The things is that most of these usages were after the event when either it wouldn't make any difference or it was clear the driver already knew you were there but didn't care. I know it's very tempting - I do it myself - but it isn't really appropriate use of a horn, and I certainly wouldn't consider them "times when I have needed to use it".
Whether it's appropriate to let people know they've done something wrong is another matter, of course. Perhaps it is.
@MrGrumpycyclist Well with close passes, it is difficult to tell when they are going to happen (when concentrating on the road ahead). I havent been using it as much though. Although all of these incidents are from January so far.
