  • This statement was true when money was tied to tangible assets, i.e. gold/silver. However, with FIAT money the thesis is somewhat compromised. However, it is the correct philosophy behind money which is both a store of value and a medium of exchange.

  • Chill, dude, fear is the root of all evil.

  • They put Ayn Rand's thesis into a voicemail?? lol...

  • Hello? Money is produced by government, without government spending it, it doesn't exist. Fiat money is subject to failure, and we all use fiat money. Wars are the principal cause of its devaluation. Fiat money is given value primarily by production. Now go down the rabbit hole and see what will happen.

  • @pvisserandorra Money is not always produced by goverment - gold , silver , ivory, hides etc have been used for money for over a thousand years none of which are produced by goverment.

  • @87Wayne Yes but those are not used now, and paper money is. It has a long history of disaster, but when it is created, it has to be accepted by the government for payment of taxes or it is parochial at best. In the instance where new money is created, no one can spend it until they get it. They get it by the government spending it.

  • If I was leaving a message for Frisco I'd be very annoyed waiting for the beep...

  • El mejor personaje de Atlas Shrugged !!!!

  • I like this guys voice, except it's too mexican

  • D'Anconia, part of the tri-force: D'anconia, Danneskjold, and Galt!

  • This is why it's virtually impossible to make a movie based on an Ayn Rand novel. It's awesome prose for A NOVEL. But in a movie, a line like this sounds ridiculous.

  • Francisco d'Anconia doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he drinks Dos Equis.

  • @ariston72 Es la esencia de la excelencia, objeto de inspiración, valiente entre los valientes, es el hombre más honesto de la Mundo.... FRRRRAAAANNNCCIIISSSCCCOOOOOO D'AAN-COOOOOONNNNIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Frisco!!!

  • @mariakzv

    Hey Slug!

  • True Believers all the way

  • Francisco, will you marry me? :-)

  • Cool!

  • Cool!

  • Hi, Frisco!

  • @jsupler hi, slug.

  • ... If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Fuck her, feed her, or free her? Thanks for the moral advice, god !!

  • "our heavenly father" also instructs us on proper bondage etiquette. Doesn't make "him" right !! When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a s

  • @crutch145 NO PROBLEM...YOU'RE NOT DISAGREEING WITH ME, I DIDN'T INSPIRE THE WORDS....IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER, AS I AM, THEN YOU KNOW THAT THOSE ARE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S WORDS...I AGREE WITH YOU, MONEY DOESN'T CORRUPT, BUT AS OUR FATHER SAYS, IT IS THE *LOVE* OF IT THAT CORRUPTS. LOVE GOD AND NOT MONEY....VERY SIMPLE.

  • PART 2: WE WORK FOR MONEY AS IT IS THE COMMODITY WITH WHICH WE TRADE. IT'S NECESSARY FOR IT'S CONVENIENCE, BUT TRULY, NOT EVEN NECESSARY FOR TRADING...AS BARTERING IS ANOTHER MEANS. BARTERING, HOWEVER, IS JUST NOT SO CONVENIENT. (WINK) NOW I'M NOT A LOOTER, A PARASITE, NOR MOOCHER.... NOR AM I A THIEF. I'VE NEVER LOVED A DOLLAR SO MUCH THAT I WANTED TO STEAL IT....I'VE WORKED FOR WHAT I GOTTEN AND AM ENJOYING THE FRUITS OF MY LABOR.....BUT I LOVE GOD.

  • @SREGAN7

To love money is to know and love the fact that money making is the material shape of the best within us. Is that what you consider evil?

  • @SomeUsefulIdiot

WELL, NOT IN MY ESTIMATION....TO *UNDERSTAND* MONEY IS TO KNOW BEST THE MEASURE OF THE FRUITS OF OUR LABORS. WHAT IS EVIL ( AND THE BIBLICAL MEANING JUST MEANS "BAD") IS TO LOVE MONEY.

  • @crutch145 I KEEP GETTING AN ERROR WHEN I TRY TO REPLY

  • MONEY IS "NOT" THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.....GOD NEVER INSPIRED THAT TO BE WRITTEN.....IT IS THE "LOVE" OF MONEY THAT IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

NOW, THE REST OF D'ANCONIA'S VOICE MAIL MAKES SENSE.

  • Fantastic - Counting down the days!

  • Thank you truly for making this film. The most sincerity and gratefulness I could possibly conceive of. This story has to be told and must be known. I only hope for sure that all 3 parts come out. I can't wait for the 15th.

  • i'm sure the scene where francisco blows up all the copper mines in chile because they elected a socialist will go over super well with everyone and teach us all how bad socialism is and not be at all evocative of any real atrocities

  • "... Blood, whips and guns - or dollars. Take your choice - there is no other - and your time is running out."

Actually Miss Rand's work is much more prophetic than anyone imagined. Withdraw your sanction. Withdraw your support. Then connet with me and make your way to Galt's Gulch in June.

So I guess 'your time really IS running out'.

    G $ G

  • I think I'll wait for it to come out on DVD, If I even watch it at all.

  • For those of you who are also Watchmen fans, remember when everybody was freaked out that they'd cut parts of Rorschach's speech, because they put a chopped-up portion in the trailer? And then they had the whole version in the movie? Yeah, same basic thing. I mean, I don't see how there's any way they could include D'Anconia's full speech in the movie, but I doubt it will be as chopped down as everyone seems to fear.

  • Novels and cinema are different artistic endeavors. You can get the essence of the speech without repeating it verbatim, and there are visual devices you can use to flesh out the ideas during the speech. Rand probably knew AS whould be her last work of fiction, and was busily morphing herself into a philosophical writer and so she was (probably) furiously trying to incorporate everything she could into that one last work of fiction. JMHO, no flames needed, love the book, want to like the movie

  • wait they changed it to a voicemail instead of the speech in the party?

  • I have that entire speech typed out in word.

  • Love the cheap shot at Keith Olbermann at the end! (lol)

  • He needs anger management

  • @mrthundercrack He needs looters to quit stealing from his company and running it into the ground for their own gains.

  • My god. That is awful. Not the speech, or the book by any means........but are they seriously expecting people to use this as a voicemail?

  • @amse Of course not. It's just a fun method of advertising. I'd be shocked if it makes in into the movie, even.

  • @ShiningOmega - This is my fear, also. I HOPE BEYOND HOPE that this movie does justice to the book. And, IMHO, D'Anconia's speech at Taggert's part should be put into the movie VERBATIM.

  • @andogigi5 I hope so as well.

The money speech is not gonna happen just because of length. The speech, when spoken, is around 20 minutes. I know this because I've recorded it myself to show my friends who have no interest in reading the whole book.

Fun fact, Rand herself demanded that Roark give his speech word-for-word from her screenplay for the Fountainhead movie, and it wound up being one of the longest speeches in cinema at just six minutes. 20 just isn't happening.

  • @ShiningOmega its a three part movie though

  • @badgerattoadhall True, and the speech that this excerpt is from is from book 2, so the only way that it could make an appearance in Part 1's release is if they mess with the chronology, or break it up over all three parts.

  • @ShiningOmega it is also most "loved" speech in the book, more so even than this is john galt speeking. so they just modified it as a sort of trailer.

  • @ShiningOmega That's a good point. I went back and read it again, and you're right. It is pretty lengthy. I see places where it could be condensed without losing the author's intent. I'll hold my judgement until April 15th when the strike begins. :)

  • @amse Only after they go on strike. :)

  • On page 77 of the book, part 1. Can't wait for this movie though i wish it was in my area. I actually have some drawing ideas from it.

  • I dont think they summarized his speech very well (when you compare it to the book), but I'm excited for the movie :)

  • @ExploringReal - Agreed. But, it was only a teaser to get people to come see the movie. I think it served it's purpose. I can't WAIT for the 15th when the strike begins!!!

  • Today, money is the tool of politics. We all work harder to support that use.

  • Nice :)

  • There are only two ways to acquire something you want. Voluntarily, or involuntarily.

  • @CurtHowland As any banker or land lord can tell you, you can have legitimate claims to money which people will refuse to give you voluntarily. We use men with guns to enforce foreclosures and evictions for that reason.

  • @MrAdvancedAtheist Yes, but that's hardly something that requires government.

Enforcement of contracts is a normal function.

I would rather see ostracism than violence, just make sure your contracts include the "guys with guns" parts and we're cool.

  • (g) Its awesome.

  • can't wait :D

  • Thank you for making this movie. If we don't get it in San Antonio, I'm going to find a way to watch it all the way in Dallas. The movie looks great, and it seems like it's stayed true to Rand's message.

    You guys and gals rock!

  • @immikeurnot Right now the closest we can get is Sugar Land outside of Houston. Also hoping that it comes to San Antonio!

  • @chaosinwriting They just announced a San Antonio theater today! It's off I10 and 410 next to Dave and Buster's!!!

    I'm there!

  • Comment removed

  • @immikeurnot I just bought tickets for the opening night at Bijou! I'm thrilled that it's just a week away. Enjoy!

  • I'm convinced that that, too often misquoted Bible verse is better translated, "The conflation of money to wealth is the root of a great many evil."

  • This is going to be soooooooooooooo good. I hope it plays in Oklahoma!
