Both of these suggestions will destroy the basket, but it sounds like you're planning to replace it anyway. You might be able to hold the basket from underneath by gripping the threaded end where the downpipe attaches using multi-groove pliers, ViseGrips, a strap wrench (rubber) or chain wrench. Another method is to drill, from the top, two 1/4" holes into the sloped bottom of the basket, insert needle nose pliers and grip them with an adjustable wrench.

and what do you use if the drain is spinning with the turning of the nut, and there is nothing to grip with that drain basket wrench(they broke off at some point)?? Thats the problem im having

Spent 5 hours on this because both items turn. Went to Home Depot and Lowes to get the tool that is suppose to hold the basket but NONE OF THEM FIT! Tried those tools with a worker from Home Depot on their own basket strainers and the tool the have for it doesn't fit them either.

Aside from that the presentation is very nicely done.

The test I usually perform (after hooking up the drain) is to place the strainer basket and stopper in place, put a couple of inches of water in the sink, then lay a few paper towels on the bottom of the base cabinet. After a minute or two, remove the basket/stopper and let the water drain out of the sink. Any water spots on the paper towel will indicate a leak.
