I'm only 17 years old and after seeing this I feel like I'm 70. It feels like my blood has turned to ice and my body has turned to stone. I just can't understand how people could treat other people so horribley. Do the rest of you feel like you've aged 50 years?
still alot of mistreatment in these places, but its gotten alot better, my problem is, do i have a mental illness, or is it a sensativity to the supernatural realm, im not saying all cases are like mine, but i get the feeling i have an ability to the spirit world, and doctors look at me like i have schizophrenia, it makes me angry, but im glad things are better now a days, but it still has alot of abuse going on
The conservative governments have never done anything for the benefit of the citizens.Everything the conservatives have ever changed or introduced was solely done for the benefit of those in government,cutting costs,selling off every single thing they could,and some things they couldn't.The cons would have destroyed the NHS (well the have)long ago if they could get away with it.I want to know what they did with the billions they "saved" and raised by closing/selling everything,we haven't seen it
my ancestor changed his major/job/post from this to being a wonderful ob-gyn. he did not think much could be done for them in those days.....But sad today, a lot of homeless until the recent economic crisis were let out of sanctuaries and on to the street. never enough done for that group of ill, even 100 years later.
Any public services whether thats police force, nursing homes, politics, schools, justice system, psychiatric hospitals, etc etc should employ only people of higher than normal moral character - lol Ya, I know none of the jobs would be filled then. Sad eh? but morality and common sense would go far in improving our society!
Its so funny how Americans and British use different words for the same thing....I never understood that "mad" in British English meant crazy until I was like 12! In the US "mad" ONLY means angry. So when I was little and watched "alice in wonderland" I always wondered what the Mad Hatter what so angry about?? And I didn't understand.....it wasn't until I was older and I was ooooh, it should be the CRAZY hatter because he isn't MAD he is CRAZY or NUTS. too funny!

@teufelstaub yes they did.....also for myself not eating wheat has helped everything related to my gut which can put you in a bad mood researching the history of this gluten free diet...in past centuries a wheat free diet helped prevent seizures. omega 3-6-9's and gluten free diet, who knew.

I have taken lithium for 20 yrs.It is an effective drug.If it weren't for it and the other meds i take,i would probably be bat-shit crazy.So even though treatment can be a drag,i.e.taking meds,having Drs.and therapy appts and so on.I know,it could be worse,much worse.Sometimes,i think it would be nice to have a place to live in (as was originally intended) for the mentally ill,a kind of calm retreat in the country where one could be treated with dignity and love,to work and be productive.
all I have to say is thank you AngleEyes for posting this up,when ever this was on I totally missed it...but it is interesting and relevant ...look back to old mistakes and make sure they do not happen again.
Okay to take away the asylums IF care is made available for the mentally ill - ALL people in need of mental health treatment. In the USA, such is not the case. Sure, the institutions have been closed, but our streets are full of homeless mentally ill, untreated mental illness, lack of access to treatment (especially for those who are not wealthy). Prisons are now the place for many hopelessly mentally ill. The USA's health care, most especially mental health care, is an unforgivable mess.
@SisterRags thats not true us offers lots of different kinds of free health care medic-aide and other counciling programs to help homeless off the street. There is one by my neighborhood where they work and provide medical and prescription aid for homeless who are willing to help themselves get off drugs. I work at a gas station and honestly most of them are severe alcoholics that arent willing to stop drinking.
@SisterRags Dont give into the stereotype that America doesnt provide healthcare because there are tons of free hospitals that run off of the donations of people. do you know this? If you didnt then maybe you need to start caring a little more and inform yourself on the steps you need to take to play an active role on helping society.People talk all this crap about America but there are SO many people from other countries here. And so many of us go out of our way to help

We have more sick then anyone else.We have more people with mental disabilities such as down syndrome.In some standards we even fall behind some third world countries such as wealth disparity.

Also studies show that when you get something like Cancer it shows when you have more money you are more likely to survive because our shitty healthcare. We also have the highest cancer victims in this country. Why should i leave because i think there is problems that need to be addressed and fixed.

We did that because we weren't goign to let them tax us on our money because that creates debt. If you give a country 5 dollars then ask for that with interest and they can't pay the interest because they only have 5 dollars in the economy then it make debt.
