I don't think theres anyway to really compare Morello and McCready, they're both outstanding guitarists, but their style is nothing the same, It's like comparing classical to Jazz.

McCready is a more technical and better player, but Morello has that very original sound where you KNOW its him playing. I personally like McCready better...hes just straight up more rockin and can shred some hendrix

John Anthony Frusciante takes the cake in any comparison of the last 30 years but between these fellas its gunna be Mike! I mean Mike has that Hendrix flavor to him, and i mean come on.. Mikes solo took up 1:52 of this video and it still kept us really entertained.. Tom's more of a mad scientist with guitar..and while his solos are interesting sometimes I think his solo slots serve more as bass solos than guitar soloes =/

@notchjohnson1 from a technical and solo point of view John is worse than all those guitarists you mentioned. What im pointing out is that if not guitarist, hes a much better musican than them. If you listen to his solo songs, and most of his rhcp songs too, they are simple and beautiful, he doesnt have to show off, and he often writes simple 4 chord songs which in their simplicity hold a great beauty

@trueamericanidiot28 About Mike "not using many tools".....listen to Nothing As it Seems, Tremor Christ, Red Mosquito, You Are, and Push Me, Pull Me (Push Me, Pull Me is one song not two) and then tell me that. Heck, looking over some of those songs made my own respect for Mike just rise dramatically. Also for a really fast solo, check out Comatose.

@trueamericanidiot28 If you only know him by Pearl Jam's mainstream stuff, I could easily see that. I myself am only a casual RATM and Audioslave fan, so I'm not too familiar with Tom Morello's stuff, but he can play decently fast and is really good at effects; but Mike can play a little faster, is no slouch with effects himself. He can also put a lot of feeling into his stuff. Yellow Ledbetter's guitar solo is about as artistic as music gets. It's really hard to compare Tom to anyone though.

I think they both suck. MCCready can;t even bend in pitch and has no vibrato whatsoever..tasteless, IMO then I grew up in a period where every guitarist in bands was accomplished at an age and practiced 8 hours a day..so usually people who grew up with Pearl Spam, have nothing else to reference.

I think Morello is a better guitarist, but I have to say that his weird soloing has really hurt some of the Audioslave songs. It fits in RATM b/c the overall style of the band is unusual, b/c it has to match the rapping.

This is a tough video cuz Alive has one of my favourite solo's of all time, and the Bulls on Parade solo, while creative and cool, really isn't overly difficult. Two of my favorite guitarists but I like Morello a bit more.

I don't know if many understand or it just flies by you, but they're both just like Hendrix. McCready's playing style is similar to Hendrix and Morello's style in general with the usuage of effect pedals is just like Hendrix.

But my pick would have to be McCready. He brought guitar playing back the way it should be.

Tom Morello is stylistically one of the most unique guitarists of all time. He uses every trick in the book and then adds more pages. And in the end it works.
