I'm not sure if anyone said it yet, but Bruce definitely borrowed that intro from the opening line to Jay & The Americans 60's hit "Come a Little Bit Closer" - very cool.
I imagine all the paparazzi in the front row like 'so who is this Bruce guy and what can his band do?' and then seeing this performance and being like 'oh... .... they're fantastic, i'm going to go home and eat my sock now.'

To me, Roy Bittan is just the pinnacle of the pianist that I want to be. Bought the cd of this the other day and his piano was just about the only thing coming through the right earphone from my iPod. I ain't complaining. Haha
You can't have a list without Born to Run not being #1. You could make a list of your favorite ones, but not the best ones. Born to Run is a top 5 Rock and Roll album of all time, 7 out of the 8 tracks are "legendary" tracks that can alone put an artist in the hall of fame.
Anyway, I think Greetings was a better album than the shuffle overall, but Rosalita is one of the best songs Bruce has ever made, and that's something considering the volume of work he's put out.
what happened was capitol records did alot of advertising over in the u.k. this was his first concert there. and alot of people over there said Bruce was alot of hype. before the concert. well why i am proud is he blew their doors off. and they later added another concert a little later in the tour. this stuff gives me chills! my main man!
The campaign superimposed Bruce leaning on Bob Dylan's shoulder with the caption 'Is this the future of rock'n'roll' (or was that the NME cover?)...either way, there was a degree of cynicism, and I, for one, went to the Odeon quite prepared to be unimpressed. Some hours later I left convinced I'd seen one of the greatest gigs ever, and I have never had any reason to change my mind. Simply awesome.
Here's the scary part - I've only seen him once. Chicago, United Center, 9/20/2009. This was the last song he played, after "Dancing in the Dark". It really didn't sound that much different. Slower, sure, and the Big Man's hurting right now, so he isn't as potent - but it really was hitting home. Not too far from this, in 1975...
Don' t knock the way he plays this today. Very few people on this planet do things the same way at 60 as they did at 26 and frankly it would probably just look sad if they did. He rocked then and he rocks now!!!
I love Max, christ he wore sunglasses through the entire indoor concert, awesome. Btw Glammer you're videos inspired me to go and buy the recording of the concert, its amazing and was worth the money, can't recommend it enough.
"well etllem ths is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance-because the RECORD COMPANY rosie jus gave me a BIG ADVANCE" that is by far one of the coolest lyrics that was ever written 4sure
There's a video where bruce reflectively says that he barely recognises his body language and dress sense in this video! I like this era of Bruce the best though, he just seems so "free"!
i was saying no, i dont think bruce was 'high' in this performance. but he did say on looking back, he didn't recognise stuff he did, or the way he dressed - I'm looking for the interview where he said it - it's a European interview. It's gotta be somewhere...
and dont call me stupid because i know that vini only played on the first two albums and boom carter played on the song born to run then quit...too bad he would have been good...but if he was going for the whole mafia type appeal that is totally apparent in this video then weinberg was the go to guy...but vini was the beat that packed the heat dude
still...is the backup singers horn section and all the other extra crap necessary? b/c i am pretty sure tenth avenue freeze out sound its best off this album (live that is) same with rosalita and born to run and jungleland...it just became really bloated live...anybody agree...no...then i am crazy and i will just shut it
back when it was a band on the stage not a circus...way too many ppl up there today...they should do a tour of just this lineup...minus danny (r.i.p.) and call me crazy but max slows them down a bit so maybe let max go and do his conan thing and pick up a drummer who captures the vini maddog lopez spirit im sorry everything from the first three albums just seems so much more...bruce before everything else came out...maybe the last thing i feel he did that is close to those is The River...idk?
I TOTALLY AGREE! I was a Springsteen fan when it wasn't cool. The last "REAL" album (yes album, not a CD) was the River. The Young, the innocent, and the E-Street Shuffle - one of the best. Bruce became popular when "Dancing n the Dark" came out. I still never had a ticket to see him but all the little teenage girls went wild. I appreciate you comments!!!!!!!!!!!!
