I worked for 12 years at the Japan Airlines Flight Crew Training Center in Napa, California, (now closed), and we had several young ladies enter the pilot training program. I would have no problem getting on a flight with them as PIC. They worked very hard and were very professional. I wish them the best!
Very pretty, smart, intelligent and determined. Could have had many other jobs. Doctor for example? Pilot's position fits a man only in my book. There are jobs like pilots, soldiers, police, construction workers, that fit men. There are jobs more feminine for women. Just my opinion.
@plsniper ...and my opinion of your opinion is that it is totally sexist. I am a pilot in the United States. Why do you think a woman has no place in the cockpit? I've met female pilots that could outfly plenty of men. Quit typing a fucking laundry list of jobs that you think "women can fit in". Are you trying to protect your overly-sensitive male ego...are you threatened by this woman? Pull your mule and plow to the side of the road and step up to modern times.
@hovertrain7 LOL!! Wow!! :) Everybody's entitled to their own oipinon. No, I'm not threatened by this woman. As a matther of fact, when I started flying, one of my progress check instructors was a female. She was a real cool chick and a good CFI. But I think that there is a problem with the "modern times". I remember when the war started in Iraq, children were staying home with daddy, while mommy went off to fight a war. There's nothing wrong with this picture? To me there is. Take it easy..:)
@plsniper Great...when I started flying I had more than one female CFI. (And I am a man, btw.)
"There are jobs more feminine for women." Whether you realize it or not, you're assigning a person's job based on their gender. And that makes you a redneck, whether you realize that or not. Is that what happened, your mom went off to fight while dad stayed home? There's nothing wrong with that picture, buddy. It's a little strange, sure. But your beliefs are based on narrow-minded macho B.S.
@hovertrain7 I was growing up with my mom taking care of the house, and working at an office. My father was a WW2 vet and was a red beret. You can call it sexist or what ever the F you want, but I just can not picture my dad cleaning the house while mom kicks her high heals off, puts on her combat boots and heads for the barracks. LOL, no, I just don't see that. Call it sexist, I call it NORMAL. The whole world is being turned up-side-down and you call it "modern times". Yeah, ok. Bye Ms.Rambo.
@plsniper "The whole world (your world) is being turned upside down."
This is always the lame battle cry of folks who aren't able to adjust to how the world changes. Look, I'm not claiming the whole world is changing for the better. But women being cops and pilots and men raising the kids are as far from our current state of problems as your ideology is from "modern times". Get a grip.
@hovertrain7 LOL!!! wrong, wrong, wrong. Yes, I live in a small town right now, and I LOVE IT! That does not make me a redneck. LOL I'm very far from. Believe me, very far from being a redneck. Actually I'm not even an American. I'm European. Yeah, the world is changing...bla...bla...bla... For thousands of years men were men and women were women. Now, for tha past 20-30 years it is all being mixed up. You love it, that's just fine. Have fun.
@hovertrain7 Yeah, my world, not the whole world. I'm only imagining that men were men and women were women for thousands of years, until 20 years ago it all started to change. You sound like a Mr Knowitall! I'm sure you are very satisfied with the course the world is heading in just like you're satisfied with your face/race you see in the mirror everyday. Good bye, good luck, stop pesting me.
I hope she doesn't start crying at 35,000 feet when error messages start displaying in the cockpit ;-) Good on her for reaching her goal of becoming a pilot.
The Japs are lovely, love them. But they always cry in charged situations, when the focus is on them. Olympics, many other occasions. Then it`s the "smile cry" - reassurance from others, it`s gonna be alright, etc. Smiling and crying, all at the same time. Great people.
....wtf a woman pilot. Has japan lost their fuckin mind. A woman's place is in the house, making food, taking care of kids and be ready to have sex with the husband.
precisely why a women should never be a pilot because they are emotionally unstable and under high stress situation prone to bursting in to tears becoming a useles blubbering messs just when she needs to be calm composed and rational. In the wrong moment she would cry and her first concern would be to cover her face with her hands like in this video ................
@appleglory . i am just saying what i have seen and see in this video I see and yes some women are stronger than some men physically and emotionally but very few but in general most are neither.
@appleglory You can try to deny that all you like but how many times do you see an accident/ disaster etc where a woman is crying and the man is comforting her.exactly all the time and very rare to see the other way round. this is just the way it is i dont know why people are so afraid of generalizations or stereotypes as they do not occur for no reason
@appleglory and i bet if this had been a male pilot in this clip under similar circumstance he would not have cried. and what is crying? crying is a state in which emotinns have overwhelmed a person to the point where that are no longer able to controll their composure, in other word lost control. if you are in command of a huge jet many lives you need to be able to maintain emotional control under extreemly high duress. a person in tears is not able to perform even basic tasks and useless
@appleglory for example i have seen nearly all of my female colleages cry at one point or other (and that is even in a professional environment let alone there private lives) but i have never seen a single one of my male colleages cry not once. are you saying this is just a cooincidence and that there is absolutely no difference between men and women in general . if you are then you are either very ignorant and or in denial of the facts of life.
@appleglory during my time in the army we would often do shooting practice with live ammo on firing ranges with female cadets. we were all the same age adults and under the same pressure yet i can remember three occasions where when the girls missed their targets the frustration caused them to cry yes thats all it took . none of the men cried when they missed. on two occasions a girl in tears turned towards us with a loaded rifle pointed at us because she was completely not thinking rationally.
@airvice8 on another occasion a crying female cade accidentlyt let of a bullet randomly accross us comletey out of controll face streeming with tears. so this is why women should not be in such situations by default unless proven to be as in controll as their equivelant male counterparts and not just given equal status due to unrealistic politically correct equality rulings.
@appleglory and i would put money on the fact that if a terrorist burst in to the flightdeck of this aircraft and executed the co pilot the male captain would not cry but if the captain was executed in front of her she would be in tears and an emotional mess, and of no use to the 300 passengers in her care who would be depending on her to be strong and get them through.
@TracyAndersonFoxhunt well, in that case, i'm not a real woman (LOL). I consider myself a very loving mother, a loyal friend, and a supportive sister, but it's very hard for me to break down in tears. when I get emotional, it's usually anger / frustration, but somehow, i just forge ahead until the goal is reached. I wish I could cry more, just to ease the stress...and people have accused me of not having enough 'feelings'. why should women have to be emotional?
@TracyAndersonFoxhunt oh yeah, i forgot. Maybe because i grew up watching tv shows like Combat and The Professionals (okay LOL again). but then...you know, men do cry, men have fear, and they do hesitate. (trust me, i've known it to happen). but the worst thing is that they won't admit it. because it makes them seem 'weak'. to me, it's not about women being weak. it's not about gender. IT'S VERY SIMPLE : CAN YOU DO THE JOB, OR CAN'T YOU? if you can, you're in. If you can't, don't bother
@appleglory How often do you see men in tears compared to women...............exactly and facts speak louder than words. its not cooincidence its because men and women are different accept it!!!!!
@appleglory there are definately some women out there that can fly a plane well but it is their emotional state that is the issue here not their ability to fly under normal conditions. it is this ability that would be impeeded by their emotional volitility that is the question under duress. and if women in general were as good pilots as men how come there are so many more male pilots than women. this is not a cooincidence its because men have more natural ability due to more technically minded
@airvice8 and the same goees for driving its not a cooincidence that the best racing drivers are all men how many women win formula 1? this is not a cooincidence if women were as good they would be there in equal numbers naturally. you just cant eccept the facts because it hurts. but it should not hurt because i am not saying men and women arnt equal just that we are good at different things.
@airvice8 yeah. and i really don't care to be a good cheerleader or hair-dresser or salesgirl in a bikini shop - well, wait a minute. that last one is ok... yeah, i'd work in a woman's bikini shop for free ;)
She deserves the job and you desk top jockeys stick just that! Speak when you know what you are talking about! Japan crew are great and maybe others should look in thier back yard if they can understand that
being a pilot is alredy tought but being woman and pilot here in Japan it could be more then hard in a culture where women were educated to serve the husband, she proved any woman can do it we just need to believe in our dreams. Congratutalions to her!
This is a really great news story. Thanks for posting this. Kaoru Takashima is a great pilot and I wish her all the best with ANA. I also think that she is very beautiful as well.
Although the chances are opened to everyone, the reality is that the pilot's seats are left only for those gifted persons inborn, there're some fortunes that exist beyond her hands, I believe.
Yeah! But there are a lot of drawbacks. I got through the selection and i could start the education in March.. But it costs about 170 000$ you'll get twice a year a medical exam, there is no way you get a job now (economic metldown), and you cant guarantee that you will still like the job after 40 years of flying.. so im just saying to be very careful because it could be the biggest mistake in a lifetime..
(for me the risks are too big atm, and I'm going to study International Business instead)
It is great to see more women getting rights to fly. Here in America has alot women flying. I really believe in woman rights and I know other countries has hard time getting the rights for women pilots. I hope her a best luck on her career. :)

well done, my wife was in the Air Force, women are better in high pressure situations than men but they dont get the chance to prove themselves because most men have inferiority complexes and cant get past their 1 inch penis. I am proud of this women and all others who break the boundaries, like my wife. Hoorah

If she passed, she passed and it means she can fly jetliners. Not many women find aviation that interesting and wanna pursue a career in it, so thats pretty cool. Dont be such haters.
So you're saying that the Polish are racist towards Asians? A shame isn't it! Every race or nationality is racist towards another group nowadays I guess.
Honestly the Japanese culture one of the most racist in the world. Try going in many of the disco's or restaurants in Japan if your not Japanese. You will be turned away. I know a Japanese girl, her family diss-owned her for marrying a non-Japanese.
best job ever!

I have two questions:
1) Is she paid at the same level as male First Officers? (My guess is no).
2) Will she be able to upgrade to Captain as quickly as other male First Officers at the same seniority level? (My guess is no.)

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we enjoy flying and pilot an aeroplane?
(2) What does flying and aviation mean to females?
(3) Why do girls want to fly high and become a pilot?
(4) Through flying, what have female pilots proved and demonstrated to the world? or, What kind of social value(s) have female pilots brought up?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

being a pilot is alredy tought but being woman and pilot here in Japan it could be more then hard in a culture where women were educated to serve the husband, she proved any woman can do it we just need to believe in our dreams. Congratutalions to her!

This is a really great news story. Thanks for posting this. Kaoru Takashima is a great pilot and I wish her all the best with ANA. I also think that she is very beautiful as well.

What's a great job the pilot is!

Not easy for a female to be a pilot in Japan due to their culture.
All the 24 months of hard work has finally paid off. Well Done.

Verlch - Do us all a favour and crawl back into your sexist little cave. A woman is perfectly capable of flying a plane. You're a KNOB
ozpilotgirl 2 years ago 2
She is more than welcome to fly a plane without me there sexist bigot. This used to be a free country, and I can choose to pilot anybody I please.

This woman deserves a lot of respect. Although I love Japan very much, I have say it is still very much a society dominated by the men.
I am sure she has had to fight very hard to get to where she is now. Well done!

well done, my wife was in the Air Force, women are better in high pressure situations than men but they dont get the chance to prove themselves because most men have inferiority complexes and cant get past their 1 inch penis.

Every race or nationality is racist towards another group nowadays I guess.
tigerslash12 3 years ago
Honestly the Japanese culture one of the most racist in the world. Try going in many of the disco's or restaurants in Japan if your not Japanese. You will be turned away. I know a Japanese girl, her family diss-owned her for marrying a non-Japanese.
