Our economy is absolutely doomed to stagnancy unless we reassess the tax code. If we keep treating the wealthiest members of society like aristocrats, allowing them to siphon away as much personal wealth to keep for themselves, doing work which we've ceased to properly value, we're screwed. For the richest people in this country to make as much as they do just because they can isn't an economically viable system. Supply side economics eventually crash, we need DEMAND side economics now.
It's really just a matter of changing tax rates, and if they could just raise the upper tier rates to 40%, or even 39.5%, and keep the middle class rates similar to where they are, get rid of certain unnecessary corporate subsidies, chip away at the defense budget, and not reallocate for the time being, but rather use it to pay down the debt... Basically the idea is just to stop giving bribes to people to create jobs, and instead give them incentive. It doesn't have to be radical.

To pay for WW1 costs, the max tax rate was raised to 77%
To pay for WW2 costs, the max tax rate was raised to 95%
To pay for VietNam War costs, the max tax rate was raised to 77%
