@realdocloco Dude!!!! That's it my tue doesn't glow when I use it and i shook it all it jingled! Thanks allot men you saved me a whole bunch of anger and pain lol.
@foreverjimmy The HT-Dual pedal is basically the analog circuit built into this amp. But I wouldn't say you're "wasting money" by getting this amp. I'd rather say, if you bought the HT-5 you could sell your HT-Dual and current amp you have, and sort of "save money" overall. :)
you had me at Walk Idiot Walk! Doc you have become one of my favorite amp demo guys. Seems like everytime I get the hots for a new amp, I search YT and there you are. And unlike the other gear places that are mainly making a sales pitch, you just play the stuff with multiple guitars and settings, so that the rest of us can realy get a feel for the capabilities of the amps.
great demo when your out shopping for an amp like this. This not a criticism just a question... why did you go to all the trouble of micing up the amp when it has a DI out?
Sounds good for a cheap amp like this! I'm thinking of buying one of those for playing some oldschool stuff. Wonder if it plays really loud with a V30 4x12 cab?
Got my sweet ENGL amp for metal, but I need one more amp for oldschool stuff.
Which is the best sounding and most versatile low wattage amp you have?I see you have the vox ac4tv,marshall class 5,and blackstar ht-5.Which is the best for classic rock/blues tone.I am in the market for one of these.
What do you mean it's not a tube amp? It's powered by "1xECC83 and 1x12BH7 valves" per the specs on the Blackstar website. Are you saying it has a solid state rectifier? Many tube amps do, so I still think that qualifies as a "tube amp" even if so.
It has tubes, and it sounds great. However, it also has op amps and stuff that are used in SS amps. On the site it even says its there HT dual pedal in a head.
I've talked to a guy who has talked to an engineer from the company via email; the distortion is all tube based, but the signal is amplified to 5 watt level with SS electronics. Don't get hung up on the semantics; the solid state stuff makes this amp more versatile, not less.
no I don got this, I got a peavey windsor , and not cuz its cheap , but cuz I like the tone in that music I play . but how can you say that this is a solidtate if it got tubes in the power side if the amp ?
ok your obviously a child so even if I did try and explain it would be lost on you. so you go ahead and believe this is a pure "tube" amp all you like.
I agree that the windsor is a great amp though. I dont have anything against solid state amps. What I do have a problem with is blackstar stating this as a pure tube amp when it has just as many solid state components as your windsor.
Also i got a noob question. If i give a small amp a big speaker cabinet it will sound louder than it would if i gave it a small speaker cabinet right?
sorry to disapoint you, no. a 50 watt head only has 50 watts power output. if you couple it to a 350 cab, it'll still be putting out 50 watts, and not using 300 watts. if it works at all... if you want a good amount of volume you need a big head and cab or a combo. but im sure this would do for practise.
actually, the more speakers you connect (at the correct ohm load), the more acoustic output you get. i tried this head into a marshall 4x12" 1960A cabinet in GC and they freaked out on how loud it is.
I was just trying to point out that, as a rule of thumb, speaker loudness corresponds to output capacity because wattage rating is directly related to speaker cone stiffness.
The sensitivity is of course a more accurate measure, but if you don't have that measurement, its safe to say a 75 watt speaker is louder than a 15 watt of the same size.
It depends on speakers; generally the higher the wattage rating, generally the higher the output for what is put in. For example, a vintage 30 will be louder than a celestion greenback.
A 4x12 will also sound a lot larger and less boxy than a 1x12, but also sometimes flabby if you don't really push it. So for an amp of this size, a 1x12 or 2x12 is probably better if you're playing at low volumes.
Generally, But not always. You really determine the loudness of a speaker by the decibel rating. A Greenback will be rated at 25 watts and 97 or 96 db's. But a 30 watt "greenback", the g12h30 which is 30 watts is 100 db's just like the V30.
So it sometimes is, but not always, don't use watts to determine how loud a speaker is... Use decibals,
hey i just got my ht-5, lovin it. do you ever boost it with a ts9 or something. looking for all out metal. also what are your acdc/marshall esque settings. any info please.
These amps are different than most. They use a really odd power tube called a 12BH7. I think that's the secret to how they sound so good. It's a tube usually used in TV sets and not meant for guitar amps...that means it can really be punished at low volumes more than standard guitar amp tubes.
Awesome playing, great amp! I used to have a Tiny Terror (which was kind of a 1 trick pony) but I'm looking for a new low wattage amp and I think this is it. I've been comparing all the low wattage heads and I think this is by far the best sounding of the bunch. BTW you're playing style has a really nice touch, most people on youtube like the shredders who think they're sweet are just sloppy as hell. You did an awesome job showing the versatility of this amp.

There is a $400. price difference but I would like to see a comparison between the HT-5 and the Marshall Haze15. At least the HT-5 has an effect loop and EL-34 tubes.
I bought the Haze mid stack and sent it back. It was muddy. It also didn't have a good crunch for me. Too smooth. It was loud as my JSX head, so it is definately not a bedroom/practice amp. I demoed the Blackstar this last weekend and have ordered one. The blackstar could get crunchy as hell. For me, it is better than the Haze for what I need.

I wouldnt comment on the JCM900 as its probably my most hated amp of all time. I think can think far worse things to say about it than modeled.
I was going to buy the HT-5 and played it a few times but something about it was bugging me, It just didnt sound like a pure tube amp. Which I found out it wasnt. So I got a tiny terror. Which im also kind of not really happy with. So all in all, Rubbish. Good playing though. :)

Great job, I just ordered the half stack for 399 from Musicians Friend, can't wait till it gets here. I've been looking for a good bedroom rig and this one sounds outstanding. Blackstar has out done the competition and you got some wicked chops!
thanks for posting man - nice to hear how versatile it is. what a great tone! Gotta get one - been using line 6 podfarm for recording but although it's great and very versatile, it's hard to get 'that' sound and some bottom end - nice playing - thanks again!
It's a rather rare Fender Telecaster HMT (made in japan, 1990), thinline, with a floyd and a DiMarzio HB at the bridge. It's been my stage guitar for years, light and very versatile.
Don't forget it's supposed to be a 5W home/studio amp. It is loud for 5W but it is still 5W. Maybe with high-sensitivity speakers and a quiet band/drummer you'll be able to make some small gigs but even then you'll lack headroom of course (for clean tones with a band 15 to 20W is a minimum, and 30 is better).
You said that the configurations used on 2 of the clips were taken from the HT Dual booklet. I would like to know which clips belongs to which configuration.
I know you have the image of the amp before every clip, but it´s a bit hard for me to tell which is which

I was just trying to point out that, as a rule of thumb, speaker loudness corresponds to output capacity because wattage rating is directly related to speaker cone stiffness.

If it sounds good it sounds.

How much would one of those cabs cost (ballpark figure) ?
humbuckersNcoke 2 years ago
Great job, I just ordered the half stack for 399 from Musicians Friend, can't wait till it gets here. I've been looking for a good bedroom rig and this one sounds outstanding. Blackstar has out done the competition and you got some wicked chops!

As written in the infos:
"The speaker is a Celestion Vintage 30, in a Marshall 1933 box. I used a Shure SM57 for close miking and a T-Bone RB500 for room ambiance." ;-)
realdocloco 2 years ago
Guess it would be asking a bit much to plug into that sound.

thanks for posting man - nice to hear how versatile it is. what a great tone!

It's been my stage guitar for years, light and very versatile.
realdocloco 3 years ago
Hi man! Which model of Marshall's box is it? I can't find Marshall 1933. There is only 1922, 1926 or 1936. Thanks!
konik112 3 years ago
Marshall 1933 are old JCM800-era box - discontinued since the late eighties.

Do you think the head matched with a 2x12 cab would be loud enough for giggin' if miked?
BluesyMatt 3 years ago
i think practically any amp is loud enough for gigging if miced

How big is it? measurements please?
victor8306 3 years ago
i have a question: is this head loud enough for a band?
sosweet666 3 years ago
Don't forget it's supposed to be a 5W home/studio amp. It is loud for 5W but it is still 5W. Maybe with high-sensitivity speakers and a quiet band/drummer you'll be able to make some small gigs but even then you'll lack headroom of course (for clean tones with a band 15 to 20W is a minimum, and 30 is better).
realdocloco 3 years ago
thank you for your help!
you are awesome!
sosweet666 3 years ago
you nailed the vintage marshall tone here, sounds great.
briceX 3 years ago
Awesome sounding amp. Thanks for posting this video. Now I want one:)
weldfish 3 years ago
how would a cab like this cost?
dumbass256 3 years ago
Those (Marshall 1933) are rather rare but there's a lot of good 1x12 cabs, like the Orange one for an exemple.
realdocloco 3 years ago
could you gig with this amp if it was mic'd
dumbass256 3 years ago
mic'd yes.

where were your settings on the last clip?(Train Kept a Rollin)
xXForgetxitXx 3 years ago
Hi realdocloco, nice sounds
You said that the configurations used on 2 of the clips were taken from the HT Dual booklet. I would like to know which clips belongs to which configuration.
I know you have the image of the amp before every clip, but it´s a bit hard for me to tell which is which
Thanks
