Russia only produces products that are not labor intensive like gas and lumber because Russia has a serious population problem. Russia has only 140 million people and the population is on the decline. We have 300 million and our population is on the rise. We militarized space, we control all the oceans of the world and oh yes we have 100 years of natural gas.

@urteilssicher I would suggest that you read a book called, "The Next 100 Years" by George Friedman and in that book you will see what I am talking about. As far as space is concerned we are the ones who used GPS technology and other space technology in actual combat. Notice that predator drones are controlled by Americans stationed in Arizona while they target terrorists on the other side of the globe. We have the only Navy that spans the globe. Russia begs us for technology even as I write.

I'm retired and I still earn sixty thousand dollars a year. All of my children went to college and two have master degrees. They are educators and computer programmers. What is made up about them? It is a fact that the US has the lowest public education standards, worst crime rate, worst health care, etc in the whole OECD.
The US is ranked 13th in Quality of Life in 2005, which means now it would be way lower with the economy ruined. It has zero cities in the top 30 livable.
And I hate to break the news but GDP is completely irrelevant.
Unlike most Western nations, US is defined by inequality.

The suicide rate was one of the lowest with Canada being higher.
