The Allies won the war. Without the collaboration of all the nations that contributed with arms, soldiers, etc., it would have been a lot harder to win WWII.
I would like to say that every Nation in Europa that fought against hitler had done their part and i dont know too much about what other countries did to stop Hitler, but i know that my country stopped Hitler from creating Nukes.

@russhattuk That is such an ignorant comment. Stalin signed a non agression pact with Hitler. He also made a speech saying that the USSR would not go to war with Germany. Russia also made no real effort to battle Japan until August 9th 1945. The only reason they did that was because Japan was next door. It was not a 'Russian Germany' war. If anything it was a France/England vs Germany war, the only 3 countries in it from the start. Russia wouldn't have gotten involved if Hitler hadn't invaded.

Russia had no intention of getting involved until Germany invaded. 750,000 Soviets were killed, captured, or wounded at Stalingrad. The Soviet authorities executed approximately 13,500 Soviet soldiers during the battle, equivalent to almost two rifle divisions. Eventually Soviet power pulled through, but if it wasn't for it's own arrogance (Hitler wouldn't dare invade) They wouldn't have lost THAT MANY.

Hitler would of taken the U.S.S.R if he hadn't been so arrogant and hadn't made such stupid decisions. If he would of prepared his troops for the brutal Russian winter and attacked Moscow when he had the perfect opportunity, the U.S.S.R would of surrendered. His failure in Operation Barbarossa is what cost him the war.

One huge mistake was not taking advantage of the goodwill the Ukrainians and for that matter many other sects offered initially as they welcomed the Germans as liberators from Stalin's cruelty and oppression. But, the "Master Race" theory came into play and the initial goodwill turned to resistance. Erich Koch governed the Ukraine with a heavy and murderous hand.
It's hard to believe that many Americans still believe US entry into the war caused the defeat of Nazi Germany. While it helped end the war quicker, the die was cast in June 1941, Operation Barbarossa.
@gigie555 What difference do you think it might have made had Barbarossa began 1 May 1941 as originally planned? Pretty conclusive they would have taken Moscow, a tremendous propaganda coup but wonder how much impact it might have had on the eventuality. And, if the US had been fighting a one front war against only Japan or only Germany, what difference would that have made. Naturally one may only speculate but it makes for some interesting conjecture.

WWII in a nutshell - Germans had the strongest army in the world and could have taken out all of europe. But then for some reason Hitler decided to take on Stalin who had way to many men for Hitlers small highly trained army. The war lasted so long because the germans knew how to fight, but didnt have enough troops. Russia just came in with a huge army losing millions to a few million german troops. While it is obvious that the USSR played a large role, the United States defeated the Empire of Japan on its own, and could have done the same with Nazi Germany. By the end of the war, the USSR wanted the spoils. They wanted communist governments across the globe, primarily through the arbitrary use of force.

Assisted Chinese, British and Commonwealth forces in the China/India/Burma theater, contributed much to the North African campaign, fought with our Allies into Italy and invaded occupied France for the push into Germany. U.S. Navy warships were doing Atlantic escort duty EVEN BEFORE the U.S. entered the war. The USSR just had one front to deal with. The U.S. was everywhere.

@tryithere Stalin's Great Terror ended in 1938, one year before the war started. He didn't commit any mass executions after the war, using the victory as a form of communist propganda. He totally ignored that due to his own stupidity, more people were lost in Stalingrad than any other battle of WW2. But anyway, Stalin's genocide occured before the war. He did continue killing after the war (1,460,676 in camps in 1945 to 2,468,524 in 1953) but again, most occured before the war

The USA aided Russia in the war my guess because Roosevelt knew we would be far better off with Russia absorbing the majority of the casualties. The USA industrial capacity assured defeat to any enemy however it was Russia that did the majority of the fighting.

That's why is called WORLD WAR bro.. USA was more interested in kicking Japan's butt. That's why they started the pacific campaign.. Peleliu, Osaka, etc.
Hitler made two big mistakes: (1) Not to defeat Britain before turning to Russia. That left a gigantic enemy aircraft carrier twenty miles from his western shore. If he'd put the resources into Operation Sealion that he put into Operation Barbarossa the UK would have been overrun. (2) When Japan attacked Hawaii he declared war on the USA. He should have left the USA to fight Japan only. Then US resources would have been denied to Europe and Africa.
At best Sealion would have been a tremendous gamble with british naval superiority and germany unable to secure total air superiority. It would have pushed back preparation for the Russion campaign by certainly more then 6 months - and the ultimate goal of the war for Hitler was expanding Germany into Bellorussia and the south western regions of the USSR -
The element of surprise that Germany exploited in the opening months of the campaign can be attributed to the fact the Stalin shared your view that Germany should not attack Russia prior to finishing the conflict with Britian.

so the benefit was being able to unleash the U-Boats before the US was prepared to defend the atlantic convoys and the hope that the declaration would persuade the Japanese to reciprocate with a declaration of war against Russia - still a somewhat questionable move i'll grant you but in December of '41 it is easy to see why he would have hoped a Japanese declaration of war could be a difference maker with the panzers at the gates of Moscow

The Allies won the war. Without the collaboration of all the nations that contributed with arms, soldiers, etc., it would have been a lot harder to win WWII.

@russhattuk That is such an ignorant comment. Stalin signed a non agression pact with Hitler. He also made a speech saying that the USSR would not go to war with Germany. Russia also made no real effort to battle Japan until August 9th 1945. The only reason they did that was because Japan was next door. It was not a 'Russian Germany' war. If anything it was a France/England vs Germany war, the only 3 countries in it from the start. Russia wouldn't have gotten involved if Hitler hadn't invaded.

Russia had no intention of getting involved until Germany invaded. 750,000 Soviets were killed, captured, or wounded at Stalingrad. The Soviet authorities executed approximately 13,500 Soviet soldiers during the battle, equivalent to almost two rifle divisions. Eventually Soviet power pulled through, but if it wasn't for it's own arrogance (Hitler wouldn't dare invade) They wouldn't have lost THAT MANY.

One huge mistake was not taking advantage of the goodwill the Ukrainians and for that matter many other sects offered initially as they welcomed the Germans as liberators from Stalin's cruelty and oppression. But, the "Master Race" theory came into play and the initial goodwill turned to resistance. Erich Koch governed the Ukraine with a heavy and murderous hand.

It's hard to believe that many Americans still believe US entry into the war caused the defeat of Nazi Germany. While it helped end the war quicker, the die was cast in June 1941, Operation Barbarossa.

@gigie555 What difference do you think it might have made had Barbarossa began 1 May 1941 as originally planned? Pretty conclusive they would have taken Moscow, a tremendous propaganda coup but wonder how much impact it might have had on the eventuality. And, if the US had been fighting a one front war against only Japan or only Germany, what difference would that have made. Naturally one may only speculate but it makes for some interesting conjecture.

WWII in a nutshell - Germans had the strongest army in the world and could have taken out all of europe. But then for some reason Hitler decided to take on Stalin who had way to many men for Hitlers small highly trained army. The war lasted so long because the germans knew how to fight, but didnt have enough troops. Russia just came in with a huge army losing millions to a few million german troops. U.S.A fought in the war when it was half over because their could decide which side to fight for

The Red Soldier was the true victor and in some ways a true victim in terms of what was done with sheer human power when the Russian army had not the equipment to properly equip them. 25 million Soviets died in the process of tearing down the third Reich. You can thank Joe McCarthy and those like him that Americans forget that.

While it is obvious that the USSR played a large role, the United States defeated the Empire of Japan on its own, and could have done the same with Nazi Germany. By the end of the war, the USSR wanted the spoils. They wanted communist governments across the globe, primarily through the arbitrary use of force.

The United States basically funded the Soviet Unions war against Germany, we sent them MASS munitions, mgs, jeeps, rifles, rations, howitzers, bombs, etc..you name it we sent it to the Soviets. Assisted Chinese, British and Commonwealth forces in the China/India/Burma theater, contributed much to the North African campaign, fought with our Allies into Italy and invaded occupied France for the push into Germany. U.S. Navy warships were doing Atlantic escort duty EVEN BEFORE the U.S. entered the war. The USSR just had one front to deal with. The U.S. was everywhere.

@tryithere Stalin's Great Terror ended in 1938, one year before the war started. He didn't commit any mass executions after the war, using the victory as a form of communist propganda. He totally ignored that due to his own stupidity, more people were lost in Stalingrad than any other battle of WW2. But anyway, Stalin's genocide occured before the war. He did continue killing after the war (1,460,676 in camps in 1945 to 2,468,524 in 1953) but again, most occured before the war

The USA aided Russia in the war my guess because Roosevelt knew we would be far better off with Russia absorbing the majority of the casualties. The USA industrial capacity assured defeat to any enemy however it was Russia that did the majority of the fighting.

And Russia recover it's territory and get to Germany first. But if you look in 1941 Germany were kicking ass in Stalingrad my friend... So, everyone did they part. That's why is called WORLD WAR bro.. USA was more interested in kicking Japan's butt. That's why they started the pacific campaign.. Peleliu, Osaka, etc.

Hitler made two big mistakes: (1) Not to defeat Britain before turning to Russia. That left a gigantic enemy aircraft carrier twenty miles from his western shore. If he'd put the resources into Operation Sealion that he put into Operation Barbarossa the UK would have been overrun. (2) When Japan attacked Hawaii he declared war on the USA. He should have left the USA to fight Japan only. Then US resources would have been denied to Europe and Africa.

At best Sealion would have been a tremendous gamble with british naval superiority and germany unable to secure total air superiority. It would have pushed back preparation for the Russion campaign by certainly more then 6 months - and the ultimate goal of the war for Hitler was expanding Germany into Bellorussia and the south western regions of the USSR -

And on point (2) i think the problem with this is that Hitler understood, correctly, that Roosevelt very much wanted to bring the US in war against Germany and I think the assumption was that the US would eventually declare war on Germany at the time of our convenience - like after we had forces in place to invade North Africa and our bombers t'd up in England ready to start bombing straight away -

so the benefit was being able to unleash the U-Boats before the US was prepared to defend the atlantic convoys and the hope that the declaration would persuade the Japanese to reciprocate with a declaration of war against Russia - still a somewhat questionable move i'll grant you but in December of '41 it is easy to see why he would have hoped a Japanese declaration of war could be a difference maker with the panzers at the gates of Moscow
