I heard this in a Borders bookstore while just browsing music. You have a Unique look and even though at the time I pretty much only listened to Ambient, World or older music,I gave it a try. Wow, what a surprise. Not just the voice is awesome, but you give the music deep feeling. I've been hooked and bought every album since. Looking forward to many more and I do love your acoustic work especially. Real talent, beauty and you seem to have a great personality as well. Best wishes always. Caoimhin
i'm sure many people (musicians mainly) will agree that this rendition is so refreshing and that it strikes a chord in our very souls. you need to do a proper recording of this!
I wish this was the album version , because it's even better. You put so much heart and soul into this it makes me almost come up off my feet, and surely...... i'm chilled from head to toe.. It's hard to explain the feeling i get from this, just like it's hard to explain why so many people like this song when you didn't think it mattered at all to anyone but yourself. Good luck sweetie.
@quilinderinoangeli I totally agree with you when i listened to michelle branch i instantly thought of adele tho just for the fact that these are 2 of the most skillful artist's that I know.
Everywhere, I always thought it was about her having faith in God and love at first with a lover but then she realized she loves herself and she's never alone cause she has herself love and God. idk.
You hear Adele or Ellie Goulding sing and all the hype over them and think "Have people even LISTENED to Michelle Branch's VOICE?" - it's so weird to me that she is listened to by everyone.
@HotFuss I love Michelle Branch, but let's be honest... Adele isn't just hype. That girl is a badass singer. And comparing Adele to Branch is like comparing Thoreau to Eliot, both are amazing, but VERY different.
@Rachieex0x7 One of the modern schools of thought is that the original author's interpretation is considered but ONE valid interpretation of the work. The reader/listener also finds their own equally valid meaning.
Met MB in NC while at a BNL's show. She was playing at a small stage off to the side and as I was refilling my beer, she caught my ears and eyes. After her set, I approached her and told her she was great! Handing my ticket to her with two beers in each hand and a cigarette in between my fingers to sign it, to stop from spilling my beer on her, not paying attention to the cig in my hand and actually burned her arm! LOL, she was very, very nice and told me her album would debut later that month!
so talented. what i dont get is the part that says "it's hard to believe you might be real" the only explanation i can find for that song her dream guy is "everywhere" but he may not exist or that he might not be as great as she thinks. besides that, i love this song, reminds me of my bf.
Very cool to hear the original arrangement at the beginning there. I started playing acoustic guitar when I was around the same age as Michelle was when Everywhere came out. She was definitely part of what got me into play guitar. I know how songs change after a while, you realize something sounds better or catchier. I'd like to think a producer could arrange one of my songs into a hit song. ;)
thanks 4 the live music posts it sounds good. your voice has always been strong and your guitar skills are gettin solid. look forward 2 new album. N d@mn u are so hot!
No one can really say what she meant when she said some of her song might not make sense because we're not her. But honestly, does it matter? Let's all just enjoy the music ♥
@Rachieex0x7 I'm glad Michelle opened up about her creative process, and the song is way more interesting to me now. Not making perfect sense is what gives the song its' identity. "Everywhere" is somewhat of a puzzle and the certain lines contradict eachother, much like a teenager. "I try to wash the pain away from me," contradicts, "everything I know that makes me believe I'm not alone." Now that I know the whimsical tone even baffles the writer a little, I can't help but like it more.
@focusandcreate They don't contradict each other. He's everything that makes her believe she's not alone, but is never around. She says she's starting to think he might not be real, which brings on the pain she has to wash away. it makes sense.
@revanxisxkool i've heard the lyrics, thank you. i'm all set on my interpretation, so i don't need help to further formulate it. it's by a teenager who is not experienced in love, even though many teens they think they know everything yet change their mind every 5 minutes... to me this is contradictory and scatterbrained. if it isn't to you then that is your opinion, not fact and you are in no way an authoritative figure on this song so cool it on trying to tell people that they're wrong.
@SageAlexa: Point blank: the tuning is standard without any capo on any fret, and she uses the same chord progression as her first recorded single: Am, C, G for the verses and F, C, G for the chorus along with Am, C, G which turns to E, Am, D for the pre-chorus right after the second verse. I had the same problem you had looking for the right tuning. I literally just figured it out. Good luck with your guitar playing! ^_^
why it made no sense?? it made so much sense...and still do!!! i was 9 when i listened to it....and i fell in love with it...of course it took me 2 more years or so to relate to it... :/
@Rachieex0x7 I agree with you so much, you can tell the song was meaningful because you can feel what she was feeling!!! I love songs like that, like YellowCard's "Ocean Avenue"! They're so heartfelt!!!
Totally scripted, total make-up job... this "impromptu, just have some extra time in the studio" as if...) is a total marketing creation. She may have some song writing talent, but she's got to go independent before she gets past the bullshit image that her management has made her buy into.
@jebuff And your point is? Look, I hear what you're saying about "manufactured image"... WTH, look at who's "big" these days... for the most part "media creations" with questionable talent. Marketing, promo is all part of the game. But if you strip all that away from Michelle Branch, hey, she still has a solid core of talent. And give her credit - she's also smart enough to understand the commercial side of things. She seems pretty genuine and thoughtful to me.

To anyone wanting to know the chords to the cd version of everywhere:
Intro: Am C G G x2
verse 1: Am C G G Am C G G D2/F# D2/F# G Am D2/F# as follows:
Am C G G (turn it inside out so i can see) Am C G G (the part of you thats drifting over me and when i wake you're ) D2/F# D2/F# (you're never there) G (and when i sleep you're) Am D2/F# (you're everywhere)
leadin to verse 2: Am C G Gsus2 G
verse 2: Am C Gsus2 G x2 D2/F# D2/F# G Gsus2 G Am D2/F# G Gsus2 G
A strait up acoustic performance always emphasizes the emotional part of the song. I'm partial to Acoustic songs over glamorized drawn out and over produced songs. All you really need is a guitar and a voice and magic happens.
yeah..... i know this song since from the start.. since the time it came out in mTv........ this song for me is a classic... my favorite... and i like this version... man michelle is all grown up now.... it's been a while.........
@adamparkzer with the string action on some guitars and a weak capo, you may need to slant the capo to get each string resonating properly. This is especially true for acoustic guitars. Or she could have just been sloppy, that is always an option haha.
the first song by her i heard, and then when i looked up 'your everywhere to me' it came up. then noticed she wrote several other songs i knew. thank you michelle for all the hits!
there is my high school memories, thumbs up

A strait up acoustic performance always emphasizes the emotional part of the song. I'm partial to Acoustic songs over glamorized drawn out and over produced songs. All you really need is a guitar and a voice and magic happens.

@adamparkzer Many player angle their capo so it does not get in the way of their hand. Most common with the keiser brand the one she uses.

@adamparkzer Immensely! My OCD is kicking in big time!

@adamparkzer with the string action on some guitars and a weak capo, you may need to slant the capo to get each string resonating properly. This is especially true for acoustic guitars. Or she could have just been sloppy, that is always an option haha.

@adamparkzer
No. I don't think i ever play with a straight capo matter fact. just kinda throw it on

I would pay £100 just to sit and watch her play an accoustic concert, anyday! It would be mesmarizing.
