@SparrowFC If you can make it work, I see no problem. Maybe give them a good wash before using them though, especially if they've had a previous owner. Once they clog, you could throw them out and get another set, if they're cheap. Were you going to use them like a micron sock? If so, you could probably use a couple of pairs inside one another to create a finer filter medium. Good luck and let me know how it goes if you decide to use them.
last time I went the cheap way all my fish died. I bought some furnace filter, it was blue and 24x48 I don't know if it was because of the color but my amonia sky rocketed through the roof so becareful with that.
@frank1971ification I would say the 405 would be good for 3 large turtles, however the size of the filter you should get also depends on the size of your tank. Get the biggest filter you can afford, making a large investment in your filter now will save you buying another, bigger filter later. Perhaps even look at a wet/dry sump filter if the turtles are fairly large.
@owly127 Take it slow when modifying this filter as you dont want to break the plastic, If you get stuck at any point send me a PM and I'll answer any questions you have. Good Luck!
Hello. I am thinking of buying this 205 tomorrow for my Juwel 125 litre tank. It has about 25 fish in it and I want to introduce a 3d background so I am having to go the external filter route otherwise I would have to mount my fluval U3 on the side of the glass.
How does this filter perform on stock? Is the output of fitered water quite powerful?
For a 125 Litre tank the 205 is acceptable if you're only stocking small to medium sized fish(max of 10 - 12 cms). However I would recomend a 305 or equivalent and above if you're stocking larger fish like Cichlids and/or keeping plants. When your budget allows, always go bigger than you need to, incase you decide to get more fish or upgrade to a larger tank. Thanks for watching!
hello, i really like your video and i have a fluval 105 filter in a 16 gallon fish tank with just 1 gold fish and i really want to maintain a good water quality and currently i am following the setup of the filter that it came with. And i would like to use fine or coarse sponge on top of the filter trays and on top of the current sponges, and will it take the good bacteria out of the water or poor water quality. With fluval 105 filter can i add 1 more goldfish in total of 2 ?
@100ssgoku wouldn't recomend it, turtles produce quite a lot of waste so you'll need to accomodate for that as well as the large amount of ammonia being produced, A filter with a large medium capacity and decent water flow would be needed. If you're going to have more than one turtle probably better off with a Fluval 405 or simular in another brand.
Instead of using "filter medium" you can use pillow stuffing. I found that it comes in larger packages at cheaper prices. I use the stuff all the time in my aquariums.
Hey rarityd, I do have a larger filter running now, however it is not the Fluval Brand (Cannot recall the name at this point in time). I will be posting a video on the new canister filter later on if I can improve it efficiency. Thanks
The size is 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.8ft roughly. It's around 40 Gallons or 160 Litres. However I have upgraded to a 1500lt/hr canister now. I think the fluval205 runs at 800-1000 litres/hr, not sure though.
Love your commentary, "like all aquarium cabinets its full of sh*t" lmao my thoughts exactly I have the same problem.

What are your thoughts on using stockings as a filter medium?

@forsytk Sure can, same stuff basically. I'm thinking of starting to use it now as my water polisher.
