I can't believe I've been flying on WN (SWA to the rst of you) for the better part of 25 years. It seems like only yesterday I was getting on my first Southwest B732 in Vegas.

I also remember when Southwest was first starting-up. All the nay-sayers said that Herb was crazy, and the company wouldn't make money. Well, not only are they making money, they turned a profit while others were folding or going under.

Land concourse A, had to run to concourse c, last gate. Staff closing door and stopped to let me on. Then wait.....

Continuing... I never knew how much I liked SW until I had to fly another company. Client booked flt w/NW to Jacksonville using Orbits-problematic to start. Boarded in KC. Problem with a brake, unboard. Waited 8 hrs for part to fly and install. Board again. Guy watching install said team couldn't get tire off. Then when they put it back on, it was on wrong. Let plane down with hydraulic jack, plane nose fell. Jacked it up again; got tire on right; plane nose fell again. Jack slipped out.....

I LOVE SW. I don't fly a lot, very little actually, and then it's always to the Texas or Florida areas. I have never had to experience waiting on a SW flt, although I'm sure there have been a few--no one can control everything little thing, like weather. Going to Jacksonville has a stop in Tampa, but there is plenty of time to get to the next gate; no worries. I love the new leather seats and collect pictures of the cool graphics painted on the exteriors (I'm a graphic designer).

1) Fuel hedging could be their biggest single strategy.

2) Short-haul flights and no hubs, same aircrafts and therefore lower maintenance costs as they keep low invenory of spare parts, real customer service focus, quick gate turnarounds,

3) They focus mainly on "secundary airports" such as HOU instead of IAH, MDW instead of ORD

This is a very wonderful video. I have flown Southwest more than any other airline (the others come pretty close, though). I haven't ridden in the recent "recession", but my experiences have always been good. I have seen all of the special paint jobs except for Nevada One and Slam Dunk One. Though Southwest comes to my airport (PDX in Portland, Oregon) multiple times a day, I love seeing the special paint jobs more than anything. Again I say that this is a beautiful collection of pictures. *****

Out of all the airlnes that went out of business back in the 70's and 80's, Southwest should have been one of them. This airline is destroying the entire airline industry. Sure they offer cheap tickets NOW, but wait and see when this airline forces several others out of bussiness and there are only a handfull of other airlines remaining. SWA not only kills other airlines, they also kill jobs.

Last time I checked, Southwest Airlines employed over 33,000 people across the US. Sounds like they create jobs to me. And wasn't it Southwest Airlines that infused ATA with about $150 million in cash so they could stay in business? And what about Morris Air back in 1993 which was purchased by SWA. Those employees weren't laid off, they were all given jobs at SWA, and many of them still work there today.

Be careful what you wish for. If SWA shut down ticket prices would skyrocket, overnight.
