Hogan made wrestling what it was back then...PERIOD.
To deny that is to spit in the face of reality. I know for a fact that the majority of wrestling fans showed up to those house shows to see HULK HOGAN, so McMahon's booking of the Hulkster as the MAN was appropriate. Everyone ate off the plate that Hogan provided to the business during that time. Even wrestlers in other organizations!
@qpalzmxnskwieudjcnvb Tony Blackburn is an English radio presenter & television host who has been a house hold name since the late 1960's just type his name in Wikipedia dude :~)
I wish Miss Elizabeth hadn't left Randy. I could see that there were some issues with how he handled himself with her, but later on...he did try. I wish she'd stayed with him and that she'd never gotten involved with the likes of the NWO and WCW. That's what killed her. That's what kills me to this day. I hope she's in peace and I hope that she knows how loved she was by us...her fans. RIP Miss Elizabeth! We love you!
Really? That makes me happy to know. It may be silly, but I still get choked up when I watch their reunion at Wrestlemania 8. What is the name of Bret's book? I'd really like to read it!
I thought that they reunied at WrestleMania VII after Savage lost the Retirement Match to the Ultimate Warrior. Following the loss, Sherri turned against Savage and Elizabeth came and got rid of Sherri. WrestleMania VIII was when Savage beat Ric Flair to regain the WWF World title.
Basically, in a nutshell Linda Bollea convinced Liz that she was missing out by having married so young, and that she needed to get away from Randy's over protectiveness. He was only protective because he wanted to keep her from the sleaze of the business. She divorced him in 1992, and a year later wanted to come back. However, Savage said that the trust was broken, so he couldn't get back with her. According to the Ultimate Warrior, she regretted leaving Randy for the rest of her life.
hogans best wwf matches were against guys like savage, dibiase, orndorff, hennig and
ric flair.the andre match at mania 3 was all about the slam and beating andre but the match was not great.not hulks fault or andres, andre was in horrible pain with back problems that night and mcmahon knew that and exploited andre but andre went along with it.the money must have been good enough for andre to go along with it.thats the advantage mcmahon always had-daddys moolah.....
vince mcmahon is an idoit now.he used to be smart,he used to push guys like HBK,bret hart, savage all these excellent workers,he didnt push them cos they were juiced up,he pushed them cos they knew they were great workers.
He actually pushed them because after the steroid scandal in the early 90's Mcmahon knew it would look really bad if he kept giving the large roided up wrestlers pushes.
Also, explain to me your definition of a worker? Because a worker is someone who knows how to control a crowds emotion and do that by telling a story in the ring. Great workers now are John Cena, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Edge, Triple H, The Undertaker, HBK, JBL and even CM Punk. These guys know how to control a crowds emotion throughout a match which makes them great workers. You can say John Cena is a bad wrestler but to deny him of being a great worker is idiotic.
Well it is not that Cena is bad.Vince just wants him for money instead of using him for good ring work.Look at Cena in OVW and his early WWE career. He chained wrestled and had quickness and technical skills. But McMahon saw him as a chance to make money so he gave him a superman push and he was beating 99% of the roster.Vince Mcmahon doesn't know shit about wrestling only little kids entertainment.
sslam 92 made sense for the double main event.sslam 90 however had no reason to be billed as a double main event except to soothe hogans ego, much like wm 8.double main events only happened when hulk wasnt champ.
Ugh, you'll blame Hogan for everything, no matter what! If Hogan's ego was HALF as bad as you claim, he would've been the last match at SS90, not the lower of the double main event. The return of Hogan after a retirement injury angle made perfect sense to be billed as a double main event.. You also contradict your previous statement that double main events only happened when Hogan wasn't champ. SS91 had the double main event when Hogan wasn't even in the company.
Macho Man had a serious infection in his arm from what i've read and they were worried he might not be able to perform at WM5...anyway i enjoyed the Hogan/savage feud....it was one of the better feuds that Hogan had in WWF...better than watching Hogan fight guys like Sgt. Slobber and some of these other hacks the WWF had him going up against.
survivor series hogan had no reason to be one of the survivors.
summerslam was a tag team main event just so hogan could be included in the main event.
hogan did the same thing when the warrior was the champ held his hand took the spotlight never gave either of them a chance to headline a ppv even summerslam 90 became a double main event.
Are you really going to be a little bitch that quotes only half of a line from my statement? MY statement was NOT "We cannot judge PPV buyrates". What I said was "We cannot judge PPV buyrates of the Macho Man Championship reign because he never headlined a PPV without Hogan being involved. " Also, you win dumbest the Youtube Comment of 2009 Award. Summerslam 88 was ONLY a tag match so Hogan could be involved? I guess higher buyrates and merchandise and $ had nothing to do with it?
no i dont think it was buyrates merchandise or $.I think it was hogan trying to make savage look like he needed him.which he tried to do right through machos reign.
WrestleMania used to be the only PPV match and Hogan built those into money making goldmines. Hogan was the WWF's biggest draw. When WWF created Survivor Series in Nov 87, they used Hogan in the main event to draw the buyrate. Hogan lost in that match, so much for Ego. When WWF created a new PPV in August 88 called SummerSlam, of course they brought back their biggest draw to make it a success. Who the hell else was Macho going to team with at the time? Hacksaw Jim Duggan?
Secondly, to those saying that Savage was as big of a draw as Hogan was back then, that is just not true. The House Shows that Savage headlined while Hogan was on hiatus from the WWF from March until August 88, did not sell out. It took Hogan coming back and being on screen with Savage to get the House Show business back up. We cannot judge PPV buyrates of the Macho Man Championship reign because he never headlined a PPV without Hogan being involved.
sorry mate but i followed wrestling back then, and one of the most sold out arenas ever was wembley stadium with savage headlining. And not everything is rated upon headlining. Its also about recognition.
Oh Christ! Are you kidding me? Savage headlined the Wembley SummerSlam? WRONG! Savage was World Champion and put in the mid-card of that show against The Warrior. It was Bret and Davey Boy Smith that Main Evented that show, and Davey being England's Own, is what sold that show. Certainly not Savage! Savage was nowhere near the level of Hogan as far as draw and money generated.
sure, because davey boy was originated from the uk, have you ever heard of double main event? Nah probably not. Savage was headlining shows during that period and with good results.
1st of all, why is everyone hating on the Hogan/Savage rivalry? I lived through the damn thing and it did tremendous business. It's not like people got tired of seeing Macho do the job to Hogan. Maybe you don't realize this but the Megapowers angle is the longest running angle in WWF/E history. It started in October 87 and ended in August 89 at SummerSlam when Savage teamed with Zeus. Do you think you'll ever see a continuous 22 month angle in WWE today?
macho playing 2nd fiddle to chump hogan again how many times did he do the job for hogan? It rips me up to see liz with hogan she should of been with me.
Today he may seem so, but back in the 80s no-one had more charisma than Hulk Hogan, especially if you were a kid! Savage was a great, great heel and he and Hogan has some excellent matches together, but there's a reason why Hulk Hogan was the biggest star of the decade.

I could not have said it better, but you know something, 'Bulk-Hogan' always bit off of other major stars popularity & at the same time ruined their popularity in favor of his! That to me is a back stabbing piece of CRAP! Just like the song 'Real American' it used to be 'Barry Windham' & 'Mike Rotunnos' theme song before BACK STABBER 'Hogan' stole it from them! It's soooo true! I have the first wrestling album that prooves iT!! 'MACHO MADNESS" surounds you yeahh!
no actually, hogan's fame had nothing to do with other guys' fame and popularity going down hill. He was just pushed so much that it became overated. its just like any other guy getting pushed like Lesnar or someone, and Goldberg. but Hogan did have his way in wcw with the scripts, and had say in things, that is differnt though.
