  • 70's Music is the best ever

  • As we used to say "Blow it, Magic!"

  • And used in the 2010 Winter Olympics by an Italian skater during his short program. Unfortunately, the song was better than the routine.

  • I was in the Navy stationed at Great Lakes NTC back in 77. A buddy and I made a 24 hr round trip to Saginaw MI to buy 3 sheets of Green Dragon Blotter. We listened to Full House for 20 hours of that ride. We saw J.Geils at the first Rock Super Bowl at Soldier Field with ELP and Foghat. Whammer Jammer was burned into my brain.

  • the Harmonicas started rolling in after hearing and practicing this tune. Magic Dick rules

  • This piece marks Magic Dick as the greatest mouth harp player ever. John Mayall was pretty good to on the song "Room To Move" check it out.

  • Little Walter and co dont figure then??

the late NORTON BUFFALO is the best ever...

Just ask Charlie Musselwhite, Steve Miller, any of his bandmates or the bands he played as a sideman since 1967!!

  • Best Rockpalast night ever. The J. Geils Band opened the show and were followed by Patti Smith Group and Johnny Winter. I got il all on cassette :-)

  • Wonder if Johnny got the JGB out to do some jamming, that would have been a blast

  • I want to learn to play that on the harmonica.

  • Get ready to spend many years learning and practicing the harp before you'll be anywhere near ready to tackle this song (assuming you haven't already been playing for years).

  • Isn't Essen the German word for "eat"? Funny name for a town.

Of course, I live in Mississippi, and there's a town here called Chunky . . .

    Anyway . . .

  • First time I saw the J. Geils Band Live. I had never heard of them. RubberBowl, Akron, Ohio 1972. They blew me the phuck away. Saw them at least 10 times after that. It just proves that there " Ain`t no PARTY like a J.Geils Band HOUSE PARTY".

Talk about kick your azz and blow your face out. Ohhhhhh Hell yes. This is one of the few bands that I would pay top dollar to see live again. Thanks for the memories.

  • they are tearing down the rubberbowl :(

  • I`m pretty sure I watched this late at night Live on Rockpalast, I was 14 at the time, living near the German border in the Netherlands. Good Times. Saw Magic Dick play live at the Patronaat some 20 years later. Blues never ends

  • Magic Dick is a Harp god!

  • Kid Rock doesn't belong on the same planet with Dicky or Butterfield or Little Walter. He's a poser and a slouch.....A phony who got his clock cleaned in an Atlanta coffee shop when he ran his mouth off. Kid Rock sucks rocks.

  • **Hey Peter Wolf~ Remember the New Years Eve Show~~1982 Worcester Centrum? No?.. How about when we jammed 3 tunes at Metropolis Recording in Middleton, MA? ~ Still with Ya Brother

    Bobby "whamma"

  • I was at that show front row. Magic Dick sweat on me shaking his head!

    doug stanhope

  • magic dick is a god among(spelling?) mortals on that harp

  • I'd rather prefer Magic Dick blowing his brains out than Kid Rock or any of these lame-assed AOR rockers - this is the way it's supposed to be done, kids. Woofu Goofu, Juke Joint Jimmy - where art thou?

  • the Master!

  • yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes LIGHTER IN A LOCKED AND UPRIGHT POSITION~!

  • He is a little weird, and they would not reunite because they are all to embarrasses of themselves now. No disrespect everyone deserves to have there own music preferences so I am not making fun of them or anyone that likes them. It is just not what I like.

  • OHHHHH..... you Fucking-A!!!!

  • Bostoinans can appreciate them back in the day.The crap like centerfold sucked ass

  • sounds like a farmer fuckin'one of his sheep!

  • Is there a better rock name than Magic Dick?

  • fukin he can play

  • Majic Dick on the lickin stick. Who-ya!

  • just talked with Adam Gussow. he said that it's a slightly bent 3-4 draw and done really hard. even knowing that, the note is still impossible to recreate.

  • did anyone else see the souls of the damned escape from his harp when he played that ungodly overblow at 2:03? was that even an overblow? or was it a wailing demon?

  • lol, yea, i still cant figure out how to do that....

  • No overblow there. He just sings into the mike through the harp, maybe playing a blown note while doing it.

  • This is great ! I was The monitor mixer for The J.Geils Band on the night this video was shot. I've waited 28 years to see a clip from this show. The entire European tour this show was part of was a classic rock and roll road trip. -George Corneliussen-

  • Rockpalast/Grugahalle Essen - this concert was my very first experience with live music, I hit the big one right away.Thought this must be greatest live gig of all times. Maybe it somehow really was...

  • Good showing Dick, just a little fast. The Full House rendition nailed just the right tempo.

  • Like Muddy Waters said Of Magic Dick "If this boy eat pussy like he blows harp then he's a muthaf*cker.

  • magic dick will be on the upcoming legendary rhythm & blues cruise, the world's only fully chartered blues festival at sea.

  • My parents were the biggest J. Geils fans way back when. My Mom used to play their records non stop when I was a little kid. This band was one of the best live bands back in the day and did live shows often in Detroit at the Grande Ballroom. I LOVE this band!! Rock on.

  • Magic Dick along with a Pierre Bouregard was working on a "Magic harmonica". Did anything ever come of that. What type of harmonica does Magic use anyhow.

  • marine bands usually, for this song he used one in the key of A, he plays it cross tho so its really E

  • Absolutely one of the best live acts ever...I saw em at least a dozen times in the 70s...'Full House' is one of the 3 greatest live albums of alltime.

  • I heard Dick talk at a seminar and he made a big point about how a harp player needs top be in good physical shape. Watching this, you can see why he felt that way!

  • A friend of mine was a roadie for the Stones when J. Geils opened for them way back when. He remembers clearly that one night Jagger saw their set and said, "I can't go on after these guys!"

Yes, The J. Geils Band was that good. They were the best live band you'll ever see. Everyone, and I mean, everyone, left their gigs soaked from sweat.

  • Can we get a REUNION TOUR?? All the original members are still around. I would love to see the original band back together again!

  • They did a reunion tour in the summer of 1999 or 2000, I think. I saw them at the Garden State Arts Center (Jersey) and hung out with Dick in the dressing room. Unbelievable show. I was grinning so hard it hurt. Dick is the nicest guy you want to meet, too. And yes: they WERE the American Stones. Believe the hype.

  • Sadly for me, a young guy at the time, I only knew Centerfold. Hopefully Magic Dick comes around my area. He was nice enough to respond to my E-Mail, that was greatly appreciated!

  • Saw them twice, no other band put as much in or rocked harder than these guys, it was total commitment for hours- like being hit by a runaway express train!

  • I saw JGB open for the Sontes in 1981 at the LA Colesium. They blew the Stones off the Stage, I'm not kidding. It was awesome. Saw them two times after that. J.Geils Band is probably the best live band I ever saw. They rock.

  • Full House....great album

  • Man, I love that early J. Geils stuff. Dick was

something else. And there's no way you can pick a "Best" harp player. Kim, Piazza, DeLay, Salgado,

    William Clarke, Butterfield, Musselwhite, Primich,

Jerry Portnoy, Billy Boy Arnold. Hell, check out the

vids with Michael Pickett, you're not picking a #1.

It's just the guy that grabs you the most.

  • i've played onstage with piazza 8 times...rod's the best

  • Terrific harp player,..love the song. Thanx for posting! Where are you from?

  • Nice. And I like the way he uses the hole9 bend!(Always highlight the advantages, that is my philosophy.) ;-)

  • Kim is waaaay better than Magic. You should hear the guy that taught Magic how to play!

  • Hey, this is music not the olympic games, no one is better, its just music.

  • mmmhhh lets go take a look on Kim W. side...

  • Lets look at James Cotton 100% Cotton

  • This is my favorite harp time of all tune also!

  • Whammer Jammer, Cruisin' For A Love, Pack Fair & Square, I love all that stuff! This is great, thanks, Harpsucker!

  • Dick is truly "magic" Thanks Man!

  • Thanks!

  • This is my favorite harp tune of all time!

  • alright!!!

  • oh, Thank you very very much ! Harpsucker!!!
