@row759 Actually, the viewership picked up during the season 4, much more than the first three seasons. The producers were wrong because phenomenal interests occurred in this season. If I remember the nos. exactly, viewership that finals night was more than 28.0M. Even the post-idol tour of season 4 is one of the top-grossing tours.

Also, because AI was a bigger show in Carrie's year (see viewing figures), she got much more publicity instantly.

She was great in The Secret Life of Bees and Sex and the City, and she's in production with other films even now. CU is a good country singer, but JH has shown that she is a multi-talented star.

@ChilenoPiscean22 American Idol had a special review with Carrie and she said that pre-corded stuff wasn't allowed at all. Unfornuately, it was here on YouTube awhile back, but it has since been blocked, because I saved it to my playlist of Carrie's videos and when I wanted to relooked at it, it was blocked and I can't get un-blocked.
Yea pre-recording when she had to sing live was not allowed, she still sang live, but we are talking about back ground vocals. That hardly proves anything. Being a HUGE carrie fan, I can hear her voice in the background on a different register. Plus i have read numerous people say the same thing, thats her voice in the background. Furthermore when the camera pans out, I do NOT see any back ground singers.

Carrie is one person who never auto-toned on vocals and will never did it auto-tone vocals. Simon was actually correct about Carrie. And Carrie has proven how good she is since then on American Idol. @Moniqtee , As soon as Carrie was finished, the show could have ended right then and there. She had it won without question, even though producers probably didn't like the idea.
Says alot about her that she can pull off a song like Alone by Ann and Nancy Wilson. She will sell alot of recordings with that kind of versatility because she will not be limited to just country music. Raw talent there. Really liked the video where she sang Alone with Ann and Nancy Wilson. You know you got Ann's respect when she invites you to sing one of her songs with Heart.
@Jimmynable If Ann and Nancy thought that way, they would not of released their songbook for everyone to buy of their best songs so that they can be covered. But, I am biased, I like it when Ann and Nancy sing this song best. Vocalists are an interesing lot, they admire someone who takes the time to sing their songs and Ann respects Carrie and vice versa...not trying to outdo each other was evident in the video. Carrie is not Heart and she never intended to be but Ann thinks well of her.
@MusicLover1701 I'm all 4 ppl learning how to play their songs and everything. It's the whole concept of programmes like this I have something against. The vast majority of artists aren't gna say no 2 coming on a show like this, getting paid a fortune while being exposed to millions of viewers and making a ton of royalties of it just before they go on tour. These shows have very little to do with music and more to do with television and entertainment.
@MusicLover1701 And the way I see it a glorified kareoke singer gets their dreams realized for in all probability a very short time, making ppl like Simon Cowell who has zero talent himself very wealthy while artists who can actually play instruments and/or write their own material and are working very hard to make it don't get their chance. Artist like the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes and etc....are revered and they were the original definition of pre-manufactured as far as image and material goes. I don't recall a Supreme picking up an acoustic or bass. You never hear a peep about that.
And no doubt there are some real bums out there. Ke$ha is one artist that comes to mind who is an embarrassment on all levels.

I think Carrie's sister started to realize how right that their mother was about their little sister. When they started to realize, hey, little sister actually going to win this competiton and how she can sing.
The Idol band gave me chills ....Backup vocals, drummer, violins, and Carries powerful vocals....Years after this performance I still find myself searching this from time to time.

@firefly3918 That doesn't make any sense...AI employs backup singers for every week of the voting competition, why would they have them sit out one song if they were already being paid to sing that week anyways? Also, the voice sounds completely different, especially at 1:10.

@vegas2990 Actually Underwood has performed this song elsewhere without background vocals. Also, take note of Underwood singing the verses, "Til now, I always got by on my own" and "And now it chills me to the bone". And for the regular verses, Miss Carrie Underwood was singing solo.

@ChilenoPiscean22 American Idol had a special review with Carrie and she said that pre-corded stuff wasn't allowed at all. Unfornuately, it was here on YouTube awhile back, but it has since been blocked, because I saved it to my playlist of Carrie's videos and when I wanted to relooked at it, it was blocked and I can't get un-blocked.

Yea pre-recording when she had to sing live was not allowed, she still sang live, but we are talking about back ground vocals. That hardly proves anything. Being a HUGE carrie fan, I can hear her voice in the background on a different register. Plus i have read numerous people say the same thing, thats her voice in the background. Furthermore when the camera pans out, I do NOT see any back ground singers.

For those that are praising Simon for being this grand prophet of talent... seeing it before anybody else does, there is a great reason for it. HE HAS THE POWER TO TURN PEOPLE INTO STARS. So when he says stuff like. "you are going to be a star". he means "I will make you!" No prophecy needed for that crap

Carrie is one person who never auto-toned on vocals and will never did it auto-tone vocals. Simon was actually correct about Carrie. And Carrie has proven how good she is since then on American Idol. Whenever they ask who the best from Idol. Carrie wins that without a second thought. Kelly was the first one until Carrie simply took over and will not look back.

Says alot about her that she can pull off a song like Alone by Ann and Nancy Wilson. She will sell alot of recordings with that kind of versatility because she will not be limited to just country music. Raw talent there. @Jimmynable If Ann and Nancy thought that way, they would not of released their songbook for everyone to buy of their best songs so that they can be covered. But, I am biased, I like it when Ann and Nancy sing this song best. Vocalists are an interesing lot, they admire someone who takes the time to sing their songs and Ann respects Carrie and vice versa...not trying to outdo each other was evident in the video. Carrie is not Heart and she never intended to be but Ann thinks well of her.

@MusicLover1701 I'm all 4 ppl learning how to play their songs and everything. It's the whole concept of programmes like this I have something against. The vast majority of artists aren't gna say no 2 coming on a show like this, getting paid a fortune while being exposed to millions of viewers and making a ton of royalties of it just before they go on tour. These shows have very little to do with music and more to do with television and entertainment.

@MusicLover1701 And the way I see it a glorified kareoke singer gets their dreams realized for in all probability a very short time, making ppl like Simon Cowell who has zero talent himself very wealthy while artists who can actually play instruments and/or write their own material and are working very hard to make it don't get their chance. These shows are making money from ppl's dreams being crushed which includes the winners a lot of the time.

@Jimmynable I would hardly call the likes of Carrie Underwood or even Kelly Clarkson glorified karaoke singers. Jennifer Hudson? This show has produced some amazing talent. And so what if Simon has nomusic talent? I can't recall him ever claiming to be. He clearly has an eye for identifying those that have it to be pop stars, which is the name of the game at the end of the day. And why is the prerequisite of being a "true artist" involve writing your own music or playing your own instruments?

@Tonezone We'll agree to disagree no problem. You do know though that the auditions are auto-tuned? I believe that technology didn't exist in early motown days. I don't deny that a lot of the singers on here have good singing voices and I have no problem so much with them but the show in general dangling fame in front of ppl like a carrot. So u don't mind ppl who do things a thousand times worse than u telling ppl u r awful? I think anyone could hear Liona Lewis sing and know shes got it.

@Jimmynable Look at the whole entire of Motown's early days. Artist like the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes and etc....are revered and they were the original definition of pre-manufactured as far as image and material goes. I don't recall a Supreme picking up an acoustic or bass. You never hear a peep about that.
And no doubt there are some real bums out there. Ke$ha is one artist that comes to mind who is an embarrassment on all levels.

And for Heart to go on a show like this that is all about public image when I believe they were dropped from a record label just because Ann put on a bit of weight doesn't sit well with me. At the end of the day I don't like these shows so I don't watch them but I really think they're some songs that they should leave well alone.
