with those style test kits its best to do it twice to make sure that something that didnt go wrong. i have had the same test kit. i performed the test twice and got to different results
Thanks for showing us how to do a soil test. Now that we know how easy it is, maybe more of us can do them in our own gardens. Question: Currently, how many hours of direct sun will hit your garden?? I noticed a lot of trees when you were building it, and they can sure shut out the sunlight,
I like my electric PH tester better than the color strips ones. I have found by using different strips from different companies I get far different results. Another thing you may test is your water coming out of your sprayer, this is a major factor as I have heard stories of water companies changing the PH by changing their processes.
Why is the garden called a freedom garden ?Why do you correlate making a vegetable garden with freedom?Isn't it the other way around?Taking care of crops is a pain ,it's a thing of beauty that we can just go to a store that's full of all the food we can want and need and just buy it without having to manually grow the crops our selves or kill the animals ourselves. Now I'm not critizising setting up a vegetable garden , but rather the name of it. In any case, looks like it's coming along nicely.
He who controls the food controls the population. This is a food revolution; Freedom from control. There is an up front investment of time and money. It IS work. But THIS work is the path to freedom.
The less money needed to buy food means less one needs to slave to earn that money or more saved. The more we grow ourselves, the less we buy at markets where it must first be trucked, saving vast amounts of fossil fuels, reducing pollution, etc etc etc.
@ZeroFossilFuel Well yeah , but growing our own food is really going backwards rather than forward , you know. The industrial revolution was a great leap for mankind , as was the discovery of fossil fuels and electricity. Why would anyone want to willingly go back to the stone age ?
@demoniclordwizard - I thought it was pretty clearly pointed out earlier. if you grow your own food, you have released yourself from being a slave to the nation. You don't have to earn as much money to purchase food, therefore you are breaking the man's rules. Also, you can control what you eat; no pesticides or anything you don't add. This is not the case from the food you buy in the store. My garden gets bigger every year and we save a lot of money and eat much better food...
@didscodan Yeah , but growing your own food is a ton of hard work. That's the beauty of an industrialized nation , that you don't have to do this things yourself. Rather , you work in one job , and get money , which you can purchase everything else you want with, it's magnificent. You want to go back to the days of trading ? Is zerofossilfuel going to start mining to his own metals and extracting his own crude oil to make his own car ?Should he manufacture his own clothes ? Plastic ? Appliances?
@didscodan And at that , he still has to buy fertilizers , water , then pick up the crops , then that garden is tiny , and if he wants meat he is gonna have to go buy some, how much can he plant on here ? how many varieties ? ect.... I can GUARANTEE you zerofossilfuels is still gonna go to the store for the vast majority of his food once the garden is fruitful. However , seems nice as a project , but to call it a freedom garden is completely ludicrous.
@didscodan on a last note, just think about the work needed to make simple bread , you would have to plant wheat , wait untill it grows , harvest it, mill it , now you have your flour , then you have to get the flour , add the water, yeast , salt ect.., wait for it to rise, bake, let cool , and then , wow , you have a loaf of bread.Or , you can go to your grocery and buy one for a couple of dollars, which of this is the saner thing to do?And if you want some milk for the bread? LOL
@demoniclordwizard Maybe that you want to do some research, check out Mr. Mike Reynolds, he already proved that people can be less dependent from fossil fuels. It's not only a path to freedom on a personal level, but also for mankind. It IS possible to live sustainable, and it IS a great joy to grow your own food. It is not work, it IS a clever use from your land and your brain. And what is wrong with having a good time? Zero doesn't look like he's suffering, he seems to have FUN !!! :-))

@shubus surprisingly about 6 hrs/day of direct light. It's one of the few areas of the lawn where we did not have a moss problem.
