Sparring makes the best fighter the fastest but with injuries. Forms can build incredible foundation, but many think fancy moves have some magical power.I've seen students who, after having learned some forms, could execute certain throws and other moves IF the forms were taught correctly that others weren't hardly capable of. The ability to do blocks and hits comes from thousands of attempts at making good blocks and hits. Leg work cannot be taught while sparring. The key is to do both, safely.
This pretty much sums up my experience with Tien Shan Pai and all kung fu. All bullshit forms with barely any sparring. And when we would spar it was some bullshit patty cake with kicks.
@mooki69 that's a pretty good assessment. if you don't spar, then it's bullshit. if you spar but don't make use of the stuff in your forms or drills, then it's bullshit.
the only part to be careful of, is whether it's the style or the instructor. from experience i'd say some styles are bullshit, and almost all instructors are morons.
grandmaster Wang taught this under the name of coiling dragon walking stick. it is a basic saber form converted to stick. At Willy Lin's school, we learned it as a stick form first and later on as a fundemental saber form.
very good observation - remember also that Master Brown had class mates as when he was trainig so there are schools associated with Tien Shen Pai in Ohio and other locales
ah shaolin fist. my favorite. I'm a student of the Jing Ying Institute in MD, i'm sure we've been in tournament with your school. We also practice Tien Shan Pai. Seems like most of your forms are the same as ours ^.^ only we dont wear traditional uniforms like those for training ^.^ keep it up!
I try to be nice when repying to videos but.. Chu Chi Chuan, Chong Chi Chuan, broadsword many, many errors.. Stances on all not good... Pa Chi Chuan was real bad......
Just awesome. Looks like good classes, and great teachers. The kids look better than a lot of adults I have seen on youtube. Nice to see traditional still alive. Also terrific work mixing this. That sword slowdown part was sweet. Good job NSA
Nice vid

Thats weird... the broad sword I saw the younger kids doing is the form I am learning right now except in my class we learn in with a short staff

full circle, northern shaolin all of their masters were trained by Grandmaster Dennis Brown , so that is why the forms look so similar...
