remake of the first one

  • This game was terrific, even though it is a bit long, and its so damn easy to get lost if you dont have a map or know where you're going. Other than that, this was the best side-scrolling metroid that was released. Nintendo, WAKE UP AND DO A REMAKE!

  • remake being done by a game fan looks tasty check out 'project AM2R' on google and youtube for previews...playing the gb version myself never completed it when i was younger the brains used to scare the sh*t out of me lol

  • I got this my 1992 on my 13th birthday.

still got it, still play it! EPIC game!

  • j'ai passé des heures à ce jeu quand j'étais petit, mais je l'ai jamais terminé^^

il me faisait peur aussi ^^

  • Such great music in this game considering what system it was on!

  • Samus takes up too much room on-screen IMO...

But, then again, this IS GameBoy, with that teeny little monochromatic screen.

  • So you have at the start 30 missiles?

  • HOW DO you use the missiles ?

  • Use Select to switch between arm cannon and missiles.

  • My favorite Metroid game. The music was great, it felt like I was really trapped on some alien planet.

  • love this game

  • You're playing it on the Super Gameboy?

  • I expect it's being played on an emulator.

  • It's odd (but true for probably all Metroid games) that moving from side to side in a morph ball (assuming it's all flat) is actually quicker than standing up. Of course you'll also move quicker on the ground in any Metroid game than standing up and running if you have the Speed Boost upgrade.

  • Wrong. Only in this game and maybe the NES Metroid.

  • I remember this game. This was the first Metroid game I ever owned as a child

  • @Soroki121 same here!!!

  • Super Metroid or Metroid Prime are the best to me.

  • same here

  • its 4.99 for a used one at gamestop

  • thank you for that

  • I've got this for the original GB, it was so much fun!

  • ive played most metroid games but not this one but i want to so fucking bad

  • Try doperoms(dot)com. You can download an GB emulator there, then just download Metroid II. I don't think there are any restrictions.

  • you have to own the system and\or game

  • Metroid 1 + 2 can def. never match metroid 3, for me metroid 3 is the first real metroid :)

  • super metroid is the best game in the world ever in my opion

  • I was gunna say this is a boring speedrun, because the game is so slow, but Im not gunna lie. Those are some sick airshots.

  • @ORANGE170 is this opion a type of food?

  • great job. fun to watch

  • What is the story of this game? Samus has to exterminate metroids om Zebes?

  • yeah, but one metroid survives and it takes samus as its mom, then that metroid appears in metroid 3 (super metroid)

  • Moder, that's the storyline of Super Metroid, lol.

  • No. I said "good guys base". Maybe earth. Metroid production goes wrong in earth and samus has to go and kick metroid asses. Its quite simple but im sure the federation will dismiss samus for some reason,,,

  • No, Took care of the Metroids on Zebes.. She's at thier Home World, SR:388

  • yea so mother brain can't use them to harm the universe again

  • I had this game and it was my favorite! won the game in 2h and 5m

    -nick

  • I have this game but let me tell you, if you don't have it and you think its easy, you are so wrong.I have had this game for years and i only killed about 15 metroids, trust me i don't suck at it either!

  • Why's it in color? Did Nintendo make a Game Boy Color version?

  • If you use a GB cartridge and put it in a GameBoy color, the two classic colors ( yellow and black ) get replaced by two other colors. In this case, blue and red.

  • Oh. Okay. Thanks

  • Although they did make a certain console-type thing were you could plug it in and there would be actual landscape colors

  • In this case, a gameboy color was not used, therefore the anwser kyrax1 left is incorrect. The gameboy color does not ahve video out, therefore it was impossible to record this run that way. A super gameboy adapter for the SNES or a the Gameboy Player for Gamcube would have been used for this particular run.

  • or an emulartor, on the computer, which is used in tons of the speed runs, like the Super Metroid ones.

  • actually, you are wrong again. Speed demos archive does not accept speedruns done via emulator. Only on original hardware.

Speed Runs are done on original game hardware, TAS's or "tool assisted speed runs" are done on an emulator.

  • i still hav this game

  • So this is Metroid II! The graphics of Samus definitly improved from the first...still a confusing place though...I can tell just by watching it's like the first where IDK where to go most of the time =/

  • What a totally sweet game. This guy must have memorized it.

  • so simplistic! :P

  • I remember Metroid 2. It's basically the black sheep of the series due to it being too linear and not open enough like the others.

  • Metroid Fusion is the same way.

  • You still have some freedom to explore. You don't have to go to the next area in most situations.

  • I thought metroid fusion was more can to classic really. hmmmm

  • Best gamboy game ever; Whats the best time all of you did?

My all time best was 01:18!

  • this game takes place after metroid prime 3

  • This game really needs to be remade, screw remaking it for the DS, it needs to be on a console...bring back 2D Metroid to the big screen lol.

  • Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing! The old-fashioned difficulties of this game keep me from playing it (i.e. little aiming ability, super clustered screen, no map, etc.), but I would really like playing a remake of it.

  • Too bad Nintendo probably doesn't have enough balls or just don't care period to even do something as "remaking a fine classic" such as this...but that's my opinion (part of it) anyways.

  • look: In Fusion samus discover a secret metroid production of the federation. They get pissed off about that and about samus destroying the space station. They just dismiss Samus and start producing more metroids. Samus next mission?

Kill metroids! BUT without the permission of the federation. She will be in the base of the good guys to do the job. Thats my humble theory.

Forgive my english, i guess you got what i meant to say

  • Whoa, I never noticed that secret at about 8m, before!

  • uhhh NO

  • Nah...now maybe if they gave it the same remake treatment as Metroid: Zero Mission... *drool*

  • The metroid games have cool sound effects and music.

  • I remember this. nice tactic to use damage to get a jump boost ;) I never had map so I didnt finish this... to confusing!

  • 0:30

    is that a glitch?

  • noo there's many concealed walls that look like solid cover. some you just need to bomb once or so before you can go into them. Just secret walls like Zelda and other games. some just save time while others lead to hidden items.

  • Are those metroid things larvas or something?

  • If you mean the classic green ones, sort of. They only evolve when exposed to SR388's atmosphere, kind of like how they only mutate in a certain way when exposed to phazon.

  • is this the one with Brinstar Depths?

  • what system is this for??

  • Gameboy

  • BEST.METROID.GAME.EVER.

  • I never even knew that this game existed, I always thought that super metroid for SNES was the second metroid.

  • if you look at the intro for Super Metroid, it states it is Metroid III as well as showing part of the ending to Metroid II. This game is what gave us a taste of Super Metroid but is a lot more darker noir influenced. Maybe being in black & white did that at first, but its background and graphics were really great at the time!

  • This game was friggen awesome back in the day. I still play it even after all those years of throwing my gameboy into the wall after getting my ass handed to me by those omega sons-of-bitches. Best music ever!

  • nice game

  • GOD DAMN THAT BITCH IS FAST!! I'm still only in the alpha metroid territory. But yeah, the music would be better if it had a better music chip...

  • nice ghetto jumps at 1:50

  • Hell yeah! Awesome Overworld Music!

  • Yeah, this game had some of the best music.

  • The over world music owns.....Ah the memories.

  • My third grade year was devoted so much to this game. It was not until the Nintendo Power Comic of Metroid came out that I learned that Samus was a woman.

  • This is my favorite Metroid game. It deserves a Zero Mission-style remake.

  • Yes it does. I want to see what those metroids would really look like. And in full color. I wonder why the fusion metroid couldnt fly...

  • They should remake this, and super metriod, in a zero mission form. That would be awesome!

  • Nah, Super Metroid is perfect already. At least, content wise, nothing needs to be added. Graphics, however, sure.

  • I mean for a more recent system, increase the speed of the game, graphics, maybe the layout. I have a SNES and super metroid but I my data keeps getting erased and I just thought it would be cool to do something like that.

  • If you have a Wii, try the Virtual Console port, especially with the Classic Controller for the SNES feel. I believe you can back up your save file to an SD (digital camera) memory card.

  • Yeah, but I don't have a wii :(, I have a PS3!!! :) I can just get emulators for those games anyway.

  • Woah! At 01:47 why did an earthquake start?! Holy crap.

  • After you defeat many metroids from the level you started in this game it means a new path is opened in the depths of the planet's cave, getting a few steps closer to the Queen's lair

  • the lava drains in the right side of the area

  • game boy, actually

  • Game boy, AND game boy color actally.

  • Did this come out for NES or SNES?

  • Never was much for this one...Super Metroid, in my opinion, was the greatest ever. You guys ever see the SR for that one?

  • i have and am in awe of that players prowess.

  • its hard to speed runs on old games like this, lots of exploring, especially metroid games. ive seen newer games done in less time. geez

  • hey nismans

this game was awesome, we played it in junior school, it seemed so big and overwhelming. it was one of the most fascinating games on the game boy.

  • I never found the jump ball ability, in the book stood a picture and I saw it was in a totally dark area. I think I remember a place full black..damn this game gave me the creeps.. I also didn't know in the begin how to create the 2nd earthquake.

  • Remember this game!? This was one of my favorite Game Boy games! Sweet!

  • Good music

  • the tags say zebes, but shouldn't it be sr388?...

  • gay missle expansion give you 10 while the other metroids game only gives u 5

  • nice, I still have this game for Gameboy.

  • Thanks for rating!

  • of course that I know this game, it`s the first metroid game I played. I find the metroid series awesome :D

  • hey guys u may not believe me but my mom and dad helped make the game yes there were black people helping so i have every metroid game and all nintendo stuff im lucky if u want i could give u metroid games and nintendo stuff for free!!

  • aww this game is awesome but its easy and kinda confusing at the same time the last time i played it was 30 seconds ago and im still playing it fighting the last boss now

  • Did you use the GameboyColorizer?

  • playing it on a system like gbc gba and the gb uplink to the GC makes it in color i have a ds but i play this on my SP Tribal cus you cant play GB on DS

  • never played this game

  • I didn't know this game came out on anything other than GameBoy.

  • it dident the SP can play it

  • with that much color?

  • yea

  • The Spider Ball was also used on Metroid Prime.

  • this is where the spider ball originally came from...

  • spider ball rocks more when you get varia later in game
