I know about Iraq. But Hussein was a big figure in Iraqi politics since the early 60s, and he was the real ruler during 68 when Baath took majority power in Iraqi politics. Yes, it is true Abdul Kareem Kassim started the path of development and improvement, but the Qomiya and Baath continued it, especially Saddam. Iraq was really booming in 1970s and interwar period (89-91). The US throws money at the other Arabs, and they follow the US like the most loyal of dogs.
