Do you know how many Hit Clips were ever made? I'm trying to get all of them, I have around 30 now. They all have numbers on the back, and the highest number is 122, so I know there must be more than that. I loved seeing your collection though :)
@princess9397 There are a few web sites which attempt to list the Hit Clips that were released, but the format really didn't have enough shelf life to amass a large collection of songs, especially if you consider the later "Hit Discs" to be in a separate category.
I am uploading a video right now of my collection of hitclips I have both the clips and the disc ones. check my channel in about an hour or next time you log on it should be in your subscriptions if you are subbed to me. Enjoy.
I have a Hit Clips player myself, its the boombox which dates back to 2001 and as of today it STILL works! All I have for the actual cartridges are two of them which are Breathe by Faith Hill and There You Go by Pink. I also have an add on for the system which is the FM tuner and by the way it sounds far better than the cartridges. The reception is a bit worse than normal tuners but its quite usable even where I live in a rural area.
ive actually hacked most of my hitclips to make them louder. you just open up the player and theres a tiny SM resistor between the clip connectors and the earphone, remove it and replace with a small blob of solder and the audio will be much louder.
I remember when Hit Clips came out and how I thought I was awesome because I had a Mini-Disc recorder/player. I thought was infinitely more cutting edge. Now I have an iPod. It may not be cutting edge, but at least it's a format that's still supported! XD
I'm looking forward to the video of that GE clock radio. I'm bidding on one, and I've had 2 just like it, both of which have scratchy controls. One of the ones I have has buttons that are flaky, common amongst old GE clock radios. Not sure if it's better than the Zenith Circle of Sound.
Haha i remember hit clips lol, but since they sounded like crap, and only have 1/4 of a song on them, and are in mono, I'm surprised anyone bought one.
i rember thes when i was in first grade, i was going to buy one but i red the back of it and realised that it only plays a 30 second segment of a song. if the made full length songs they would of been more popular
The original Hit Clips play a 1-minute "Micro Mix" of the songs. The later version increased the playing time to 2 minutes... but still not enough to fit most songs in their entirety.
I have the disc hitclips too maybe ill do a video on my hitclips. I do believe that we have the technology to put a full song on a chip like this but its probably very expensive to do so. I have this x-cuse box thingy and it had a full 10 minutes of audio on it in 10, 1 min audio clips. you can fit a couple of songs on a chip like that in decent quality so it is possible but not practical.
These Hit Clips are looking really funny. Today it would be possible to make something like that using SD cards. They are cheap enough now, and they have enough space to put on songs with a higher quality!
i'd like to hack those and rip the audio file thats played. oh and i've hooked these to my 300 watt stereo. lol lo-fi mono grainy sound amplified by 300 watts. the hitclips chips actually had decent bass for a chip but I dunno why they cut off the bass it doesnt take up that much room. battery life maybe. theres this hitclips boombox powered by 3AAA batteries, I have one
I don't know if the Hit Clips are available anymore, but I remember seeing them on the Tiger website in early 2004. Personally I wouldn't call them an ancestor to the iPod, even though they may have come out just before the iPod, there were other MP3 players that were much more capable than the Hit Clips products. Do I see a picture of some tupe of portable stereo on the back of the Hit Clips package?
I should've called it the "ancestor of the iPod Shuffle," as it is about the same size and weight. Yes, there were portable MP3 players on the market before the (regular) iPod, but they were all much larger and heavier than this.
Man I got a shitload of those hitclips, when I first got them I carried them everywhere. but now since i got my iPod and PSP and other mp3 playing devices I no longer use these but I will never get rid of them as i'm a collector of them. that would be awesome if you made a full video on the hit clips ill add it to my PSP if thats ok. maybe ill make a video on my hit clips b/c there isnt many videos on here of these little hit clips players except maybe the TV ads.
I do not believe Hit Clips is an ancestor of the iPod. I remember Hit Clips emerging in 2002 and it did not sell well. The cards store flash memory and the songs are only one minute.
The original Hit Clips came out in July 2000, over a year before the first iPod. You may be thinking of the later "CD" Hit Clips, which were introduced a few years later and used small discs instead of memory chips.
The bad thing about these was they only play like 60 or 30 sec worth of songs! XD

The Hit Clips gadget looks hackable--it'd be interesting to see what the final sound would be if it were jacked into a high-quality stereo...

I am aware about the original Hit Clips, but I am unaware about the CD Hit Clips.
I remember the commercials aired on Australian TV around 2001 - 2003 for a short time. After these years, they were never shown again.
