to be honest though the chevy duramax 6.6L is only a v8 but 397hp 765 torque. more displacement less cylinders. loads more power. i think the engineers at vw could give more hp and toruqes but what they have is plenty. no competition to make more hp its not like this is a pickup truck

do you know that it has only 300 hp but 553 torque. torque is the actuall pulling power Horsepower is responsible for moving the vehicle along and gives it the ability to cruise on the highway and accelerate in normal conditions.

Torque is the force that helps the vehicle start moving from a stop and pulls it up steep hills. Torque steps in again to provide power when you're hauling items or towing something behind the vehicle. 553 torques is nock you in your seat snapping power

To be very honest, i dont think 300 hp for a 5 litre V10 engine is a lot of power. The audi produces 340 bhp and 760nm from a 4.2 V8 TDI. Mercedes Benz is developing a 500 CDI engine (based on two 250CDI engines arranged in "V") to produce an engine that would produce anywhere between 390bhp to 410 bhp and around 1000 nm of torque. And i am not kidding. No doubt volkswagen ditched this engine.

vw wasnt trying to make same type engines as competition but better. no point there, audi is vw ffs.

so, for phaeton and touareg, they made different, unique engines. v10 diesel and w12 petrol, nothing even remotely similar exists. that's the point.

@Niteuk Hopefully you will put your head and gas in a bag, and be quiet for ever. Diesel is'nt about power. Its about Torque. Not your kind of torque though. That Torque is cheap..................

@Niteuk yea budday yay gas blah blah but diesel is ten times more fuel efficient, there engines last longer and its about torque, note how he said 730nm of torque, 300 hp is alot for a diesel engine..

@Niteuk woth 350 horses.. your V6 gasolene would burn as much fuel as a V12 TDI engine of audi Q7 and it would be producing no more than 400 nm without turbo. And without the torque, your 350 cv are totally useless :-)

Ugliest sound on start you can ever imagine due to its diesel nature, but when they rev, you can enjoy the sound of the engine more.

@uvmatt3000 Yup. The smartest move Chrysler made in the past decade was removing that from their truck lineup. If you need that much torque the Cummins was and is the only engine that makes sense. Why would you limit yourself to 450ft/lbs @ 8 MPG. When you could get closer to 500 and 17+ mpg. My '96 12 Valve Cummins gets 26 MPG under ideal conditions. The worst I have ever gotten with a large load was 14 MPG. Plus the engine has 300k on the clock and runs like a champ.
